  • Lord Kazzak needs to visit Stormwind again, a lot has changed

One of the earliest memories I have of WoW was hearing a ton of chatter over guild chat about a gigantic boss named Kazzak killing everyone in Stormwind, and that I had to come and see it. I was out in the depths of Eastern Plaguelands, but that didn't stop me. I applied three sunders to the spider I was killing and then burst it down with successive heroic strikes. I dropped everything my warrior was doing and madly clicked on my hearth stone to head back to town, hoping beyond hope that I'd get to see the place destroyed. I wasn't disappointed. When I arrived I saw something that'll forever be etched into my gaming memory; a hundred foot tall demon stomping around the streets of our fair city, killing everyone who tried to stop it. Nothing would end his rampage save the grace of god. The city guards couldn't even touch him, he just wouldn't die. The priests prayed and shook their Benediction at him, the hunters took out Rhok'delar and let fly the arrows of justice, and then even the server's top warrior came with the legendary Thunderfury. I stood in awe of the warrior, wielding such a powerful weapon, causing blasts of nature damage with his hits. I wanted that sword, and I wanted to be him. But in the end even he succumbed to the inevitable fate that waited for us all that day, Kazzak would not be tamed. Just as the dead spirits were getting restless, a great booming voice was heard across the city. "One second," said this mystic. Where did it come from? My eyebrows raised and my head cocked, this wasn't something I'd seen in a game before. Was our encounter with the demon lord about to end?

  • Chat highlights from the TTR stress test

As horrible as Barrens chat and the trade channel can be by times, one of my favorite parts of Sunday's tournament test realm stress test was reading through the chats. Although I'm sure the guys had some pretty great tells, considering their names were more obvious than mine (Insideradam, Insideralex, and Vehn), I did catch some gems of my own. One thing that was rampant on Sunday was names that were clearly against the terms of service, and of course nasty language. So if any of the photos have blurred-out names, you'll know why! Before you jump through, keep in mind there are a few photos, so the load might be slow. Don't forget to check out my full coverage of the stress test! %Gallery-18020%

Sunday's Tournament Test Realm stress test was, in my opinion, a huge success. Despite the lag, the occasional crash or kick, and a one-hour maintenance downtime, the server held up quite well considering just how many people were bombing around on it. After maintenance, the lag improved quite a bit, and I'm guessing that Blizzard learned a fair amount that will help them to design the arena tournament realm.Of course, interaction with the GMs, fighting spawned bosses dropping orange epics, being polymorphed into all sorts of things, receiving rare mounts, and reading through /general, /say, and /yell, not to mention tells, were the real highlights from yesterday. While Alex has already given a fairly detailed account of our adventures, I have some stories of my own to tell. %Gallery-18020%

  • Around Azeroth: Kazzak flyby

Reader Firestalker of Kargath sends us this shot taken on a casual flyby of the Throne of Kil'jaeden, where we see Doom Lord Kazzak flanked by a pair of Deathguards. (I know, they look like Fel Reavers, but they're a bit nastier.) Firestalker notes that there's no actual throne, and so Kazzak just stands there, waiting to be attacked. "Must be an interesting life." Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth or Outland that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! Or perhaps you'd just like to see more of your pics from Around Azeroth. %Gallery-1816%
