Ever since the supposedly limited run of the Halo 3 Legendary Edition was first released, we've watched its price slowly tumble. Originally sporting a hefty $129.99 price tag, we've seen the price slide ever lower as retailers, desperate for shelf space, slashed the price again and again. Now, 1saleaday.com is selling copies of the Legendary Edition for the absolute rock-bottom price of $30. That's thirty bones for Halo 3, your very own cat helmet and more behind-the-scenes bonus features than you can shake a plasma sword at. The item is listed as "new," although it's hard to imagine the packaging has survived nearly three years without acquiring a few bumps and bruises. Keep in mind that we have no idea how reliable 1 Sale A Day is, but you're not likely to find a better price than this. There are only a few hours left on the sale, so both of you remaining Legendary fence-sitters had better hop to it.

Still don't have a copy of Halo 3 or are looking to upgrade your version? Well, today is the perfect day to jump in and step up to the elitist of all Halo 3 editions, the Halo 3 Legendary Edition. Why today? Well, because Amazon.com is offering the "giant black box edition" (just another name for it) for the regular edition price of $59.99. For realz! The Legendary Edition comes packed with behind the scenes stuff, gamer pictures, themes, art, cut scenes and the wicked cool (must. resist. urge. to. call. it. a. cat. helmet ...) Spartan helmet as well. These things may fly off the Amazon.com shelves fast, but then again they were supposed to be sold out on launch day ... no matter. It's a great deal, so spread the word.

Canadian fanboys. If you missed out on Amazon.com's $79 Black Friday Halo 3 Legendary Edition then we think we found a replacement. Over at Best Buy Canada they're offering the Legendary Edition for $99 (that's $50 off) AND they're also throwing in Lost Planet for free. It's not that shabby of a deal if you don't own either game and the helmet is uber cool. Though, we can't guarantee the Chief helmet will attract the opposite sex like we initially thought, but it will look darn good on your fireplace.[Thanks, xenocidic]

Somehow, someone is selling a Halo 3 Legendary Edition Spartan helmet on eBay months before the game releases. Seller kira_sendo supposedly purchased the helmet from a Microsoft employee who received the helmet via his connections within' the company. And we believe the story, because the listing looks legit enough. But look at that pricetag! Currently, the bidding is up to $166 which doesn't include the game, just the plastic Spartan helmet. We've heard plenty of grumblings about the Legendary Edition's pricetag before, but this takes the whole expensive helmet argument to a new level. No thanks, we'll pass on this and wait until September.[Via XYBA Podcast]

Still on the fence about which Halo 3 edition you should get and wish you could take a closer look at the Legendary Edition helmet to see if it's worth the money? Well, you're in luck, because Destroyer over at the Spanish Overpal forums posted some of the best Halo 3 Legendary Edition helmet shots we've seen yet. The pictures showcase every angle of the helmet, including the inside, the box, the serial number on the back, its base, and even the cloth bag the helmet comes in. And after viewing these photos do you think the Legendary Edition is worth the extra cash if a person just wanted the Spartan helmet container?[Via youNEWB]

Bungie has posted an article explaining all the detailed planning that went into the production of the $130 Legendary edition of Halo 3. Planning for the Legendary edition has been underway since June of 2005, when discussions were first held concerning what sort of molding method to use to form the helmet. In the end Microsoft chose injection molding and gave the project to one of its largest keyboard manufacturers in China. That's right, your fancy schmancy helmet is coming from a keyboard factory. According to the article, once peak capacity is reached at the factory, a new helmet will be produced every 12 seconds! Most of the article centers on the planning of the Legendary edition, but there are several photos of the manufacturing process sprinkled throughout as well.Die-hard Halo fanatics may hit the "read" link to read the full article.

While Bungie's Weekly Update had a slew of goodies for you to get excited about Halo 3, they also touched on the $30 increase in price for the Legendary Edition. They more or less apologized for the misleading initial price point, and assured us that the final product will be definitely worth every penny, especially to those who are die hard Halo fans. They even revealed that the Legendary Edition is limited enough to warrant Bungie staff pre-ordering their own copies, and that each one is individually numbered. So, with that coming from them, does it change your opinion on the thirty dollar discrepancy?

Obsessed Halo fanboys will be excited to know that the picture above could be what their Halo 3 Legendary Edition will look like. Xboxygen posted what look to be renderings of Halo 3's retail packaging for the Legendary Edition as well as the Limited Edition. We're not sure where these images came from or how Xboxygen got their mitts on them, but they look somewhat professional and sort of legit. We'll be the first to say that if these are real, the dark and simplistic packaging is very sexy and anyone buying the Legendary Edition would be proud to showcase the box. But don't get your hopes up, because the packaging usually isn't shown until the release date nears and these renderings only use the limited amount of official Halo 3 material that has been released. These could have easily come from an evil photoshopper who has no regard for the Halo fanboy code, so take them for what they're worth. Check out more pictures after the break. Update 1: We used our detective skills and confirmed that these box shots are indeed listed on a Microsoft press website. So, the packaging is official and comes from Microsoft, but could change between now and a Fall 2007 release. We're uber excited for that Legendary Edition box and uncontrollably salivating. Update 2: If you're looking for localized versions of the packaging then take a look at Joystiq's nifty little gallery ... enjoy.
