PosiMotion certainly announced this one well enough in advance (all the way back in December), but it looks like its Helix gaming grip for the iPhone and iPod touch is now finally available, and at Best Buy no less. In case your memory needs to be jogged a bit, this $20 contraption promises to be ideal for "virtually any game," and let you use your iPhone or iPod touch in either portrait or landscape mode -- it'll also keep your headphones from getting tangled up for good measure. G-Fi puts GPS on your first gen iPhone or iPod touch, at quite a cost
I love my iPhone, but I have to say that there is one little thing wrong with it: it's a first generation. That means that I can't quite play all of the games, or record video, or do all of the cool GPS things you kids can do nowadays. It's not a really bad thing -- I can still do a good 99% of the things that a 3GS can do, and I get plenty of usage out of mine anyway -- but it is kind of a pain waiting for my Google maps to update over Edge, or not having turn-by-turn directions when I want them. Fortunately, there are already ways to get GPS going on my 1st gen, and here's another one. The G-Fi is a little box that will add GPS to your first generation iPhone or iPod touch. Unfortunately, this one is probably a little too hardcore for me -- it creates a mobile wireless point that will spin out GPS locations to any number of devices in the area, up to 200 total. The catch: it requires a specific app called Navmii, selling in the App Store now for $33. That's in addition to the little box itself, which is $100. Unfortunately, while this might work for a large number of roaming devices, it's way more than I need. A single unit add-on like the Magellan kit works with any app that uses GPS and will probably cost less, too. But if this one floats your boat (maybe you have a fleet of bounty hunters rocking 1st gen iPhones who need GPS to track down crooks together?), you can pick it up right now.

Then perhaps PosiMotion's recently announced Helix gaming grip will be more to your liking -- it does promise to be ideal for "virtually any game," after all. To that end, the Helix is able to accommodate your iPhone or iPod touch in either portrait or landscape mode, and it boasts a "grip-enhancing" soft-touch coating to keep it from slipping from your hands during particularly intense gaming sessions. Still no firm word on a release date just yet, but PosiMotion will gladly take your $20 now and deliver one to you sometime in the Spring.
PosiMotion unveils unfortunately-named iPhone app
PosiMotion is planning a suite of applications for the iPhone to assist in everything from navigation to a social network for iPhone users. Its flagship product, hilariously named G-Spot (ask your parents), features a compass and tool to determine your latitude and longitude using the iPhone 3G's built-in GPS antenna. According to the press release, you will be able to find G-Spot at the App Store on July 11 "for an affordable $1.99." Don't forget to visit the G-Spot website, where you can download high-resolution G-Spot pictures, and get more G-Spot information. (Sorry. Couldn't resist. I'll stop now.) Anywho, PosiMotion's other products include G-Park, which helps you find your car in large parking lots with step-by-step directions back to your vehicle. G-Fi is a small hardware device touted as the "world's first" mobile GPS network router, adding GPS capability to any nearby WiFi-enabled device. G-Life, which is vaporware thus far, will be a social networking application for iPhone users with an undefined feature set. The company will also publish a series of games. Curiously, the company is also featuring G-Minds, a "publishing program" that has been "pre-certified by Apple to test applications and distribute them on Apple's App Store." It sounds like a sort of consignment program for developers not as-yet accepted into the App Store program. Thanks, Yoli!
PosiMotion's G-Fi: another WiFi GPS accessory for the iPhone
Although we just saw the Nav N Go / Gomite prototype demonstrated yesterday, a company called PosiMotion claims that it has the "world's first wireless GPS" accessory for the iPhone. To prove it, they've launched a two-page website. Fishing for some of that iFund dough are we boys? Anyway, according to the site the G-Fi WiFi GPS receiver will support the iPhone and iPod touch and is expected to ship this summer. Really though, how much confidence will VCs have in an upstart still running on the ol' Cingular network?
