In For a Penny was created by Selserene. It is actually a series of short films, each of which advances the overall story. In For a Penny is an amazing series of movies, touching on themes of intrigue, betrayal, and love. The overall piece has strong noir themes, which is a fascinating interpretation to bring into WoW film. You can find the other portions of In For a Penny on Selserene's blog. Take the time to check out this amazing series this weekend; it's a little longer than average, but worth every moment. Interested in the wide world of machinima? Machinima's a pretty big topic. Depending on who you talk to, "machinima" could include story-based movies, PvP footage, boss kills, music videos, and even videography of altered in-game landscapes. There are uncounted thousands of videos about World of Warcraft roaming the internet, so it can be very difficult to know where to start. In honor of the ticket queue for BlizzCon 2009, Moviewatch presents seven machinima movies and machinimators you should know. Certainly, these aren't the only 7 movies or authors you should know, but they do include some of the most popular staples of the art. If you find yourself chatting it up with a machinima enthusiast around the BlizzCon water cooler, you can probably be certain they've seen these shows. We went for variety in this selection, choosing videos with different styles and subjects. They certainly aren't listed in "countdown to the best" format, since trying to rate these videos like that would be dang near impossible. Instead, they are simply listed alphabetically, according to the creator of the movie.Check out the selection behind the cut.

Selserene actually released In For A Penny: Part Two "The Thorne of Rose Streeet" this past Friday. Since Moviewatch runs only during the week, we were faced with a dilemma. Do we feature this work immediately, to get the good news out to everyone as soon as possible? Or, wait until Monday, when the most readers would be available to see Selserene's movie? After enjoying the twenty minute installment, your intrepid Moviewatch team had their answer. We wanted to get it in front of as many people as possible. Everyone -- and I mean everyone -- should have the opportunity to see this series. If you haven't seen In For A Penny's prologue or first chapter, you might want to take the time to do so. I'm not sure it's necessary, since there's enough thematic information in this episode that you get the gist of what's happening. The beauty of Selserene's noir piece is that the genre really informs the story. Selserene displays a love of the film noir genre, but not because of the black-and-white composition. A significant factor of the noir genre is the lack of "good guys." Relatively few of the protagonists are completely noble in their motivation, and Selserene's characters seem similarly complex. And the mysterious Draenei woman? Totally for the win. I enjoy a lot of Selserene's imagery in this, even if I'm not a big blood elf fan. I think the luxury and decadence inherent in the scenery helps underscore some of IFAP's themes. (Corruption, evil, desperation -- yanno, noir stuff.) [Via Myndflame.com]

(This machinima may contain some adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.)At the beginning of this year, when we reviewed In For A Penny: Prologue, we called Selserene the "IT" girl of 2008. We're pleased to say that we weren't wrong. In For A Penny: Part One - "On All Eight" is a true work of art, considering that it was made within World of Warcraft."On All Eight" is about a falsely convicted man, Thayle, that puts everything on the line for a woman, who holds the key to his future. The film itself is a visually stunning masterpiece. It clearly took quite some time to write the story, find the actors, and edit a piece with such custom scenery. The result is something that would hold up against a real film noir.[Via Warcraftmovies.com]If you have machinima or movie suggestions from any MMO, please send them to machinima AT massively DOT com, along with any information you might have about them.

(UPDATE: We killed the video server for WoWTV. Great job, guys! They've fixed it for our viewing pleasure. This machinima may contain some adult content. Viewer discretion is advised.)When I first saw In For A Penny: Prologue, I noticed that the poster said that the movie would be out in Spring. Selserene was pretty sure that that would never happen, or she'd aim for 2009. Sure enough, she pointed out today that she released it with a few days to spare before Summer! In For A Penny: Part One "On All Eight" is the kind of film noir fantasy that movie buffs dream of. Thayle, the man falsely convicted in the Prologue, gambles with his heart and his future for a woman. The voice acting is great, there are musical scenes, mystery, intrigue, and for those of you that are interested, she has more Belf love ... Selserene is one of the most talented WoW machinimators that I've ever come across, and you'll really enjoy this film! Selserene is going to be the "IT" girl of 2008. She took fifth place with her first Machinima during the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, then she got right back to work on her epic film noir, In for a Penny. It is going to be released in two parts, with the first being the Prologue. The second part has no scheduled release date yet, despite the poster in the movie showing Spring 2008. If you enjoyed the video, you can download the high quality version. The Prologue focuses on a lost girl that stumbles into a shady club. What she witnesses transports her into a black and white world where all is not what it seems. It looks like sex, lies, and murder are on the menu of IFAP. I can't wait![Via Warcraftmovies.com]

Selserene, the machinimator responsible for the fifth place entry in the Warcraftmovies Christmas Spirit Contest, has released a trailer for her upcoming machinima, In for a Penny. IFAP is a film noir that will be broken into two parts, consisting of the prologue, and the movie itself. However, you can enjoy her teaser trailer, which does not reflect on the entire movie, now! Set in black and white, a sexy blood elf lady is watched by a gnome playing a piano. While it's raining outside, she decides to get a little freaky in the bedroom. As a side note, while working on this scene, Selserene discovered that blood elf males are about as "equipped" as a Ken doll!Previously on Moviewatch...
