  • Time Warner to carry MHD

In a new deal between Time Warner Cable and Viacom, Time Warner and Bright House Networks cable companies will be adding MHD to their HD lineup. While we are always happy to have another HD channel, many would prefer some other channel like National Geographic HD or even ESPN2 HD. There is no word when we can expect to see the channel online and no doubt those local branches without enough bandwith will go without MHD despite the agreement.

  • Catch a new concert every week on MHD

MTV's high definition network, MHD plans to premiere a new concert every week for the rest of the year. According to Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President of VH1, live concert and music programming are among the top things HD viewers want in a music channel. Of course, that doesn't explain why they only show music videos at 3 AM, but hopefully this is the start of an improvement. MHD launched earlier this year and is already available in half the HDTV-equipped homes in the country. MHD certainly puts up nice concert programming, the problem is they repeat the same content over and over throughout the week. Most networks don't consider adding one new episode of a show each week a major achievement, we'll be very excited when MHD reaches that point. The concert premieres planned: CMT Giants: Reba McEntire, premiering Saturday, November 18 at 8pm ET/PT on CMT and simulcast on MHD The 2006 MTV European Music Awards, premiering Saturday, November 25 at 9pm ET/PT CMT Crossroads: Lindsey Buckingham and Little Big Town, premiering Saturday, December 2 at 9pm ET/PT on CMT and simulcast on MHD Life & Rhymes: Snoop Dogg, premiering Saturday, December 9 at 9pm ET/PT Summer Fest: Lynyrd Skynyrd, premiering December 16 at 9pm ET/PT Isle of Wight Festival: Snow Patrol and Jet, premiering December 23 at 9pm ET/PT

Cable customers in Louisville and Covington, Ky.; Columbus, Ohio; and Rockford and Macomb, Ill woke up to an upgraded digital cable package today, as Insight launched its InsightDigital 2.0 service. The upgrade brings new features as well as 5 new SD channels and 3 new ones for HDTV owners: ESPN2-HD, TNT-HD and MHD. Other Insight customers should expect to have the upgrades by early November. A look at Insight's website indicates a new InsightDigital 2.0 package with HDTV and DVR, including the three new channels plus the five existing national channels (Discovery HD Theater, ESPN-HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies and Universal HD) for $15.95 over the basic cable rate. Our fourth grade education indicates eight is better than five, so we can't help but applaud this move. There's NHL action on INHD as the Flyers face the Sabres, or a reheated episode of Criminal Minds filling the hole left by the cancellation of Smith. Speaking of cancelled series, we'll probably tune in to an HD rerun of last year's cancelled sci-fi show, Threshold. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

What we're watching: This week's stop for Discovery HD Atlas is Brazil, which should look excellent in 1080i. The CW has switched Sunday and Monday night lineups, starting this week we have Runaway to look forward to. Sunday Night Football could get ugly, with the struggling Oakland Raiders facing a strong Denver Broncos team at home. We'll stick around to catch the original The Thomas Crown Affair on HDNet later on.Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

On Fox is baseball action, with either the National League or American League Championship depending on where you live. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

If you were looking forward to a new episode of Smith tonight...don't. The show has been cancelled and replaced with a CSI rerun. Ted Danson's Help Me Help You is still around, and of course there is always Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars on The CW.Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

What we're watching: CBS has made a slight lineup change, moving How I Met Your Mother ahead of not-cancelled-yet The Class. What About Brian is back on ABC with its second season premiere, which would give us a peek at what Monday night will bring all fall, except for The CW switching its Sunday and Monday shows starting next week. We always know when Monday Night Fotball is coming on and tonight the Baltimore Ravens take on the Denver Broncos in what should be an excellent matchup. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

The CW's outgoing Sunday night lineup -- all four shows move to Monday starting next week -- makes it's second and final appearance while Dexter queues up a second episode on Showtime. Although the picture quality hasn't pleased everyone, NBC's Sunday Night Football features the defending Super bowl champion Steelers vs. the Chargers in a great AFC matchup. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

ESPN & ESPN2-HD have Tennessee vs. Georgia and South Carolina vs. Kentucky on tap, while the Dodgers try to stay alive against the Mets on Fox. If all of that isn't enough, we've got two prime time boxing matchups, with 7-foot tall Russian heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev defending his title against Monte Barrett on HBO as Diego Corrales battles Jose Casamayor for the Lightweight title on Showtime. Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

What we're watching: Lost. The big one is back, one of the most popular HD shows of the last two seasons makes it's season debut tonight. TV Squad will be live blogging the episode if the recap episode and music video weren't enough for you. After Lost is the series premiere of The Nine. Something odd happened during a bank robbery turned hostage situation and if the show is anything like Lost, we suspect they'll spend a whole season not telling us what it was. Also returning tonight is hockey, with Sabres at Hurricanes on INHD. Finally, no matter what your program guide says, America's Next Top Model is not in HD.Our traditional high-def listings continue below.

The Major League Baseball regular season is finally over and the Detroit Tigers face the New York Yankees tonight in a first-round matchup on Fox.

Showtime is getting in on the act as well, with their brand new show Dexter, featuring a title character who is a cop..and a killer/dismemberer.
