With the promise of upcoming Tech 3 ships, so many EVE Online players just can't wait for Apocrypha to come out. Packed with all manner of new features for EVE players to look forward to, it's going to prove to be a lot of fun. Today's one Shots comes to us from Farrellus who has been so kind as to report back from the test servers for us, with some images of the new ships players can look forward to soon. He writes in: Here's a strategic cruiser I put together on the test server. It's one variation of a Gallente Proteus. Have you got some beta (non-NDA-breaking, please) or test server screenshots you'd like to send in? We love to hear from our front-line 'reporters' who send in images of some of the cool things coming to MMOs. If you'd like to join our regulars, just email your screenshots of hot newness to us at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the game it's from, and a quick note about what we're seeing. We'll post it here and give you the credit for showing it off!%Gallery-9798%

  • Scientists develop piezoelectric motor for medical microbots

Researchers at Monash University in Australia have developed a piezoelectric motor that's 0.25 mm wide, which they claim is 70% smaller than the smallest design out there. The Proteus motor, named after Fantastic Voyage's microscopic vessel, uses an E. coli-like flagellum to swim through the bloodstream. The goal is to one day have it power microbots that'll enter the body by injection to take photos, deliver medicine and eventually do surgery. According to lead scientist James Friend, escape would come from it returning to the point of entry or, should something break down, via a micro-catheter -- no tear ducts necessary this time.[Via Yahoo! After almost 8 years in production, the open-source instant messaging application Fire has come to an end. Pre-dating even iChat, Fire was the first multi-protocol client on the platform, and has long had a dedicated user base. The loss of multiple key members of the development team and a reliance on legacy frameworks which were no longer being updated caused key members of the development team to reconsider their future plans and cease active development. Fortunately for fans of the software, two of Fire's developers have joined the Adium team, and the two applications are already integrating features. Users switching from Fire to Adium can choose to have all of their contacts, logs, away messages, and groups transferred to the new software.
