We're huge fans of the convenience of digital distribution – why trek out to the store like some caveman to buy a plastic disc when we could simply download a game through the innernette? Rockstar is trying to make a case for downloading by discounting four of its top games through Xbox Live's Games on Demand service. For today only, you can download LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne 3 and Midnight Club: LA for 33% off each – that comes out to $20 for LA Noire and Red Dead Redemption, $40 for Max Payne 3 and $10 for Midnight Club: LA. All of the games save for Max Payne 3 are going for more than their Games on Demand sale price on Amazon right now.Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention three of these games are included in Rockstar Games Collection 1. The only game not included is Max Payne 3, but that's fine because Max just loves being the black sheep of the family.

Accidental downloadable content and info leaks are about as prevalent as our use of comic book captions and now, thanks to Xbox.com, we can kill two birds with one stone. According to 360Sync, Xbox.com's Marketplace RSS accidentally revealed two upcoming vehicle packs for Midnight Club: LA -- which brings MCLA's DLC leak count to two.According to the Marketplace post, which has since been removed, the South Central vehicle packs will add seven new vehicles to the game. The first pack was listed to include the 2008 Mercedes-Benz CL 65 AMG, 2008 Audi S5 and 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT, with the second pack bringing the 2008 Ducati 1098 R (listed as free), 2008 Cadillac XLR V, 2008 Lancer Evolution X and 2007 Aston Martin DB9 into the game.360Sync also points out that all seven of the vehicles are currently available to use during delivery missions added in the recently released South Central Premium DLC, but are not available to buy from the garage -- leading the Xbox-centric blog to believe the content packs will simply unlock the ability to purchase them in the game. Time to wait and see, but something tells us gamers won't like paying for that content.

After a few bumps in the road, Midnight Club fans can finally cruise an expanded South Central with the release of the free and premium Midnight Club: LA DLC packs. Both released on Friday, the downloads expand the racing game's environment beyond the disc, adding new areas to complete the South Central section of the game. The basic map expansion, available free to Xbox Live Gold members, adds four new neighborhoods, bringing racers to familiar landmarks like Exposition Park, Crenshaw Plaza, the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and more. The premium South Central expansion -- priced at 800 ($9.99) -- adds the new areas as well as 9 new vehicles, 26 new races, 12 new battle maps, 10 new delivery missions, over 100 new red light races, more cosmetic and under-the-hood options, as well as fist-pumping anthems (aka music). If you plan on racing online, but aren't down with the premium content, make sure to download the map expansion -- it's required content if you plan to cruise with gamers that have MS points to burn.Download -- 'South Central' Map Expansion (0)Download -- 'South Central' Premium Upgrade (800)

  • Midnight Club: LA DLC mistakenly released, could cause issues

    01.14.2009

Early yesterday morning a few eager Midnight Club: LA fans were excited to find a bouquet of free DLC on the Xbox Live Marketplace, ripe for the virtual picking. However, Microsoft warns the content was accidentally released during a test and keeping the DLC on your system could cause numerous issues with achievements and saved game files. "You may have had the chance to download it while it was up there. If you did and if it's sitting on your hard drive you should delete it," Xbox EMEA community manager Graeme Boyd wrote on his blog. "It was being tested when it was mistakenly put live and therefore it may not work properly, the Achievements won't register and could cause you problems with your Midnight Club: LA game saves." Before you cry, "Microsoft is trying to swindle me out of getting free DLC," remember, the planned Midnight Club: LA DLC is supposed to be free when it launches. Unless you're brave enough to hinder your progress through the streets of Los Angeles, you may want to wait until the content is officially released; which should be soon enough. [Thanks, Firecatman. Rockstar construction crews are hard at work laying down pavement for those already bored with Midnight Club's LA streets. The developer confirmed that it will release a "South Central Upgrade Map" for free next year, adding numerous LA landmarks and a new area equivalent to about a third of what's already on the disc. Those looking to burn a little of their leftover holiday cash can also pick up the "South Central Content Pack," which will trick out the racing game with new character competitions, races, music and that all-important element of the LA landscape: The SUV. No release date for either download has been announced, though Rockstar notes that Xbox 360 and PS3 racers can look forward to rolling down the 105 Freeway sometime in early 2009.

Originally set for release the second week of September, it was revealed that Rockstar's Midnight Club: Los Angeles would be delayed into the second week of October. Now, thanks to a Take-Two Q3 fiscal report, we learn that Midnight Club: LA has been delayed a few more weeks. The newly new retail release is October 21st for North America and October 24th for Europe. Hopefully, Rockstar can deliver by the end of October. That said, we wouldn't be all that surprised to see it slip into November. [Via RockstarWatch, Thanks Firecatman]

It wasn't all good news in Take-Two's stellar third-quarter earnings report and conference call today, as the company announced that the release date for Midnight Club: Los Angeles has been pushed back to Oct. 21 in North America and Oct. 24 in Europe. The new date follows previously announced North American dates of Oct. 7 and Sept. 9 for the game's release. Take-Two said the extra time is being used to help polish up the game and to make sure its release doesn't get lost amidst a competitive holiday schedule. Here's hoping this one finally sticks.

With the release of Rockstar's Midnight Club: Los Angeles rapidly approaching this October, don't expect to see any demo gracing the Xbox Live Marketplace. Or even split screen multiplayer. According to AddictGaming, a Rockstar rep informed them that neither split screen will be included or a game demo will be releasde for Midnight Club: LA. Something about a demo not being able to fully encapsulate what is the Midnight Club experience ... blah, blah, blah ... sure.[Thanks, Joseph Humphrey]

Rockstar has just released a new trailer for their upcoming open world racing game, Midnight Club: Los Angeles. But, we have a few problems with the trailer: first, if it's a Midnight Club, shouldn't these races be taking place at night? Secondly, if this really is Los Angeles, how is a driving game possible? Shouldn't players be stuck, crawling through painful smog-filled traffic? Regardless, this should give Burnout Paradise a run for its open-world racing money.

Click for high-resolution image. Now that most everyone is done with Grand Theft Auto IV, what can Rockstar fans expect from the notorious publisher/developer? Midnight Club: Los Angeles will transplant car lovers into yet another huge, fully rendered city: LA.The fourth installment of the Midnight Club franchise will hit PS3 systems October 7th in North America and October 10th in Europe. (That's a one month delay from its previously announced September release.) Rockstar is promising yet another seamless world, just like the one they created with GTA IV. We hope you opted to use pencil when scribbling the release date for Rockstar's latest non-felony related driving game into your Niko Bellic pinup calendar. Midnight Club: Los Angeles – the fourth installment in Rockstar San Diego's pimp-your-ride racing game – has jettisoned the old September 9 release date in favor of a new October 7th date (October 10 for you Europeans). Ostensibly, the extra time is being used to put that final coat of Turtle Wax on the open-world, track-less, load-time-less title but we like to imagine they're having difficulty getting the LA traffic experience just right. %Gallery-21084%
