How do you know the new Street Fighter film, The Legend of Chun-Li, is going to be great? It's easy. Just check out the interview segment we just lifted from ComingSoon.net with stars Chris Klein and Kristin Kreuk."Q: Are any of you gamesters?Chris Klein: [This is where Chris should have said "What the f**k is a gamester?" but he didn't, so he lost his chance to be on Joystiq.]Kristin Kreuk: I've never been a gamer but I've seen a lot of Street Fighter and it was really popular when I was in late elementary school into high school so I'm very familiar with it. I've seen a lot of people play it."So, no worries, everyone. She's watched people play. Also, even better news: Producer Ashok Amritraj says he hopes the movie is the beginning of a franchise! You know, we were never too crazy about Wednesdays, but this one's turning out to be just peachy.

Just as Japanese players were warming up to Chun Li's massive paws in Street Fighter IV, Kristin Kreuk was fending off man hands herself during a Tokyo press event promoting the upcoming release of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. While smiling and nodding to onlooking cameras and attending press, the February 12 event saw the former Smallville actress face off against another Chun-Li impersonator, this time of the male variety, with ridiculous results. Bask in the absurdity at Game Watch, knowing full well this is better than anything we're going to see on the big screen.

Based off of the single frame of Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li that we saw at this year's Tokyo Game Show, we feel confident in issuing this ringing endorsement for the film -- it could end up being the second-best live action Street Fighter film to date. That's why we were excited to see that two new pieces of media for the movie recently cropped up -- an official website (which may just serve as the new paradigm for interactive online advertisements), and a poster, which we've included after the break.Too lazy to make the jump? Here's a quick breakdown of the elements included in the aforementioned poster: Streets -- Zero. Fights -- Zero. Canadian actresses whose resumes are largely composed of superhero-infused teen dramas who were perplexingly chosen to play brawlers of Chinese descent -- One.

There's not much we can say to prepare you for the video after the break (which we carefully extracted from Capcom's TGS DVD). Let's go over the facts: Capcom is making a Street Fighter movie centered around Chun-Li (played by Smallville's Kristin Kreuk); that movie will be directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (who previously helmed DOOM); it will be terrible."Whoa, whoa, whoa Joystiq!" you exclaim. "Those first two statements are, as you said, facts. But that last statement ... surely that's just your opinion." We appreciate your concern, reader, but the smallest of sneak peaks – really, just a single frame from the film – is enough to convince us. Is Chun Li wearing a mattress?

Capcom's community blog has posted the above photo of Kristin Kreuk in brawler-to-film adaptation, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Though we don't get to see the high-kicking agent's leg-end, we're told Kreuk "is Chun Li assuredly in this sexy photo." We don't disagree, but it's not Chun-Li until we see some freakishly huge hands. Feel free to, uh, pore over the terrifyingly large and detailed version of the photo if you want.

Remember that Street Fighter film we heard about a while back? Remember how we thought Jessica Biel might be playing the lead role of Chun Li? Well, it turns out it's Kristin Kreuk instead, everybody's favorite Lana Lang.ComingSoon.net reports that the Smallville star has signed on to star in Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li, the live-action adaptation of Capcom's classic fighting franchise. Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, 20th Century Fox will be distributing the film, which begins filming in Thailand next March. Will Kreuk be able to fill Chun-Li's tiny shoes? And, more importantly, does she know how to perform the Hyakuretsu Kyaku? I guess we'll have to wait and see.
