If your childhood was anything like mine, you spent a good deal of time wishing you could fly, or move stuff with your mind, or that you had Wolverine claws. My summers spent at the public pool weren't full of swimming so much as they were full of me splashing water and yelling "Hadouken!" a whole bunch. I tell you this because PowerUp Heroes immediately took me right back to those times, allowing me to live out my fantasies of being a superhero in a more tangible and, thanksfully, more private way. %Gallery-121020%

This time last year, we all waited with bated breath for the launch of Microsoft's Kinect, a new peripheral for the Xbox 360 that promised to turn you into the controller. Some of us feared a freezing in Carbonite like Han Solo, only to be melted down into our core components to be physically constructed into plastic controllers. The more sane anticipated good times flailing and jumping around in front of the TV. Ubisoft expected a hit and it was dead-on. Microsoft ended up selling 10 million Kinects fairly quickly and Ubisoft established itself as the top third-party publisher on Kinect. As you can imagine, this made senior VP of sales and marketing at Ubisoft, Tony Key, very happy. Nearly a year later, Ubisoft is preparing nine new Kinect titles. The focus this time around is catering to the mainstream audience Ubisoft sees as Kinect's base -- a variety of games that will leverage brands and experiences Ubisoft sees as enjoyable for just about everyone.

Ubisoft has unveiled a new trailer for PowerUp Heroes, its upcoming Kinect fighter. Though it might not feature the coolest stock room ever, it does have much more gameplay than the debut trailer released earlier this year. The company also announced that new copies of PowerUp Heroes will include a comic book that "unveils the secret origins of the main character, Volta." And here we were thinking that players were supposed to be the main character. You know, what with the Kinect and all. %Gallery-130780%

Ubisoft is finally acknowledging the development of technology to give your Xbox 360 avatar superpowers. This top-secret program, called PowerUP Heroes, will be available to the public around the world in June, turning Kinect-enabled Xbox 360s into a battleground for personal simulacra. Players infuse their "super suits" with powers, and then face off in Kinect-controlled fights, in order to earn the right to take their opponent's suit, leaving them powerless and nude. Some of the 20 suits include the Necromancer, which gives your Avatar dominion over a skeleton army, and the Mentalist, which gives your Avatar the power to " break into their enemy's mind."%Gallery-121020%

After the dismal Fighters Uncaged, the words "Ubisoft," "Kinect" and "fighting" have not been uttered in the same sentence here at the 'Stiq, for fear of summoning a sequel to the game. We must now use them, though, to describe what Ubisoft has -- perhaps unintentionally -- revealed via its web store: a Kinect fighting game called PowerUP Heroes coming "summer 2011." According to the description provided, the title will let players transform their Xbox 360 Avatars into superheroes, acquiring the abilities of defeated foes by taking their "super suits," Mega Man style. Mentioned are a necromancer suit that summons skeletons and a mentalist getup that can "break into your enemy's mind." The listing also includes a price: $50, so we're talking a full retail title here. We're contacting Ubisoft to find out what more we can about this Kinect fighting game. Gah -- we did it again!
