  • Choose My Adventure: Holiday? What holiday?

It's the time of year in Vanguard when all manner of Halloween hijinks are going on. With that said, I probably wouldn't have known about it at all, had I not logged into the game and saw other players in strange shapeshifted forms. Looking at the official site yielded no splashy separate news post announcing the arrival of the celebration; there was only a link to a forum thread in which a player had asked someone at SOE to flip the switch for the event and the ensuing discussion. Anyone who wasn't playing the game likely would have completely missed out on knowing an event even existed. That said, this week was its own mix of deviltry and dilemma, as well as another example of just how great this small player community is. Curious as to what happened and what I observed as a relative newcomer to the lands of Vanguard? Join me beyond the break as I wrap up this week's adventure! %Gallery-104309%

It's been awhile since we checked in with Nexon's anime-inspired Mabinogi MMORPG. The stalwart free-to-play title is gearing up for its latest "Generation" patch (the game's twelfth), an update called Return of the Hero that's packed with a good bit of new content. In addition to new quests, capture-the-flag events, and fashion shows, the update will feature bonus items for players who have already completed the previous Eleventh Generation content, as well as seasonal celebration events. These events include Halloween-themed quest lines, rare customization options, new pets, and a time-limited opportunity to befriend the Angry Pumpkin (who will then permanently accompany your character throughout the world of Erinn). Head over to the official Mabinogi website for more information. [Update]: Nexon has just released a new video for Return of the Hero. Check it out after the break.

  • Trick or treat or high-velocity death: Global Agenda takes on Halloween

In the future, nobody can hear you scream -- but that's mostly because everybody's shooting noisy pulse rifles all willy-nilly. Even though Global Agenda skews more toward sci-fi than horror, it doesn't mean that the two can't form a temporary alliance. To celebrate the holiday, Global Agenda is rolling out a specially-themed defense raid from October 27th through the 31st. Defense raids are 10-man missions that require a team to defend a point from waves of invaders. This particular Halloween raid -- available for players level 30 and above -- is notable for its quirky loot: 13 new Halloween masks are available as drops through this mission only, and any team that downs the final boss will receive an additional mask as a bonus. Unfamiliar with defense raids? Hi-Rez Studios created a quick two-minute dev blog of these special missions, which you can watch after the jump.

Blame Shawn Schuster. No, really, it's applicable this time and I'm not just pulling your leg. Many of you were wondering why we hadn't talked about the Champions Online failures this past weekend -- The "Blood Moon Blunder." Well, it was because pretty much the second we started getting reports from you guys about the client not working on Steam, or subscribing players complaining of the lag that the servers had over the weekend, Shawn turned to me, slapped the story on my desk and said, "All yours for Anti-Aliased."And I sat there, smiled, and politely responded, "Oh crap. This is going to drive them all up the wall even further than last week's article. I'll do it."So was the Champions free weekend a failure? Absolutely, but not for the reasons you may think. Come on, follow me after the break, and we'll go into yet another (and hopefully the last for a while) opinion column on Champions.

While this One Shots is a bit late for the Halloween holiday, but it's still not too late to be enjoyed! We figured it would be nice to enjoy a look back at some World of Warcraft areas that many people have deserted in their dash through Northrend. Today's One Shots comes to us from our staff columnist, Craig Withers, who snapped this in the Horde outpost in Nagrand at the tail end of last month. Craig writes: [This] is a little more mundane, and is simply a shot of one of my characters turned into mini-Diablo during the Hallow's End event. Despite looking kind of evilly cute or cutely evil, he didn't have much going for him with no emote visuals or even a jumping animation. If you've snagged some silly or fun screenshots of yourself during a recent holiday or server event, we'd love to see them! Just send those to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the game, and a quick description of what we're seeing. Your screenshots help us show off new and interesting lands here on One Shots (not to mention mean that we can quit digging through staff screenshot folders) so send yours in today! %Gallery-9798%

By now you will all be aware of the wildfires last week in San Diego, and that the Sony Online Entertainment offices were affected by them. Now that everyone is getting back on their feet, the EverQuest team are able to launch their Halloween event, "The Haunting of Norrath". Whilst it is being implemented a little late, the event has been extended and runs from October 30th to November 4th -- fans of Halloween will get to cling on to their favorite holiday for just that little bit longer. The Haunting of Norrath will feature a generous helping of Halloween quest-lines (with the event's homepage filling you in on where to get started). There will be merchants selling candy and costumes, and a number of other things to do including trick-or-treating, bone-collecting, and -- my personal favorite -- a hungry halfling event. Players are advised to seek Zigand Ribshard in the Plane of Knowledge to find out more, and be sure to visit the link below for other Haunting of Norrath details.

We already filled you in on CoX getting some Halloween fun underway, but NCsoft has now let 1Up know what their plans are for their other titles.Guild Wars players can expect the return of the infamous Mad King Thorn. This joker typically visits different areas of towns telling people what to do, rewarding those that listen and destroying those that don't. The two cities he will make appearances at are Lion's Arch and Kamadan, and you'll need to be around between October 26th and midnight October 31st to catch him.Lineage II fans will see the "Trick or Transmutation" event for their Halloween celebration. This will involve a treasure hunt for some Alchemist's Chests, to create Philosopher's Stones and unlock rewards. Some of these rewards will reportedly be unique to this event, and if you're interested in trying your hand at the hunt, the event begins October 26th.Finally, NCsoft is even infusing their unreleased MMO Tabula Rasa with Halloween madness. Those who have preordered the game will get to play a few days early, in the headstart promotion, and will be able to go on missions to earn special Halloween masks. If you want to find out about the celebrations already going on in CoX check out our previous coverage, and a link to 1Up's article is provided below.
