  • This piranha plant keepsake box is ironic

Honestly, we're not sure how anyone could come up with the idea of a piranha plant keepsake box. A keepsake box, ideally, is designed to keep your precious items in a safe place so you'll always know where they are. Piranha plants, on the other hand, are about as far away from safe as you can get. They're man-eating plants, some varieties of which can breathe fire. Still, despite all that, this keepsake box -- designed by Etsy user lostmitten -- still manages to be kind of cute. As of this writing, there is a single one available for purchase at $60. We suppose you could pick it up and store your old high school love notes in there. Just watch your fingers when you open it up.

You know those neighbors you have? The ones with fake deer, flamingos and gnomes all over their yard? This is for them. More specifically, it's to utterly petrify them with abject terror. Have no fear though, for the piranha plant you see above is not real, but rather a sculpture created by one Jaime Margary. We suggest you check out Margary's Flickr account for a closer look at the piece, which is also accompanied by a baby piranha plant (and a dog that is entirely too calm about he whole situation). And yes, the sculpture will be up for sale on eBay soon. Throw on a motion-activated flamethrower and you'll have the nerdiest home security system ever devised. Watch a step-by-step video of the sculpture's creation after the break.

Nintendo super-fan Eve The Demoness has finally completed her dream tattoo, as you can see. Signing her LiveJournal entries as "The Piranha Plant Princess," Eve has had her over-sized chest tattoo colored to showcase her favorite game character -- guest starring a pair of Bob-ombs. There are many schools of thought on how to show off nerd culture love -- slick visuals and creativity is the way Eve decided to go -- but some take the road less traveled.

  • Crochet Mario has a nemesis

The biggest threat facing Crochet Mario on his adventures? Why, that would be Crochet Piranha, lurking silently in its Crochet Green Pipe, waiting for the right moment to emerge, bow its head, and release fiery balls of death. This Piranha Plant is the work of Etsy user michellerheaume, the same crocheter (yes, we had to check that) behind Crochet Mario. At $80, it's a little more affordable than Mario, and arguably even more desirable. Nevertheless, it's still going to take a little more to impress us from now on. Like an entire troupe of crocheted Goombas and Koopas. That is sent to us.[Via Hawty McBloggy]

  • This piranha plant won't bite you

We usually don't feel warm and fuzzy when thinking about piranha plants, but we suppose it can't be helped when one actually is warm and fuzzy. Still, years of training (read: playing Mario games) have conditioned us to keep our fingers away from these beasts, even if they look harmless. This precious pincushion was made by a Toronto artist named FoulFowl, and was wet and needle felted. Since we're domestically challenged, we're not exactly sure what that entails, but it sounds impressive -- at least, we hope so, since the craft is set at $25.[Via Technabob]

We've played through enough Super Mario Bros. games to have learned that no pipe should be approached without caution. After a lifetime of suffering piranha plant attacks, always at the least opportune moments, we've trained ourselves to scrutinize every green tube before hopping over it. We'll sit there for up to two minutes, staking out the pipe to make sure there isn't a hidden fly trap hoping to dupe us with its delayed pattern. Sometimes, we'll even see their eyes poking out, anxious to see why we haven't jumped yet. These guys seem to pop up everywhere! In addition to their appearances in almost every Mario-related title over the past two decades, the piranha plants extended their roots to Tetris Attack and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening! They've also been spotted in last Wednesday's Extra Life comic, illustrated by the always-awesome Scott Johnson. It's a predictable punchline, but no less hilarious because of it. We implore you to check it out!
