As promised, our favorite cigar smoking, wise cracking first-person protagonist has hit the Android Market, and it didn't even take 15 years. The mobile version of the classic FPS is available now for Android 1.6 and up (that's according to the Market listing -- its producers recommend 2.1 and up), courtesy of Tapjoy and Machineworks Northwest as a $0.99 download. And don't worry, there's plenty of Duke to go around.

There are a few rarefied moments in the conscious of the world that unify us all. For nerds of a certain age, it's that point in 1996 when we first heard those hideous but oft-quoted one-liners spilling out of Duke Nukem's pixellated mouth. Thanks to MachineWorks NorthWest and Tapjoy, very soon you'll be able to relive those moments over and over again on your Android device (running version 2.1 or above). As it's a port of the iOS edition, we can expect pricing to remain around the same $1 mark -- so, you can decide if you'd rather kick some ass or chew some gum.

We guess Duke's ride wasn't too shot up, as he's making his way over to Android. Tapjoy and MachineWorks NorthWest have teamed up to bring the original classic, Duke Nukem 3D, to the Android Marketplace starting "very soon." It's all part of the Tapjoy Android Fund, an initiative started to bring "top-quality mobile games and applications" to the Android platform. Duke Nukem 3D on Android is a port of the iOS version, and will be compatible with Android phones and tablet devices running version 2.1 and up.

  • Heroic sacrifices: The companies behind Guitar Hero

The Guitar Hero series touched many people, and not just by strapping plastic guitars to them. As the series reached its absurd heights of success, it caused more game developers to enter into the service of note charts and extreme rocker-dude 3D models. And now that Activision has stopped production on the Guitar Hero series and closed that business unit, we can look back at how it affected the people who made it -- the companies who either moved on or were chewed up and spat out by the Guitar Hero monster.

  • Duke Nukem 3D on iPhone forever

Duke Nukem 3D has found another revenue stream, this time on the iPhone as the seminal FPS shoots onto the App Store for $2.99 -- as part of a "one day special launch sale." We're not sure what the normal price would be, but with Civilization Revolution launching yesterday at $4.99, Duke's adventure from 13 years ago had better not ask for much more. AppGamer notes that initial feedback on the title has been positive, though there's no "lite" version to test out. The game has the "thumb-stick style controls," but also comes with "slider-style controls." If you've already played this on your morning commute, be sure to share your opinion in the comments below! [Thanks, Chris]

That's right, everyone's favorite ass kicker and bubble gum enthusiast is making a new home on the iPhone, as IGN reports 3D Realms' superb FPS, Duke Nukem 3D, will be available on the iPhone App store soon. Ported by Machineworks Northwest, this direct PC port will feature the entire original game, so you'll be able to tip those working girls and relieve yourself in the game's many bathrooms soon enough. After spending some time with a preview build, IGN had nothing but good things to say, especially about the improved graphics. IGN didn't knock the controls, either, and said there will be two options: tap-to-shoot and a classic scheme. There's no word on when the game will be available on the App store, but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as it is.
