A new video of Magna Carta 2 has been released detailing the game's combat system. Thankfully, there aren't any random battles to be found here, as the combat in Magna Carta 2 is all fought in real time. Players take control of individual characters -- switching between them using the D-pad -- and perform various attacks and skills. The game employs a chain system, which allows players to link together the attacks of different characters. It definitely looks like a good change of pace for anyone that might be tired of slower turn-based battle systems. Check it out in the video above.

US RPG fans, you're getting a dose of JRPG goodness later this year when Namco Bandai releases MagnaCarta 2 exclusively for the Xbox 360. IGN reports a localized version of the Unreal 3 engine-based game will arrive on US shores, and will feature over 40 hours of gameplay, as well as fully-narrated CG scenes. Developer Softmax is returning to create the sequel to 2005's PS2 title, MagnaCarta: Tears of Blood, with Korean artist Hyung-Tae Kim handling character designs for the sequel. The game will take place on the Lanzheim Continent, which has been ravaged by war, and focuses on the story of Luto, who suffers from Amnesia. The game's battle system features a combination of turn-based mechanics with real-time elements, and players can switch between characters on the fly. You can even customize your party's AI at will. Head past the break for a trailer that shows off pretty much what you'd expect: Beautiful men and passive-aggressive dialogue. Oh, and magic.

One of the 31 titles Microsoft pimped at a Japanese press event today was Magna Carta 2, a role-playing game from developer Softmax set to launch this August out East. Judging from the Japanese debut trailer, Magna Carta 2 will feature such role-playing game innovations as: Brooding anti-heroes; effeminate gentlemen; hair that slightly covers one eye; and what we can only assume is supreme magics. No, you haven't played this game before ... but you probably played something just like it three times this generation. Okay, to be fair we have no idea what's going on in the completely Japanese trailer but it all looks a bit familiar. Maybe we're wrong or maybe the bad J-rock got to us. Watch it after the break and decide for yourself.[Via Siliconera]

Microsoft's plans for the Far East have always been something of a murky science, pea soup made somewhat more clear following the company's recent media conference in Japan. Siliconera reports that the Xbox 360 will play host to a number of high-profile titles in Japan in the months ahead, 31 in all, including Magna Carta 2 in August and tri-Ace RPG End of Eternity (sadly not based on the Isaac Asimov novel) in the winter.Japanese gamers will finally get to suit up as a decidedly not dead yet Commander Shepard when the original Mass Effect finally graces Japanese store shelves on May 21, while players will have to wait until later this summer to cure the locust plague in Gears of War 2. Another 14 XBLA titles were confirmed at the event, including the previously announced remake of mech shooter Virtual On Oratorio Tangram, which will arrive in Japan on April 29. Other notable upcoming downloads include Mega Man 9 in June, Space Invaders Extreme this spring and The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match sometime in 2010. And what of Square Enix, which plans fill Japanese XBLA appetites this year with puzzler Yosumin Live, Project Cube and the wonderfully titled 0 Day Attack on Earth (pictured)? Well, we have those trailers for you after the break.Source: This Is What Microsoft Has Planned For Japanese Retailers For NowSource: Square Enix And SNK Blast Announce Xbox Live Arcade GamesSource: Watch Some Square Enix Xbox Live Arcade Trailers
