To remind press about the upcoming release of Final Fight: Double Impact, and to fill all but a few lucky people with painful jealousy, Capcom is sending out these delightful press kits, inside (what else) a breakaway barrel. Packed within that powerup distribution vessel is an arcade token with images from both Final Fight and Magic Sword, a copy of the soundtrack on cassette(!), "Ninja vs. Bear" and "Haggar for Mayor" badges, a reversible t-shirt with one of the two games on each side, and a can of pink hair color spray, in honor of Final Fight's Poison. Non-press members will have an opportunity to get one of these from Capcom's online store, but you'll have to be vigilant! In the meantime, see the press kit unbarreled after the break, thanks to Ars Technica. Update: new images at Capcom-Unity (and above).

Do you worry about the onset of grotesque mutations caused by the Progenitor Virus? Sure, we all do. That's why it's important to have a Tricell Progenitor Virus Detection Kit in your home. These kits, available now from the Capcom Store, also provide suitable, though temporary, treatment for the condition known as "Not Having Enough Ridiculous Swag in Your House." Previous offers of life-saving swag from Capcom ran out of stock quickly, providing respite to only a few sufferers of the endless hunger for game-related chotchkes. And since Resident Evil 5 has turned out to be kind of popular, we expect supplies to run out for this item soon.[Via Capcom Unity]

Remember the Mega Man 9 press kit? Of course you do -- a better question may be "Have you been able to drive the Mega Man 9 press kit out of your thoughts for even a single, restful second?" Well, if you're freaking out about this item, you should take your nervous energy and put it to good use on Capcom's Mega Man forum. The Capcom Unity staffers are picking worthy fans and handing them redemption codes for free press kits. The item is apparently hidden in the store somewhere, priced exorbitantly, but we haven't been able to find it. If you are in the mood to spend money on one of these, there's always eBay.

Publishers don't normally show off glamour shots of their press asset discs, but such discs are rarely packaged like the one for Mega Man 9 is. The disc comes packaged in a reproduction NES cartridge, which comes with the Mega Man 9 "boxart" -- now on a real box. The back of the box even features the "Captain Commando" character (before he was redesigned for the SNES/arcade game) found on Capcom's early NES games like Gun.Smoke and Trojan -- and Mega Man, obviously. The details are what make the whole thing perfect.Good news for non-press types: Capcom is considering selling a limited quantity of 200 or so online! In addition, the Mega Man 9 shirts will be available for sale soon. Get your money ready! Head past the break to see the terrible secret of the NES cartridge.%Gallery-30253%

  • How much wood would a woodchuck chuck to make a bunch of press kits?

%Gallery-14791%In the press room at Macworld there was a little foyer with alphabetized buckets where you could pick up press kits from the various vendors. This is an exercise in wastefulness, as many of the press kits are glossy folders filled with photocopies and CD's.Now, I realize the coordination required to put all this on a single DVD or USB drive would be immense, so I'm not blaming Macworld/IDG here, but surely there's got to be a better way. I've made a gallery of the leftover press releases, CD's and cases I was left with-- and I didn't even take everything! I also had to discard all the covering folders for what I did grab, because I didn't want to pay $60 extra for the additional weight in my luggage (no kidding, it was like an extra 10 lbs. of junk). Sadly, that stuff got trashed in my hotel room, and I'm sure it didn't get recycled. Maybe next year the dream of a "paperless" Macworld can be realized...
