After a brief sojourn to celebrate the Korean launch of Bluehole Studio's TERA, it's back to the grind for the En Masse Entertainment team tasked with bringing the fantasy action MMO to western shores. January saw En Masse achieve a significant milestone in relation to the game's final server hardware configuration, and the focus is now shifting towards a community play event tentatively scheduled for March. The event will serve two purposes: a test of the new hardware and an opportunity for players and people flitting about the periphery of the TERA community to get an updated look at the game. Event participants will be noticeably free of NDAs, so we're expecting a good bit of new TERA info and impressions over the next little while. En Masse will host a second event "a couple of months later," this time focusing on account management and support systems, with the North American beta to follow. Said beta will be "a multi-part odyssey" according to the official TERA website.

We never like to see a developer start to go on the down and out. Even in the rare event where we find few redeemable things about a game, we understand that the developers behind the project are generally good people and we hope that they continue to be fruitful in their endeavors. That's precisely why we were sad to read an old blog post from Hellgate: London programmer Guy Somberg describing how much of the Flagship staff, including their founders, is abandoning ship for less choppy waters.Although developers usually present a united front of optimism when their games are struggling, and indeed there is still some hope to be had with Hellgate's release into the Chinese market, you know that the individuals behind the game have to suffer when they're subject to so much heat from online vultures. After all, we've seen people on the developer side crack even when their game is a success. It's a very high pressure environment. We hope Somberg hangs in there and that Flagship manages to turn a corner.[Via GI.biz]

It finally happened! Sony has launched their 80GB, video-on-demand ready, super cool edition PlayStation 3 in Korea. While we weren't there to celebrate the event, a few people over at the PS3Forums caught the action with their trusty internet-surfing abilities. We can already tell which picture the anti-Sony crowd will use as their "no one came" picture, but these pictures are actually of the countdown before the launch. People came as the launch grew closer, left their seats, and crowded the stage. It's hard to tell, but from what we can surmise, it seemed like a pretty big success. In any case, welcome to PS3-world, Korea. Check out the pictures and leave your thoughts![via PS3Forums]

  • 80GB PS3 confirmed ... in Korea, at least

A while back we talked about the upcoming launch of the PlayStation 3 in Korea. At the time, there were still undisclosed details and an uncertain price point -- let alone the lack of a 20GB model at launch. Now we know why. See, you can always go to other sites to just get a piece of news here and there, but at PS3 Fanboy, we follow a string that connects pieces of news together. This is one such thread. Our logic is not unflawless, after all.It turns out those rumors of an 80GB model of the PS3 have come true. At least, in Korea. Upon the launch in mid-June, in addition to the 60GB model, there will be the option to purchase the 80GB model (it doesn't have the Emotion Engine thingy in it, it should be noted). The 80GB model will be sold for approximately 518,000 won (about $573). Is this fair to assume, then, that the 60GB model would come at a cheaper price? Would that portend a price cut for the rest of the world if the Korean launch proves successful? How about the launch of the 80GB PS3 worldwide? We don't know. We'll see.[Thanks, SPG!]
