We've finally got the details on the final song list to be included in the upcoming sequel, Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades for the DS, and while it's got a lot more modern songs than those proposed classic tracks, it's still a good mix of songs that would be fun to play, we think. Enough of us blabbering on, though. You want the goods! To get at the list of 28 songs you'll be jamming to next month, check out the list past the break.%Gallery-29876%

They answered a lot of questions about the upcoming DS game, including fielding a question or two about the Nintendo DSi. So, head past the break for our write-up and see what the fine folks had to say about the upcoming title!%Gallery-29876%

No, the above clip isn't our primary subject for this week's The DS Life, but it is related and, not to mention, totally awesome.Looking for a more console-authentic experience with Guitar Hero: On Tour, Hack A Day reader Eric Ruckerman modified a wireless Guitar Hero PS2 controller to fit a Nintendo DS and wired the peripheral's buttons into the system. He also added a transmitter to play the game's sound through his home sound system.Pretty slick, but how can he see the notes coming down on the screen? A mirror would help! Anyway, step past the post break for a shot of Eric's setup and a photograph of someone playing Guitar Hero: On Tour with more traditional controls.See also: The DS Life: While My Guitar Grip Gently Weeps

The discs, colored green, red, yellow, and blue, tumble towards her, spilling like candy from a tipped box of Sprees, almost too many of them to catch. Her fingers lift then push, then lift then push over and over again above the corresponding frets, more mechanical than graceful. Imagine a pneumatic robot hand, and you will understand the choreographed taps of her digits; it is as if they learned to dance from footstep diagrams. She does not sing the lyrics or hum the melody or tap her feet with the rhythm, she has attempted to faultlessly play this track enough times that she is long past enjoying the song. Truthfully, she has always loathed "Rock and Roll All Nite" as a shallow anthem. This time, though, Gene Simmons is singing her victory, as she is only a few chords away from a perfect score.

Guitar Hero: On Tour amazed pretty much everybody by becoming an instant hit with customers. So guess what? There's gonna be a sequel! Announced during today's Nintendo's presser and shown on video, Activision will be bringing Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades to our handhelds this fall. What's more, get this: you'll be able to share songs between versions of the game. No further details on this yet, but stay tuned!

Considering Guitar Hero: On Tour's required accessory, pirates without access to the Guitar Grip shouldn't be able to play the game, right? Incorrect! As they did with the Nintendo DS Browser and its Memory Expansion Pak, hackers have developed a workaround making the game playable even without the extra hardware. If you skip to the 1:30 minute mark in the above clip, you'll see Youtube user tinymonkeyt demonstrating his patched copy of On Tour -- instead of using the four-fret controller to hit notes, you can use the directional pad or ABXY buttons. Of course, it's possible for people who legally own the game to apply the patch enabling button controls, but it looks much more awkward than using the Guitar Grip. In other related news, according to the video, tinymonkeyt's mom isn't letting him buy Guitar Hero: On Tour. He is considering purchasing it anyway, however, and will probably "just hide it from her or something." We'll make sure to update you on any new information that comes up for this developing story. %Gallery-19362%[Via GBAtemp]

With Guitar Hero: On Tour allowing you to turn your DS into an axe for shredding, we were wondering if the DS could be turned into other instruments. Like drums, or even a bass to back up that guitar. There's already Taiko Drum Master, which allows you to wail on the touch-screen like you would a Taiko drum, but what about a good piano-based title? How about a karaoke game? What other rhythm-based times would you like to enjoy on your DS? If you could have any major console title in the genre on the DS, which title would that be?%Gallery-19362%

  • Guitar Hero DS bundle is almost perfect

We love our two-tone DSes around these parts, and the model that will ship as part of the Guitar Hero: On Tour bundle is especially delicious. Frankly, silver and black will always be a winning combination. It's a color scheme that cannot fail to look classy and sleek.Alas, whoever designed this model didn't stop at just silver and black, but also decided to slap that ugly transfer onto the DS's upper lid. We appreciate some Guitar Hero branding was probably required for this, but couldn't it have been a little ... subtler? For those of you who are fans, Toys "R" Us currently has this down for a June 29th release on its site, one week after the game itself hits shelves.%Gallery-19362%[Via Go Nintendo]

In the video above, the awesomely named, handheld rhythm game blasphemer Karthik Bala (not to mention, CEO of Vicarious Visions) explains the perks and inner-workings of Guitar Hero: On Tour. If you're still skeptical about the game's appeal, you'll probably be seduced just by how fun it looks. Of course, there are those of us who can't let go of the all-over-the-place track list, but even so, this video interview makes On Tour look mighty tempting. We're definitely turning into believers for a DS Guitar Hero, but how about you?

Wiiz has several new Guitar Hero: On Tour screens, mainly showing off some of the dastardly tricks you'll be able to pull on your human opponents in the game's multiplayer mode. We still think the idea of setting fire to your foe's guitar and forcing them to extinguish it by blowing on the DS's microphone is really silly, but silly works for us!That said, the above trick is easily our current favorite: sending your opponent a fish mid-strum and getting them to autograph it; because signing fish is just so rock and roll. Earlier today, we pointed you in the direction of Joystiq's hands-on impressions of Guitar Hero: On Tour, itself on tour as various websites tried the game out for themselves. One of those sites was ShackNews, which also got to speak to Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala. And we had only just started reading when one of Bala's opening statements got our blood boiling: apparently, Guitar Hero: On Tour was developed to "see if it was even possible to do a really good music rhythm game on a handheld."Altogether now: "WHAAAAAT?!"We can only assume that Bala is totally unaware of the vast treasure trove of rhythm-based awesomeness already available on the DS -- never mind what is still to come, or even on other handhelds.

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/nintendo/Hands_on_Guitar_Hero_On_Tour_DS'; Our cruel overlords at Joystiq recently got their hands on the upcoming DS installment in the Guitar Hero franchise, Guitar Hero: On Tour. Our two immediate thoughts upon loading up this Guitar Hero: On Tour "How To Rock Out" video: Pshaw, like we really need anyone telling us how to rock out Ugh, not this Patrick Fugit wannabe from the first trailer again As it turns out, despite the almost Almost Famous kid, it's a hilarious video very reminiscent of Budweiser's "Real Men of Genius" campaign! And, even when the accompanying singer gets annoying towards the end, the video stays informative with previews of multiplayer attacks -- like swapping their screens or sending shirts for your opponents to autograph. "Now, who do I make it out to? To your mama?"%Gallery-19362%

  • DS Daily: The importance of a track list

When Guitar Hero: On Tour was announced, this blogger was completely on board (assuming, of course, that it would be lefty-friendly). After a partial track list was revealed, though, all interest faded away faster than you could say, "Ick."If you like the track list for the game, that's all well and good, but such things can't ever suit everyone's tastes. That got us to wondering, though, how important track lists are when it comes to purchasing rhythm games. Would you turn down the next Guitar Hero or Rock Band just because the songs weren't up to par, even if you love the gameplay? Or does gameplay trump even the most annoying of tunes? Also, do standards differ for games like EBA and Ouendan?

  • Wacky pick stylus reborn for Guitar Hero: On Tour

We had a pretty good idea of what BD&A's Guitar Hero stylus accessory would look like, but we figured there was always the possibility of a surprise until we could see a picture of the thing. A picture has just been added to the Gamestop listing, and there is no surprise to be found. The DS Lite Guitar Hero Stylus is exactly the same idea as the Jammin' Guitar Pick stylus that Naki released to go with Jam Sessions. It's a stylus attached to a guitar pick. You hold the pick and use the stylus end on the screen, which sounds, at least, a little more guitar-like than just playing the DS with a little stick. The major differences between the two products? The Guitar Hero set has the Guitar Hero logo on the picks, and doesn't come with as many.

During Activision's conference call about their Q4 earnings, Activision dropped a relatively large bomb: in addition to the normal game/controller bundle, Guitar Hero: On Tour will be released as a bundle with both the Guitar Grip and DS Lite hardware. This portable Guitar Hero thing is much bigger than we thought, and this show of confidence on Nintendo's part bears out Todd Greenwald's prediction of big sales. In addition, Activision's Mike Griffith announced a new DS-exclusive Tony Hawk game to be released this year, that will "utilize new technology not yet seen on the DS." Maybe it'll be wheels, so you can ride your DS for real.[Via GameDaily]%Gallery-19362%

  • Guitar Hero DS accessories on the way

    04.11.2008

Someone is willing to gamble a significant amount of money on the idea of a shrunk-down Guitar Hero on the DS. BD&A, who make officially-licensed Nintendo hardware cases and accessories, will produce accessories for Guitar Hero: On Tour, meaning that they think the product is non-wacky enough (or lovably wacky enough) to sell -- and sell other stuff. Two listings at Gamestop hint pretty strongly at their initial products: a $10 DS Lite Guitar Hero Stylus and a $20 DS Lite Guitar Hero Ruby Red Kit, which comprises "a glitter case, 2 system wraps, and a cleaning cloth." We assume they mean a DS Lite/Guitar Grip case that is glittery, and not a case for your glitter. They're saving that for Guitar Hero: Rip Taylor Edition.
