Those (lucky) techies over at Engadget got their hands on the Halo 3 Legendary Edition the other day which came in a promotional army duffel bag send from the marketing folks over at Microsoft. The duffel bag-o-goodies was a survival kit of sorts, featuring every single piece of Halo 3 themed 360 goodness (Halo 3 360, controllers, headset, etc.) and a real life first aid kit for when gaming gets a little too rough. Anyhoo, they opened up said promotional materials and posted pictures of the Legendary Edition unboxing in all its $130 glory, so we advise you check it out if you're curious to see what's inside. Be warned though, that helmet visor is one reflect beast.

Still clinging onto that secure feeling you got when you pre-ordered your copy of the Halo 3 Legendary Edition which guaranteed your cat helmet would be waiting for you on launch day? We're sorry to put you on edge, but we've heard a rumor that some stores have oversold Legendary edition pre-orders and won't be able to fulfill them all. Gasp!Rumor on the street is that some retailers have oversold pre-orders on the Halo 3 Legendary Edition and that those who thought they were in line to get one will be sad to hear they won't. We've heard from a few fanboys that certain retailers like Best Buy and UK GAME stores can't fulfill Legendary pre-orders. Fearing the worst ourselves, we called our local Gamestop to check on the status of our coveted Halo 3 edition and they calmed our nerves stating that our pre-order would be fulfilled, but that they aren't accepting anymore pre-orders. We aren't saying this is widespread, all that factual or that you aren't getting your Legendary edition, we're just saying that we don't want you to be disappointed come Tuesday when the retailer you entrusted with your pre-order tells you they don't have it. It's better to be safe then sorry, so feel free to call up whoever you need to and confirm your pre-order.

If you've been eying up the Halo 3 Legendary Edition (the version that comes with an uber cool Spartan cat helmet) then you best be getting your pre-order on, because it's expected to be sold out come launch day.In a statement from a Microsoft spokesman to GamesIndustry.biz, they confirmed that the demand for the $130 Legendary Edition in the US is high and that it is "on track to be sold out by the time Halo 3 launches next week". And our European friends find themselves in a similar situation, because CVG is reporting that the Legendary Edition is sold out in the UK due to the high amount of pre-orders. So, if you want to be a proud card carrying member of the Halo 3 Legendary Edition fanclub, then run (literally, run) to your local game store and see if you can pre-order and guarantee your copy. Good luck kids and lesson learned.

Have you wondered what it will be like on Sept. 25? Have you fantasized about pulling open your Legendary Edition of Halo 3, gently lifting the helmet with the slow, intense patience of the great lovers and revealing the tender gaming morsel inside? If so, you're creeping us out. But also, you can live your dreams vicariously through this video, shot at yesterday's Microsoft press conference in Amsterdam.Of course, we hope that when we open the helmet for the first time we'll be speaking in English and there will be something inside besides a wad of paper. Also, and maybe this is just us, but doesn't it look bigger than in the pictures?[Via X3F]%Gallery-2154%

A a few shots of the Halo 3 Legendary helmet hit our inbox today featuring photos from a Wal-mart display and on a Bungie employee's desk. Van Faulk sent us shots of a Wal-mart display showcasing the Legendary helmet in all its glory sitting next to a DVD pre-sell kit which includes a poster of some sort. The DVD case gives a nice size comparison for folks who still think the helmet is the size of a cat's head. The other set of photos comes from ProjectMod who stumbled across the pictures on a Bungie employee's MySpace page. What's cool to see in this set of photos is the black box (in all its cardboard glory) the Legendary edition is packed in. Though, we don't think the plush frog beanie comes in this edition of Halo 3, but we'll ask Microsoft and get back to you on that. All of the Halo 3 Legendary product shots from the "wild" are viewable in the gallery below, so get your drool buckets ready.%Gallery-5355%[Thanks, Van Faulk and ProjectMod]

Somehow, someone is selling a Halo 3 Legendary Edition Spartan helmet on eBay months before the game releases. Seller kira_sendo supposedly purchased the helmet from a Microsoft employee who received the helmet via his connections within' the company. And we believe the story, because the listing looks legit enough. But look at that pricetag! Currently, the bidding is up to $166 which doesn't include the game, just the plastic Spartan helmet. We've heard plenty of grumblings about the Legendary Edition's pricetag before, but this takes the whole expensive helmet argument to a new level. No thanks, we'll pass on this and wait until September.[Via XYBA Podcast]

Last night's Bungie Weekly Update helped clarify the multiple game disc confusion when yesterday's official box art hit the web. Frankie stated that the collector's edition will not include three discs and that the press photo was not only mislabeled, but wrongly included the third disc. What will be included in the collector's edition is two Xbox 360 discs both only playable on the 360; the Halo 3 game and bonus content. The third DVD, which can be played on any DVD player, is real and has bonus content but is only included in the legendary edition. Also announced is that the collector's edition special art book will indeed be included on the legendary edition, but in digital form on the third bonus disc. The good news is that it'll include more art that is not included in the hard bound book. Phew! Yes, it's a little confusing and that's why we've posted a complete rundown of what's going to be in the standard, collector's, and legendary editions after the break.

Bungie has posted an article explaining all the detailed planning that went into the production of the $130 Legendary edition of Halo 3. Planning for the Legendary edition has been underway since June of 2005, when discussions were first held concerning what sort of molding method to use to form the helmet. In the end Microsoft chose injection molding and gave the project to one of its largest keyboard manufacturers in China. That's right, your fancy schmancy helmet is coming from a keyboard factory. According to the article, once peak capacity is reached at the factory, a new helmet will be produced every 12 seconds! Most of the article centers on the planning of the Legendary edition, but there are several photos of the manufacturing process sprinkled throughout as well.Die-hard Halo fanatics may hit the "read" link to read the full article.

While Bungie's Weekly Update had a slew of goodies for you to get excited about Halo 3, they also touched on the $30 increase in price for the Legendary Edition. They more or less apologized for the misleading initial price point, and assured us that the final product will be definitely worth every penny, especially to those who are die hard Halo fans. They even revealed that the Legendary Edition is limited enough to warrant Bungie staff pre-ordering their own copies, and that each one is individually numbered. So, with that coming from them, does it change your opinion on the thirty dollar discrepancy?

Still trying to decide on which edition of Halo 3 you'll be purchasing this fall? There's the boring old regular edition, the spiffy collector's edition, or the fanboy's dream $99 legendary edition. To help make your decision easier Walmart.com posted additional pictures of the legendary edition packaging as well as the approximate dimensions. We must say that helmet is down right sexy and the quality looks amazing. It even states that the helmet is "Made from High Impact Polystyrene - similar to a motorcycle helmet". Sweetness! We're thinking the $99 legendary edition is totally worth it, because everyone knows the females love Master Chief's helmet. They can't resist the helmet.[Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]
