Plum is a smart but expensive gadget for the wine-obsessed
Wine has a culture all of its own, steeped in tradition and practices passed down over the years. But wine experts will tell you it's also a science, with precise measurements and conditions required to make that perfect bottle. The new Plum wine fridge stands firmly on the side of science. The $1,499 device can hold only two bottles at once, but Plum's creators say it can make just about every aspect of serving wine better. It's a lofty claim, but after seeing what Plum can do, I'm intrigued.
Engadget took over Austin for a night and here's what happened

A totally retro retailer crashed the party with its unique helmets. Come join your fellow Austin gadget lovers and the brands that excite them for an incredible night. One of the brands you'll get to interact with is Austin's own Chaotic Moon. The production studio will be showing off the untitled follow-up to Shark Punch (which taught us what the ocean's greatest predators looked like inside-out). One player will put on an Oculus Rift and drive a virtual Jeep, while a second uses an iPad to drop bombs on the other's vehicle. Insane, right?
Plum Mobile nicely KIRFs the Galaxy Note: hands-on with the Might
You've likely never heard of Plum Mobile before, and to be honest, neither had we before CTIA. Nonetheless, the smartphone creator is here to make a name for itself in New Orleans, even if it needs to ride on the coattails of other manufacturers. It goes without saying that of all the smartphones on display, it was the Might that immediately caught our eye. From a distance, it appeared to be a rebranded Galaxy Note. We then turned it on and discovered a clock widget that's undeniably reminiscent of HTC. The phone features Android 2.3.6 with an unusual UI that combines features of Sense, TouchWiz and stock Gingerbread, and while it's a bit of a mishmash, it's reasonably intuitive. Plum Mobile stopped short of cloning the Galaxy Note, but the resemblance is uncanny. Sadly, there's no stylus to speak of. The Might features a 650MHz CPU, a 5-inch display and a beefy 2,800mAh battery. Unlike the previous KIRF of the Note that we'd seen, this one features only a 5-megapixel camera, which is accompanied by an LED flash and a front-facing VGA. While none of the specs stand out as amazing -- including the display, which was a bit blurry -- we're told the phone will sell for approximately $180. Most fascinating about the Might, however, is its dual-SIM capabilities. Unfortunately, when we tried to play around with this functionality in the phone's settings, it locked up the phablet and we were unable to proceed. HTC Rhyme clicks its heels, calls O2 its exclusive UK home
Listen up, all you single ladies, err, people with style -- HTC's charm-dongled handset's about to dash across the pond. Launching as an exclusive on UK carrier O2, the 3.7-inch device'll saunter its way into handbags throughout the British isles on October 17th, bringing with it that recently unveiled slew of accessories -- headphones, dock, charm and leather pouch. If you were hoping for some mobile color options to match that endless wardrobe, you're going to be sorely disappointed -- the operator's only offering this phone in its debut shade of plum. It's not the worst hue to be stuck with, but you'll still have to coordinate accordingly -- a no-brainer for this target demo. Right, stylistas?
T-Mobile beautifies Samsung T509 with T509s
Just when we thought the Trace had stolen every last bit of the older T509's thunder, it looks like Samsung and T-Mobile plan to breathe new life into the 10mm-thick candybar by... well, turning it purple. The aptly-named T509s "Plum" brings the same tri-band GSM / EDGE love as its elder sibling, but in a slightly more colorful package -- more importantly, the T509s will rock myFaves support out of the box, and it's available at the same $50 price point (after discounts and contact) as its predecessor.[Thanks, Calum B.]
