It's been a few years since news of Prox Dynamics' Black Hornet mini-copter has swung our way. But now it appears the wee reconnaissance drones have moved out of the prototype phase and into the war zone. As part of the British government's £20 million contract with the Norway-based outfit and defense contractor Marlborough Communications, 160 of these camera-equipped spy copters have been commissioned, with a portion of those units employed by troops stationed in Afghanistan. That might seem like a huge sum to pay for a fleet of remote-controllable war toys, but these 4 x 1-inch copters do present a definite advantage: they can deliver full video and stills, ably maneuver in high winds and help navigate troops past "insurgent firing points" and open terrain. All of which has the Ministry of Defence quite pleased, even prompting one Minister to call the fleet of Black Hornets a "key component" of the MoD's current budget. That's not surprising really, considering the governmental arm's plans to pump nearly £20 billion into the development of similar tech for its ISS (Information Systems and Services) and ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) programs. So, as of today, we have mini copters with cameras. But, tomorrow always brings the promise of lasers...

Many folks have had their eye on Baroque, taking note of its release this week. And if you aren't one of those people, then this isn't your week. There's, uh, Mini Copter Adventure Flight, if you're brave enough to try and tackle such a big adventure in such a small copter. But, other than that, nada.So are you going to check out Atlus' RPG? We suggest you wait for a certain gaming blog to weigh in first, as they're in the process of reviewing it as you read this. Until then, might we suggest seeing if there is a Virtual Console game you want to download or checking out one of the many Wii games that recently received a price slash? If not, what are you playing?%Gallery-11716%

Aksys appears to be the default U.S. publisher for Arc System Works's Japanese releases. In addition to the wonderful DS games they're localizing, they have picked up Sonic Powered's mini-flight sim, Petit Copter. The American release will be titled MiniCopter: Adventure Flight. This is the first American release for a game in the Petit Copter series, which has entries on the PS2, Xbox and other systems. Now that we know we'll get to play it, we're somewhat more interested in the title than before. The graphics are pretty rough, yes, but flying around in an oversized world, manipulating objects and carrying out objectives with air missiles and suction cups at least sounds unique. Of course, we'll be a lot more "somewhat more interested" in a budget-priced MiniCopter.
