We don't even know where to begin with this one. So far this year we've had a young cancer patient's PSP stolen and then a wrestler's PSP stolen, but now we can add an illegal drug user's PSP to the list. One Steven Priddey, was convicted of stealing a PSP from Cash Concepts in Worcester, England. Here's how the story goes -- last year, Priddey claims he approached an employee of Cash Concepts, Richard Shurmer, with cannabis in exchange for permission to take a PSP from the store. Shurmer, on the other hand, claims Priddey simply stole from the shop. Shurmer noticed that the PSP was missing, decided to check his security cameras and saw Priddey had taken the PSP by hiding it in the waistband of his pants. Upon questioning, Shurmer admitted that he purchased cannabis from Priddey on two occassions, but at no point did he give permission for Priddey to take anything from the shop. Eventually Priddey was found guilty of theft because Shurmer is not the proprietor of the shop, and therefore unable to give out a PSP that does not belong to him. Priddey's lawyer claims he has since given up the drug as it affected his ability to think clearly. Priddey was sentenced to probation service for 12 months and ordered to pay £450 (about $698 US) costs and £65 (about $100 US) compensation.

Those thieves who make their living stealing PSPs are either getting even less smart or more desperate. Either way, this latest story of attempted PSP, er, reallocation should give everyone a slight grin. Elijah Burke, or the Black Pope as he may be known in the world of wrestling (forgive us if we got that wrong -- our wrestling knowledge is on the same level as a turtle), wrote up his experience in a blog about a 14-year-old kid that tried to steal from him on a plane. What happened essentially was this: Burke took his PSP out of his bag and placed it on a seat rest betwixt him and the kid and promptly fell asleep (the kid was sleeping too). When he woke up, it was gone. He made a threat which we're sure almost melted the kid's mind, then the wannabe-thief removed the lifted PSP from his bag and returned it. Note to all: don't be that dumb. It's obvious you took it. Another note: don't steal from people much, much bigger than you.[Thanks, Joseph B.!]

We've often reported of theft of people's PSP's and PS3's. Now we finally get to report on some vigilante justice -- a woman, former boxer Derdre Rodriguez, caught a burglar trying to get her PlayStation 3 and PSP out of her house. She did what anyone with love for video games would: she grabbed an ice chipper and went after the burglar. After what we can applaud as a complete success, she managed to protect her beloved goods. You can watch the interview with the woman over at CNN. We hope to hear more stories of PS3 and PSP protection in the future. This is awesome.

What is the world coming to? This next story of PSP theft is a true tearjerker. Kyle Springs, a seven year old cancer patient on his way to a chemotherapy appointment in Dallas gets his PSP stolen. Not only that, but his school homework, medicine, and medical records were also taken. Worst of all, it happened the day before his birthday. Tragic. There is some good news, however. Officers from the Dallas Police Department presented Kyle with a new PSP, and also raised more than $1,000 to pay for the lost medication. The PSP was important to Kyle; his mother stated that videogames helped alleviate the pain her son's condition inflicted. While Kyle's story is heartbreaking, it does raise some valid questions. Why is PSP theft seemingly on the rise? And most of all, is there really anything we can do to stop it?

  • More PSP theft! Dude, get your own, indeed

We almost think people read about PSP thefts on this site, get excited, and want their time in the spotlight. Let us say it again: we do not condone PSP theft and we will mock you if you do it. Like this latest entry in the ongoing saga of "steal the PSP from someone younger than you". A 13-year-old was at GameStop watching his brother play on the Wii the store has on display when three teenagers came up and started interrogating the kid about his limited edition Darth Vader PSP, like whether or not it had any movies on it. The kid said no, took it out to check the time (apparently watches and cell phones don't work anymore ... not that a 13-year-old has any real reason to own a cell phone), and it was snatched away. Did it really take three teens to ask a kid a question and steal a PSP? Only if they're cowards who need confirmation of their awesomeness from each other. Except they're not awesome; they're idiots.

  • More PSP theft: 9 year old girl mugged for handheld

We almost feel like we've heard this story before. It seems as if the PSP is growing more and more popular in the teenage theft market. This time, we got wind of a 9 year old girl walking with some friends, carrying her beloved PSP with her. Sounds like a wonderful day in the park, yeah? Until the 16-18 year old male approaches the girl, kicks her in the leg, steals her PSP, and dashes off into the distance. That really is pathetic, though. She's 9. The kick was entirely unnecessary -- unless the guy really thought he couldn't overpower her. Foolish criminals.[via Kotaku, via GayGamer]
