Massively has been following the latest content update for Lord of the Rings Online, which is Volume II Book 8: Scourge of Khazad-Dûm. We've now learned via MMeOw that Scourge of Khazad-Dûm will release on June 23 (US/Oceanic)! As a bonus, players can already download the patch; the update weighs in at a fairly hefty 600mb and links can be found in the official announcement on the LotRO forums. The patch notes are epic in length, and it might just be quicker to re-read one of Tolkien's works, but they seem to cover everything that's changing in Lord of the Rings Online. If the 23rd and the release of Scourge of Khazad-Dûm can't come soon enough for you, have a look through the dev tour that Turbine gave us, showing a bit of the content you'll soon be playing in Volume II Book 8.%Gallery-64417%%Gallery-64288%

  • Can a LotROCON work?

SOE has Fan Faire and WoW has BlizzCon, but could a convention centered around Lord of the Rings Online (or all Turbine games, for that matter) evoke enough interest? Many fans seem to think it's about time they had their own company- or game-specific con as a place to meet others who enjoy the work Turbine has done with LotRO, DDO and Asheron's Call. Perhaps the biggest advocate is a blogger by the name of the LotRO Follower, yet the original idea came from Moormur at the LotROCast podcast. Other members of the LotRO Blogging Collective have thrown in their own two cents, like The Middle-Earth Adventurer who makes the point that it doesn't have to start off large, as in time it will grow.So as the general MMO-playing public, we'd be curious to hear what you have to say on this subject. Have the success of the other topic-specific cons shown that it can be done with others, or should Turbine fans just get together at other major cons like Dragon Con, PAX or GenCon?

Lord of the Rings Online's Volume II: Book 7 is right around the corner, and the developers at Turbine are breaking out their best teasers for the new content with a recent dev diary. This diary, entitled "Lothlorien Quest Notes" gives us some comprehensive details about what to expect with the upcoming free content patch.Over at the LotRO fansite MMeOw, they take their own look at this dev diary and what it means to them. "Book 7 is a new "on ramp", as has been stated previously in the forums. This means it doesn't require you to have finished the previous Volume II books to start it. It's still heavily recommended that you finish Books 1 through 6, however, so you'll get the full effect of the storyline." Check out the complete dev diary for more information.

  • Self-rez upset in LotRO: Storm in a teacup?

With the Book 7 update for Lord of the Rings Online, a new self revive ability is being added to all the classes in the game. Upon first hearing this news, one is inclined to fear the worst: easy mode. But after noting that this ability comes with some serious caveats, things begin to look rather rational on the part of Turbine. For an impressively convincing and balanced take on the whole situation, we point you to the MMeOw Lord of the Rings Online blog. It all makes more sense when you take into consideration the ever-increasing revive recharge times as you level. And in addition to that restriction, a self-rez'd player comes back with 20% power and morale and the standard dread/item wear applied per a normal death.Ultimately, the new ability doesn't come in handy where most players would have cause for concern: PvMP and instanced areas of play. And we're not entirely sure if there's any use for a self revive of this nature outside of getting overwhelmed in solo PvE play.
