If the sight of Hayes Urban's "Pongle" concept makes you shudder (in a good way), then you probably came of age during that 'golden era' of gaming, innocently paddling away your adolescence. Pong, Breakout, Warlords, Tempest ... all classics deserving of a lil' 21st century love, no? But today's youth, being raised on murder sims -- having little knowledge of what purity came before -- would hardly lend impetus to the rightful resurgence. Alas, Pongle rests in too small of a niche to ever justify a mass-production birth. A shame. While the probability of such a controller making its way onto retail shelves and eventually into your hands are so slim as to be immeasurable, we still think such a genius design deserves the prestige of being linked by Wii Fanboy (which means, basically, our mom will see it). With a built-in speaker and design that takes us back to the days of old, the Pongle (that's what they're calling it) definitely beats out some of the other options available to Wii owners. • "Pongle" paddle controller concept for Wii

It may not throw as much caution to the wind as the Nintendo Star-mote we spotted a couple of months back, but this so-called "Pongle" Wii controller concept from Hayes Urban eschews its fair share of modern video game conventions nonetheless, hearkening back to simpler video gaming days instead. It's not all old school, however, with an integrated gyro adding some motion sensing to the standard twist and turn action, and a built-in speaker providing a "more immersive experience." Of course, the chances of it ever actually turning up in a form we can get our hands on are pretty slim, which is all the more saddening given our sudden craving for a game of Breakout.
