Three years is plenty of time to heal most wounds, but Dark Souls cuts deep. With Dark Souls 2 finally in our hands, our memories loom large. Was the first Souls joint from Bandai Namco and From Software really that demanding? Did it really punish us so much that difficulty defined it in our minds? Have our skills dulled in the months since? Joystiq's Sinan Kubba, in preparation for his review of Dark Souls 2, waded back into those murky waters and found that his experiences had stuck with him. As evidenced by this Tiny Stream, Sinan's senses are still keenly attuned to Souls' mean tricks. Even when he's prepared, though, the game still manages to get in some licks. [Images: Bandai Namco]

Block-rocking beats typically don't spring to mind when engaging in swords and sorcery fantasy. We don't automatically associate Tolkien and the dancefloor. Why shouldn't we? Skeletons and cave dwelling beasts like to get done, and so do fated heroes questing for loot and glory. Crypt of the NecroDancer dares to challenge both your dungeon diving skills and your sense of rhythm. Joystiq's Sam Prell has already spent time with Crypt of the NecroDancer, speaking with its creators about how to translate music into slick pixel art; now, Sam takes Joystiq Tiny Streams on a guided tour of an alpha version of the game. No easy task, as you'll soon see. If you enjoyed this stream, you can follow Sam's Twitch channel and tune in for more Joystiq Tiny Streams right here every Monday and Friday at 4PM EST. If you hunger for the live experience and want to hang out with the Joystiq crew, Joystiq Streams broadcasts live every Tuesday and Thursday at 4PM EST. [Image: Ted Martens]

Six Joystiq troopers went into the Titanfall PC beta on Tuesday, none came out. While these intrepid staffers did their very best to prevail, it was all for nought. Across all multiplayer modes offered in the early test version of Respawn Entertainment's upcoming shooter, Joystiq got thoroughly smoked. On the bright side, it was marvelously entertaining to watch them get positively obliterated by the competition. As captured in this Joystiq Tiny Streams edit of their adventures, the moment things truly got ugly was when all six got trapped in an alley during the popular Last Titan Standing mode. It's like the opening of Gangs of New York but, you know, with giant robots. If you enjoyed watching the Joystiq crew get taken to school, take note: Joystiq Tiny Streams appear every Monday and Friday at 4PM EST on Joystiq.com. Want to get in on the live action? Joystiq Streams broadcasts at 4PM EST every Tuesday and Thursday on the Joystiq Twitch channel. Our streams are chock full of developer commentary and schadenfreude. [Image: Respawn Entertainment]

Presidents Day, son! Today the Joystiq crew is dreaming of a winter break atop a mountain and enjoying the excess snow we seem to have on our hands. In fact, the heavy precipitation has gotten Mike Suszek, Joystiq's Contributing Editor, itching to hit the slopes. The roughly rendered, low-polygon slopes of Cool Boarders 2. Cool Boarders was Sony's own snowboarding series back on the PS1 and, while the series didn't have the same wild magic as SSX, it was still something special. Behold Mike's shredding skills. If you're feeling inspired, you can download Cool Boarders 2 yourself on PS Vita, PlayStation 3 and PSP Go... because why not. Joystiq Tiny Streams air every Monday and Friday at 4PM EST right here on Joystiq.com. Anyone who wants to enjoy more of Mike's streams can follow his Twitch channel. Tiny Streams has a dollop of punishing roguelike action for you this Valentine's Day. Nothing says, "I love you!" like watching someone rail against Dungeon of the Endless, the new game from Amplitude Studios, the Parisian team behind the popular strategy game Endless Space. Jess Conditt, Joystiq's Senior Reporter, dove into the alpha version of Dungeon of the Endless to give an early view of how Amplitude approaches a more terrestrial game of strategy. A more intimate experience than Endless Space, Dungeon is no less challenging than its predecessor while retaining its hard science fiction ambiance. Joystiq Tiny Streams air right here on Joystiq.com every Monday and Friday at 4PM EST. To check out Jess' full stream of the game, or to follow her future streams, hit up her Twitch channel. Welcome once again to Joystiq Tiny Streams, our new series of bite-sized streams of the Joystiq crew playing the games currently piquing their interest. Alexander Sliwinski, Joystiq's News Content Director, decided that it was high time he get back into city planning with SimCity. Nearly one year after its disastrous release, Alexander wanted to see how the game fared now that it could be played offline by a lone player. As his stream demonstrates, it's a demonstrably less frustrating experience. For those thirsty for more streaming action, Joystiq Streams from our Twitch channel every Tuesday and Thursday from 4PM EST to 5PM EST. We've got exciting stuff coming up this week, with a stream of Outlast on PS4 on Feb. 11. Anthony John Agnello, who's never played Outlast, will be behind the wheel. On Feb. 13, the good people at Phantom Compass will join Richard Mitchell for a stream of their new pinball RPG, Rollers of the Realm. Welcome back to Joystiq Tiny Streams, our new series of bite-size streams wherein the Joystiq staff takes you on a brief tour of what they're playing. Today's stream comes from one Xav de Matos, who decided to dig into a little State of Decay. Undead Labs' open-world survival game fits right in line with Xav's Four in February horror picks, so it's best to think of his early exploration here as training for the month ahead (as well as training for the zombie apocalypse). If you'd like to check out the full stream, head over to Xav's Twitch channel, and you can watch full Joystiq Streams from our Twitch channel as well. For more Tiny Streams, tune back in every Monday and Friday at 4PM EST right here on Joystiq. [Images: Undead Labs]
