In Guild Wars 2, an account is allowed to join multiple guilds on multiple servers. This allows you to play with different groups of friends by switching your guild representation on the fly. Want to join a guild with your best friend from high school? Want to join a guild made up of people who also read your favorite MMO news site? It's all possible. But some have said that this breaks up guild loyalty and might even be considered a bit on the rude side. So this is where your opinion comes in. If you're a Guild Wars 2 player, do you take advantage of the multi-guild feature? Or do you practice guild monogamy? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

Guild Wars 2 caused a stir recently at PAX when its devs announced their concept of multiple guilds. According to the news, guild membership will be account-wide, and players will be able to log in and browse the chat for each of the guilds to which they belong. In a recent installment of Flameseeker Chronicles, Rubi gave a great rundown of the pros and cons of a multiple guild system. While there are still a lot of details yet to be revealed, Guild Wars 2 is changing the way players view guilds. But what about all of the other MMOs currently out there that we all know and love? If you're a guild leader, chances are that you've already dealt with the question of whether to allow members to have characters in other guilds. Can it work, or is it a recipe for drama? In this week's Guild Counsel, we'll look back at how far guilds have come and whether allowing for multiple tags can work in current MMOs.

ArenaNet may have increased the speed of Guild Wars 2 reveals in a big way, but we've still got a long-running question that's not been answered: How will guilds work? In a game where guilds are an important-enough feature to be included in the game's name, it's natural that we'd be very eager to know how they fit in. We still don't have many details, but last week we got one very important one. The ArenaNet crew made an announcement regarding guilds at PAX: "Guild membership is account wide, and you can add as many guilds as you like. You will be able to choose, at any time and on any character, which guild chat you are viewing and what guilds you are currently affiliated with." (Hat tip to Elixabeth at TalkTyria.) This is an exciting development, and it's spurred a lot of talk in the GW2 community, so I want to take a closer look. Follow along the jump and let's talk guilds in Guild Wars 2!

When World of Warcraft launched, my EverQuest guild immediately signed on. But one of our members had a large number friends not in the EQ guild that wanted to join, so we made a new guild with a new name just for WoW. Within the first year, that guild died down and many of us who moved on to a more active guild.Flash forward to today. Some of the old EverQuest people are back, this time under the EverQuest guild name. It is a joy to play with them again, but now I find myself caught between three guilds: the first WoW guild, the current one and the returning EQ guild, . Thank Elune for custom chat channels that allow all of us to stay in touch.I wonder how many of you are caught between guilds old and new? And what do you do about it? How do you handle the temptation to ditch your current guild and go back to party with your old friends who may be far behind you in content?
