The Game Artist forums recently held a competition to determine who could best recreate a scene from a movie in a real-time game environment. The winners were a trio of forum users, going by the names of shadows, in3d, and Alina, who appropriately called themselves "The Replicants." They recreated the the classic Blade Runner scene you see above, and we're sure we don't have to tell you why it's the best of the bunch. Rounding out the rest of the winners were scenes from Hook (Ruffio! Ruffio! Ruf-ee-oh!), X2: X-Men United, I am Legend, and Aliens. Ready for even more double dipping? Warner is returning December 9 with the I Am Legend Ultimate collectors Edition in a 2-disc Blu-ray set with a $59.99 MSRP. Exclusive on Blu-ray are picture-in-picture Focus Points that let you watch the making of during the movie on a Bonus View-capable player. As pictured above, the box packs in a 44-page sketch book, art cards and more. That's quite a spread for one movie (and yes, the alternate ending is included in this release also), enough to make you go back for more?

  • Blu-ray releases on April 8th, 2008

At first glance this week looks pretty decent, but when you take a second look you'll notice the biggest release of the week is MIA. We'd hoped that Paramount would be ready to release Blu-ray titles in time for There Will be Blood, we now know we'll have to go without -- guess Paramount will just have to wait to get our money. Sony's leading the way this week with four releases though, two of which include BD Live content as well as TrueHD sound. Something also interesting to note is that the super hot, I Am Legend hits HD DVD this week, so we'll be interested to see how well it sells on next week's VideoScan numbers now that some retailers have eliminated its HD DVD shelf space. Blu-ray 496*Blu-ray The 6th Day (Sony) The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (Sony) Sharkwater (Warner) Space Ace (Digital Leisure) Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Sony) The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (Sony) Yukikaze (Bandai Visual) * Blu-ray total does not reflect 32 Paramount titles that were previously officially available.

  • I Am Legend reviewed on Blu-ray

Given that the HD DVD flavor of I Am Legend is still a few weeks off, we figured we'd point the eyes of BD supporters to a couple of Blu-ray reviews for the time being. Both reviews noted that the 1080p encode was nothing short of beautiful, and visually, the film was an absolute treat. Colors, contrast and black levels were all found to be "excellent," and the Dolby TrueHD track was singled out as being particularly fantastic. As for extras, there was enough here to keep the casual fan satisfied, but as with we saw with Michael Clayton, those really, truly interested in getting behind the scenes may be somewhat disappointed. Overall, it sounds like the BD version is certainly worth a glance if you enjoyed it in cinemas, but those hoping to find a world of extras may want to pass on the purchase and get their rental on.Read - The Man Room's I Am Legend Blu-ray reviewRead - HighDefDigest's I Am Legend Blu-ray reviewRead - DVDTown's I Am Legend Blu-ray review

Yesterday's Moviewatch focused on too much of a good thing, but today's post is about not enough! Kangarooster posted an epic trailer for I is Legendary, the World of Warcraft version of I am Legend. If this is indeed his first machinima, then I'm impressed. While he used the original music from the movie and voiceover by Will Smith, he found some interesting ways to illustrate the loneliness of the lead character. I particularly enjoyed the golfing bit and the scene with the zombie creatures. I think that he should recreate the entire film in WoW![Via Warcraftmovies.com]Previously on Moviewatch ...

  • Future Warner HD DVD releases to be inferior to their Blu counterparts?

Over the past two years Warner has pulled a complete about face. Starting out all red, all the time, then just before the release of HD DVD went dual format. But while Warner pledged to support both camps, many accused Warner still preferred HD DVD because of exclusive titles like The Matrix and the red version of dual release titles included additional features like In Movie Experience. But now that the shoe is on the other foot and HD DVD titles are supposed to be released three weeks after the Blu version, and it also appears that the red version will be the one missing features, as the upcoming release of I Am Legend appears to be missing the Creating I Am Legend Documentary and Cautionary Tale: The Science of I Am Legend featurettes. There's no way to confirm until the movie is released, but hey, at least Warner didn't quit HD DVD cold turkey like when Paramount went red.

I Am Legend (for those of you that have been living under a rock) is the third film adaptation of the 1954 Richard Matheson novel of the same name. Quite the popular property, it has spawned film versions in 1964 (with Vincent Price - now in the public domain and available for viewing or download) and 1971 (with Charlton Heston - I saw that one when it came out); A Rob Zombie song; the upcoming Warner Brothers film with Will Smith; a DC Comics tie-in; planned online, animated featurettes; And the Second Life game, of course. Whew. The game is doing very well in Second Life indeed. Last week I wandered around and took a look at it.
