What a difference a year makes, eh? One year ago, and you didn't have to put up with me yammering at you every Friday like a hyperactive badger with a personality disorder. One year ago, and we weren't free-to-play-anything, Turbine was its own company, the festivals were nowhere near as cool as they are today, and shrews freely roamed the land without fear of reprisal. So in my last Road to Mordor (of the year, stop rejoicing over there!), I thought it'd be great to look back at the wild rollercoaster that was 2010 in Lord of the Rings Online. I also thought I'd get an easy column out of all this, but that was before I had to read through 1,337 posts and my eyeballs began to lose pressure. January Stuff happened. Let's move on.

Ever since hearing the news of Turbine's acquisition by Warner Bros. last month, players have been anxiously awaiting a sign of how this might affect Asheron's Call, Dungeons & Dragons Online and Lord of the Rings Online. While answers are still in short supply, now we know who Turbine answers to: Jeff Junge. Junge was named Senior Vice President of Online Games and Digital Games Platforms by Warner Bros., a new position for the company. He was a key player in the purchase of Turbine, and will now be Turbine's direct boss. Junge has had a lot of influence within Warner Bros. as they moved into the games industry -- he convinced them to invest in OnLive, and led the initiative to purchase other game studios, such as Rocksteady Games and Midway Games. As one of the largest independent MMO studios is folded into the WB umbrella, we will continue to keep a close eye on the direction Junge and WB will take Turbine in the future. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment continues to grow as a major player in the industry, announcing today that Jeff Junge will drive its digital games business as Senior VP of Online Games and Digital Games Platforms. Under his former and even more long-winded title (Senior Vice President of Business Management for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group), Junge prompted some of Warner's most aggressive moves, overseeing the recent purchase of MMO developer Turbine and "guiding" the salvage of Midway's intellectual property. He also had a hand in the acquisition of Rocksteady Studios, developer of the acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum. In his new role, where he will report to WBIE president Martin Tremblay and Thomas Gewecke, president of Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, Junge will oversee aspects of Warner's digital games business and integrated studios like Turbine and TT Games. We're excited to see Warner take a more aggressive stride into digital distribution, as long as the result avoids comparison to the company's downloadable beat-meh-up, Watchmen: The End is Nigh.

Warner Bros. executive Jeff Junge has a laundry list of valuable gaming credentials on his resume. From recently leading the acquisition of a failing Midway Games to an early investment in dark magic engine OnLive, and even spearheading the purchase of TT Games a couple of years back, Junge is no stranger to the game industry. And all that would help to explain why, late this week, Warner Bros. announced the promotion of Junge to senior VP of business management for Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. The Home Entertainment Group includes, among many other things, the company's gaming division.According to the release issued by WB, Junge will continue to "drive mergers and acquisitions" for the company. We've been told on good faith that neither "mergers" nor "acquisitions" are any type of automobile. How do you plan on driving them then, Mr. Junge? Hmmm?[Via Edge]
