Ah, Valentine's Day. For some, it's a horribly overcommercial holiday created to get people to give out plush animals, cards, and sweets. In Star Wars Galaxies, there are no card companies around, so instead it has the Festival of Love -- a holiday celebrated by small, plush animals who like to give people candy and other treats. Today's holiday scene comes to us from our friend and fellow MMO news nerd at GameReactor, Petter Mårtensson, who writes in: "Hey guys. Despite being a bitter and cynical man, I thought I'd share this screenshot from Star Wars Galaxies. The Ewoks are celebrating their Festival of Love, so I visited one of their villages on Endor to take part in the festivities -- and score myself some nice rewards in the process. It might not be the most Star Warsy of celebrations, but who doesn't love Ewoks (Eh...)? Also, chocolate!" If you've captured a fun screenshot from your daily adventures, we'd love to see it. Bonus points awarded if it's an MMO we don't get to see all that often! Email your images in to us here at oneshots@massively.com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. We'll post it out here on Massively and give you the credit for sending it in! %Gallery-112285%

While our friend and fellow blogger, Petter Mårtensson, undoubtedly plays tons of MMOs, we love it when he sends in screenshots from his travels in Star Wars Galaxies. With a creative community and tons to do, you can never quite tell what's going to happen when you turn around. Take, for example, this entertainer, who decided to set up shop in an interesting location. We'll let Petter tell you more about it: "Usually you find entertainers in the cantinas, but this guy had decided to set up a show at the Mos Eisley starport instead -- giving a warm welcome to all who came to visit that particular hive of scum and villainy." Calling all MMO players: we need your screenshots for One Shots! If you'd like to take part, just snap an interesting screenshot from your favorite game and email it to us here at oneshots@massively.com. Be sure to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. (Guild, server, or anything else of that nature is welcome too.) Yours could be the next one we feature here on Massively! %Gallery-85937%

Let's face it -- when people think of Star Wars Galaxies, they don't often discuss the space aspects of the game. However, in many people's eyes, no Star Wars MMO would ever truly be complete without the ability to jump into your own spaceship and cruise around the galaxy. That's why we're glad to see this often-ignored aspect of Star Wars Galaxies in today's One Shots, courtesy of fellow MMO fiend and writer on both Don't Fear The Mutant and GameReactor, Petter Mårtensson. He writes in to explain the scene: "This is a picture from the outside of my spaceship, patrolling through space above the planet Yavin and its fourth moon -- the same sector that the battle for the first Death Star took place [in]. I'm out hunting for Black Sun pirates, since how are we honest smugglers supposed to make a living with them pestering us all the time? The space portion of SWG is really cool, and I hope that Bioware will add something similar to The Old Republic at some point." We're always on the lookout for new and interesting views in familiar MMOs. If you've snapped something we haven't seen before, why not send that screenshot in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a brief description. We'll post it out here for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit. %Gallery-85937%

With all the new games coming out recently, it's nice to see someone taking on some of the older titles with fresh eyes and seeing what's going on out there. Take, for example, this great Star Wars Galaxies image that our friend Petter M. sent in from his recent travels. He writes in: I'm currently doing some "research" into Star Wars: Galaxies to find out if it deserves its bad reputation. I'm enjoying it so far, exploring and questing my way across Tatooine. At first the planet seems pretty much barren, but there are a lot of things to see hidden away in the desert - all the player houses and cities, if nothing else. Here's a screenshot from a calm oasis which has been affected by the light side of the Force, where I ended up as a part of a Jedi-quest.Have you been exploring parts of your favorite game that we haven't seen here? All games are welcome, all images too! Send us combat, group posed shots, landscapes, you name it, to oneshots AT massively DOT com. Some information like your name, guild, server, and a description of what's going on in the screenshot is awesome too. We'll post it up here and give you credit.%Gallery-9798%

While we work very hard to bring you tons of excellent daily MMO coverage, occasionally something will slip by that we don't catch in time. Thankfully we have some truly excellent readers who send us tips - or occasionally will drop us a screenshot from a celebration! Take, for example, this great image captured by our friend Petter Mårtensson, who writes over on Gamereactor Sweden and is a huge fan of Ryzom. Here's his note: I thought I'd share this lovely picture from the 5th anniversary event which took place in Ryzom [yesterday]. The GMs set up a race in the Zora jungles, but gave it a bit of a twist and shrunk all our Mektoub mounts. (You can see some ordinary sized mounts loitering in the background.) It felt quite silly to race through the jungle on a mount almost smaller than yourself, but it was a lot of fun. The event ended with some giant monster slaying and a party in a secret oasis which normally isn't available to players. Everyone there had a wonderful evening, celebrating the birthday of a great and very different MMO!If you know a game we don't get to look at often - or happen to catch a celebration - we'd love to see some screenshots from it. Just email them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a quick blurb about what's going on. We'll post it out here and give you the love for sending it in. %Gallery-9798%

  • Video interview focuses on emergent gameplay in EVE Online

Part of what's so interesting about video games, and MMOs specifically, is that players often do things the game designers never envisioned. This is especially the case with a sandbox MMO like EVE Online where the developers provide a setting and the players establish their own virtual society of sorts. The topic of emergent gameplay in EVE came up in a recent video interview from the Nordic Game Conference, where our friend Petter Mårtensson from Gamereactor spoke with CCP Games Executive Producer Nathan "Oveur" Richardsson. Their conversation touches upon what the players are doing with wormhole exploration (with around 2500 uncharted solar systems) and CCP's excitement when player alliances clash and create their own stories of conflict. The interview also covers Walking in Stations (avatars), the COSMOS social network that will tie in with EVE, and the company's intent to alter 0.0 space with more tools to build empires and more incentives to get people out there into these lawless regions. Stick with us for a video embed of the Gamereactor interview with CCP's Nathan Richardsson.
