  • OLED Lego train station emerges from Adafruit and Arduino gear, minifigs to get home on time

Who knew Lego characters had to be somewhere in a hurry? Adafruit did, as it just whipped up a minifig-sized train schedule. The invention mates one of Adafruit's own 1-inch OLED boards with an Arduino Uno controlling the schedule behind the scenes. It looks to be a straightforward project for the DIY types, although the display is currently all show: the schedule doesn't (yet) pair up with the train tracks to automatically let your minifigs know if their trip to the pirate spaceship castle has been delayed by ghosts. You can check the source link for the full instructions. Duplo builders, alas, are kept out of the loop.

  • Friday Flickr Find: Unboxing an iPad, LEGO style

For many of us Apple geeks, unboxing your new product is *almost* as much fun as actually using it. And while there are several ways to show off the event, having the box opened entirely by LEGO minifigures photography is probably one of the most creative and interesting ones I've seen. Enter the world of "ntr23", a TUAW reader and Apple fan who has an apparent affinity for taking pictures of minifigures performing various tasks, the most recent of which was unboxing his new iPad. At 1.5 inches tall, the iPad reminds me more of an iFloor, but that doesn't stop the figures from putting on a good show. From receiving the package to syncing with iTunes, the minifigure team has you covered. If you're thinking this looks familiar, you're probably right. This same team of LEGOs used ladders to scale the box of the original iPhone a couple of years ago, and one of the minifigures was recently spotted attempting to load OS 4 on the original iPhone. I'm thinking someone might want to let him know that's not how it's done :-) If you like what you see, be sure to check out ntr23's Flickr page for more.

As if the idea behind the LEGO Universe MMO wasn't already pretty awesome in our books, this shiny new trailer straight from the CES floor has cranked up the previous levels of awesome to 11. In the new launch trailer we're treated to zombie pirates, ninjas, characters building race cars in bullet-time, rockets, and all manner of other cool-looking LEGO craziness. Along with the shiny new trailer, we've also managed to get our hands on a good number of screenshots that not only show off some of the environs that Netdevil have created, but shed some more light on how things will work inside LEGO Universe. According to what we've gleaned from the CES reports, the "LEGO brick lies at the center of the experience" so players will be able to use them for everything from completing simple building challenges to "sophisticated brick-by-brick building." Netdevil has also tapped a group of LEGOmaniacs called LUPs (LEGO Universe partners) to help them build imaginative content for the game. We've got the trailer for you behind the break, and gathered up the screenshots into the gallery below. Either way you go, it looks like we're in for some seriously fun LEGO Universe adventures! %Gallery-82359%

Last night we posted an image of two little Xbox 360 minifigs asking where the heck they come from and how we can get our hands on them. And again, the Xbox 360 Fanboy community has pulled through as we've finally figured out these little guys' history. Last night Giuseppe Genga sent us an image stating his friend not only has the two toys, but also an inspired Xbox 360 faceplate that he got off of eBay. Mr. Genga also told us that this little gift set was from the Korean Xbox 360 launch event. Then today Chris commented that he found an eBay auction where we could get our hands on them. Finally, Frederik confirmed that they indeed did come from the event, are available on eBay and are called Qees. Phew ... so that's how the mystery of the Xbox 360 toys came to be solved. So, if you have any 360 Qees laying around and want to sell them, contact us. Otherwise, we guess there is always eBay.[Thanks, everyone who helped]

After today being an extremely slow news day, we decided to browse Flickr tonight for some exciting Xbox stuff. After navigating through random photos of people's nail clippers, cheese fries and yellow hats, we came across the two little gems above. These two 360 mini-figs are toy collector kingkong21's pride and joy (or so we think), one sporting a 360 sphere for a head and the other looks to be some sort of dying mouse. Anyone know where we can get our hands on these little dudes or where they come from? These guys could totally be official security guards of Fanboy Towers as they are already proving themselves by holding off the dreaded PS2 controller from us 360 fanboys.

  • PodBrix to offer Wozwear T-shirts

The folks at PodBrix have done it again. PodBrix occasionally releases limited-run, Apple-themed Lego minifigs. Previous releases have included Woz, Steve delivering a keynote and "Mr. Brix," which is a small figure that attaches to your headphone cord. On January 17th at 9:00 PM EST, they will release the Wozwear 6502 T-shirt. According to PodBrix,"...the Wozwear 6502 and is a custom made shirt featuring an image of our previous Woz minifig holding a 6502 processor chip. The interesting aspect is that we use an actual 6502 processor chip and attach it to the shirt with a magnetic clasp." Here's the best part: It's a working chip, and if removed from the shirt and popped into an old Apple machine, it would work (you may remember that this is the chip used in the Apple II's). These things usually sell out in a matter of minutes (they sold out of 270 Woz minifigs in less than two minutes in August), so have your credit card and mouse ready. Podbrix will make 300 Wozwear 6502 shirts available for $34.99US each starting at 9:00PM EST tomorrow night. Good luck.[Via Cult of Mac Blog]
