Napoleon: Total War free this weekend on Steam, SOL: Exodus only $5 today
Steam has a pair of deals worth checking out right now for Napoleon: Total War and SOL: Exodus. First up, Napoleon: Total War is free to play from now until Sunday at 1PM Pacific time. If you like what you play, the game is currently half-off for $10, which is a lot of strategy for something so little -- much like Napoleon.Also half-off today only is SOL: Exodus. The indie flight sim may not by the grandest space adventure ever digitized, but for $5 there's plenty of value in playing a genre we haven't seen much of in the last ten years.%Gallery-145245%
Enslaved, 007: Blood Stone, Napoleon: Total War soundtracks nominated for Ivors
The Ivor Novello awards are back. Named for the Welsh composer, the British awards honor the best scores and original soundtracks for movies, television and video games. This year's nominations have been published -- but, as with last year, at least one-third of the composers nominated must be British or Irish, which might knock a lot of your favorite soundtracks out of contention. Still, congrats to Ninja Theory, Bizarre Creations and The Creative Assembly, whose Enslaved, James Bond 007: Blood Stone and Napoleon: Total War, respectively, have each been nominated for Best Original Video Game Score. The winners will be presented on May 19, so stay tuned then to see who walks away with the Ivor.
Napoleon: Total War whipping out The Peninsular Campaign this summer

Stop giggling -- this is a serious expansion to the critically acclaimed historical strategy game about the fight between Napoleon and various European powers over the Iberian Peninsula in the early 1800s. The Peninsular Campaign (seriously, stop) adds a new campaign map to Napoleon: Total War featuring Britain, Spain and Portugal countering Napoleon's French forces, as well as three new agent types (priest, provocateur and the Guerrillero) and new features for multiplayer. Extra content and new challenges will make the game longer and harder (really?) than ever before. For those interested, the add-on pack will be available exclusively through Steam later on this summer. The rest of you, get your minds out of the gutter. %Gallery-93678%
Heavy Rain buoyed to top of UK sales charts
Consumers in the UK poured out the pounds for PS3's Heavy Rain last week, according to Chart-Track's all-formats chart. The adventure game took the hill from Aliens vs. Predator, which slipped down one spot. Meanwhile, Just Dance kept doing its cha-cha of endurance and took third. Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus got a second wind (or a big shipment to the region) and overtook Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 after moving up five spots and into fourth. Finally, Napoleon: Total War marched in at #12 while White Knight Chronicles began its quest at #35. Total War games 66% off on Steam this week
Strategic war game buffs, take note: All of the Total War titles on Steam are receiving a massive discount this week, to the tune of a whopping 66 percent off. In fact, you can pick up the Total War Mega Pack, which includes Medieval II: Total War, Rome: Total War -- including the Alexander and Kingdoms expansions -- and Empire: Total War for $20.39. Additionally, the Empire: Total War Downloadable Content Pack, containing all the Empire content released thus far, is available for 10 percent off at $16.19. Incidentally -- but probably not coincidentally -- the latest game in the series, Napoleon: Total War, releases February 23.

The latest trailer showcasing Napoleon: Total War takes us for a decidedly multiplayer spin. Whether it's playing through the three multiplayer campaigns (Italy, Egypt and Europe) or one of the historic battle recreations for up to eight players, it's apparent that the quest for RTS enjoyment isn't one you'll have to face alone. There's even drop-in support for the main campaign, allowing one of your friends to take over for any of your ill-fated CPU opponents in a given match. %Gallery-70477%
All-Stars Racing, Napoleon: Total War dated in Europe
Sega has dated two its upcoming games for Europe, including the fanservice-filled racing game Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. The mascot racer will arrive there on February 26, three days after the North American release date. In addition, as tweeted by the game's official account, Napoleon: Total War will be out in on February 23 -- a date that is accurate for both Europe and NA. No word on Napoleon & Historical All-Stars Racing, however. Yakuza 3 remains at an unspecified "March" date for both Europe and North America. Similarly nonspecific are Alpha Protocol, Resonance of Fate, and Infinite Space, which Videogamer reports are all still "spring," with Valkyria Chronicles 2 following in the summer.
'Imperial Edition' of Napoleon: Total War not short on goodies
The "Imperial Edition" of Napoleon Total War includes DLC that may give it a boost over the standard edition. The special edition steps up the presentation with a wall chart displaying the history of the French general's conquests and includes codes for 10 exclusive units. It also comes with the five units found in the Elite Regiment bundle, but that's already included in the standard edition's box set. Actually, thinking about it, the Imperial Edition can get off its high horse, it's not all that fantastic. Availability and pricing for the special edition in the States has yet to be announced.
