  • Daily iPad App: KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese wants us to eat our noodles, not play with them

KRAFT had a brilliant idea for its "Dinner, Not Art." iPad app - rather than have children waste oodles of noodles making crafts, the company decided to create an app alternative that lets them work virtually with the popular elbows. As part of this effort, Kraft asks everyone to "make digital macaroni art and save the real noodles for dinner." KRAFT might just pull this off with its new iPad app, which is neatly designed and fun for kids. I let my children play with it and they enjoyed the novelty of placing and coloring the noodles on the iPad. As an added bonus, for every digital noodle saved in a piece of digital macaroni art, KRAFT is donating 10 noodles to the Feeding America charity. This promotion lasts until either the end of the year or 110,000,000 noodles have been donated. The KRAFT Macaroni & Cheese "Dinner, Not Art." is available for free from the iOS App Store.

  • Kraft vending machine teases children with adult-only pudding dispenser (video)

We've seen odd and law-swerving vending machines before, but none as meanspirited as Kraft's collaboration with Intel that only gives pudding samples to adults. The unimaginatively titled iSample denies the youthful its sweet nectar by taking a facial scan and determining dessert deservedness based on biometric data, like how far apart your facial features are. Part experiment, part publicity stunt, Intel is trying out technologies that could recommend products based on age. The company also claims it may retrofit the technology into existing machines to let companies study who's buying its products; Kraft is clearly in it just to deny children some pudding. To see if you have spent enough time at the fountain of youth, head down to Chicago's Shedd Aquarium or New York's South Street Seaport, and take your place in the line of parents ordering one for their progeny. Check the promo video after the break to see the machine wiping disappointment all over the kids' little faces.

So, you thought the whole reason to own a DVR was so that you could skip commercials? Think again. Today TiVo is rolling out the Madison Avenue-friendly Product Watch service, which lets you watch commercials on demand. Whether anyone will actually demand to watch these ads remains to be seen, but TiVo has managed to sign up over 70 advertisers, who will provide the service with everything from 60-second spots to hour-long infomercials, which will, in the words of TiVo CEO Tom Rogers, "deliver real, relevant results for our advertising partners while at the same time enhancing the TV experience for subscribers." Ads will apparently include gems such as cooking tips for products such as Kraft's Tombstone pizza and Jell-O, and a Ford ad featuring Penn and Teller. As long as we can delete them from our hard drive, we'll live with the ads -- though we may just archive the Kraft spots to DVD; you never know when you'll need some tips on preparing Jell-O or nuking a frozen pizza.

In all fairness, we saw Emeril do it first. Our friends at AdJab have discovered that Kraft has made more than 100 recipes available for download to your iPod in Notes form. Recipes include BBQ, drinks, desserts, sides and more. The portability is nice, I just wish there were a way to print these directly from the iPod. The screen is tiny, and my cooking area isn't always a safe place for my iPod to be.The good news is, now I won't have to refer to the mayonnaise jar whenever I want to make that great potato salad.[Via AdJab]
