Flight: It's the dream of every mammal and a few unfortunate ground-bound birds. It's only through technological ingenuity that we have soared to the heavens, and we have the gnomes to thank for that. Well, at least when it comes to EverQuest II, which is hosting the Gnomish Aerodome Races as part of the new Destiny of Velious expansion. Player pilots are invited to test their luck and skill at three challenging courses: Butcherblock (the most dangerous), Tenebrous Tangle (the longest) and Lavastorm (the trickiest). Each race track puts players at the wheel (so to speak) of a Gnomish aircraft to maneuver around and through various obstacles in an attempt to net prizes. Winners will receive a special title and the ability to pilot the craft for a short time thereafter (although it cannot be taken out of its respective zone). Check out this one-day event in EQII and make sure to look over the vehicles and courses in our early exclusive gallery below! %Gallery-116188%

Sony Online Entertainment has rolled out a significant amount of new content for EverQuest II. The title's Game Update 51 -- "Elements of Corruption" -- is now live, bringing with it some major changes to the Lavastorm zone. There's new solo content and quest lines, including level 80 solo quests, as well as mount paths and (additional) teleporters. Elements of Corruption goes far beyond the Lavastorm revamp though. Among the host of new features and content additions are the Ward of Elements two-group raid instances, a threat meter, and appearance slots. Have a look at the complete run-down of Elements of Corruption on the EQ II site to see what's new in the game, and for a closer look you can also flip through our Lavastorm dev tour.%Gallery-47248%

The dev team at EverQuest 2 is gearing up for their next big content update, GU51 - The Elements of Corruption. The focus of the patch is a revamp of one of the zones that launched with the game four years ago, Lavastorm. An original zone from EverQuest, the lore of it centers around the Magician Najena, a master of the Elements and summonable elemental pets.In the update, Najena is trapped in her underground lair and is being assaulted by the void creatures that were introduced in the latest EQ2 expansion, The Shadows Odyssey. It will be a x2 dungeon (two group raid) called the Ward of Elements. Adventurers must band together to save Najena and defeat the void incursion.Along with this new dungeon, there will be x4 raid dungeon, new high level quests and a new crafting zone. Massively will be bringing you spotlights on the new content in the coming weeks.%Gallery-45278%

The next big content drop for EverQuest 2 is coming in Game Update 51. As we discussed at the end of last year the developers are doing an 'EverFrost redux' on the Lavastorm zone, and now there's a preview of the new content up on the official EQ2 site. They'll be streamlining and refining the content that's already in place, making it easier to traverse the zone and enjoy the ongoing battle with the Sootfoot Goblins. In addition to this existing content two new dungeons, dozens of new quests, and a brand-new crafting zone for tradeskilling players. One of these dungeons will be an "x2", while the other will be an "x4", varying sizes of raid dungeons. The high level adventuring content sounds particularly interesting, as the Sootfoots turn from their dark magics to seek help against even greater evils. They'll be available as a faction that can be developed, without a doubt eventually leading to factional benefits and rewards. Full details on the Sootfoots, The Ward of Elements, and The Order of Flame are available on the official EverQuest 2 Players site.

Brett Scheinert, game designer on the SOE flagship product EverQuest II, has dropped into the official forums with a sort of 'New Year's Resolution'. In point of fact, it's a preview of new content coming to the game in Game Update 52! Posting with his forum name of timetraveling, Scheinert promised we'd see the following within the next few months: A new instance with 9 bosses geared for two groups at a time. Over half of the bosses will be slated to drop Void Shards, the new metacurrency introduced with the Shadow Odyssey expansion. This will be endgame content balanced for characters with only the very best gear. On top of that, players will also see a similar raid balanced for four groups at once. Tradeskillers will be seeing another trades instance, this time based in the epic dungeon 'The Void'. The classic zone Lavastorm will be seeing numerous improvements, similar to changes made to Everfrost in GU 48. Among these changes, players will see brand new areas with level 80 solo content tied into an all-new Lavastorm-based faction. This faction will offer numerous pieces of gear to earn, including 12 new armor sets with brand-new appearances. timetraveling makes a point to note that one of these armor sets is going to be a brand-new robe model with helm, shoulders, and legs as seperate visible pieces from the chest-part! Coming hard on the heels of an entire new expansion with multiple new dungeons, it's interesting to see the tack the EQ2 designers are taking with this. All new endgame content to explore, with new loot/appearance rewards tying into their revamp of older content. It's a great continuation of strides they took forward in 2008, and makes it sound like 2009 will be a great year to be an EverQuest II gamer. Stay tuned to Massively after the holidays for details on this new content!
