What's coming to Netflix in December: 'The Witcher' and 'Lost in Space'
With cold weather creeping in and many of us wanting little to do with the outdoors, Netflix has plenty of new options for you to watch in December, including several holiday shows and movies. To help you figure out what you might want to check out after curling up on the couch with some cocoa, it's released its jam-packed schedule for next month.
Pulp Fiction looks like a pretty #%&@ good arcade game
Pulp Fiction was never translated into video game format, but if it had been, maybe it would have looked something like what the folks over at CineFix have created. And boy, does it look like a doosy; there's street brawl beat-em-up stages, a car-cleaning button-mashing mini-game, a drug administration mini-game and even a Dance Dance Revolution knock-off stage. A disclaimer for potential viewers: there's no dialogue - so none of that signature cussing that makes a Tarantino film so special - and since the 8-bit version follows the plot of the movie, there's some spoilers regarding who lives and dies. Spoilers: A lot of people.
Tarantino XX Blu-ray set brings 20 years of Quentin, eight movies and ten discs home November 20th
If you dig Quentin Tarantino flicks, an eight movie, 10-disc Blu-ray boxed set is on the way that will probably pique your interest. Lionsgate and Miramax are collaborating on the Tarantino XX set, which captures 20 years of the filmmaker's career and includes Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Kill Bill Vol. 2, Death Proof and Inglourious Basterds. Additionally, there's special collectible packaging and artwork (shown after the break, along with the press release and full list of specs) and the two extra discs are filled with five hours of all new bonus interviews, retrospectives and the like. It seems unlikely to answer the mystery of what was in Marcellus Wallace's briefcase, but it will be available November 20th with an MSRP of $119.99, although Amazon is currently listing it at $83.97.
Miramax arrives on Lovefilm to let you relive the golden age of Weinsteins
Miramax has reached a deal with Lovefilm to get its back-catalog of award-winning films available on-demand in the UK and Germany. It's an unsurprising move given the company has similar deals in place with Netflix and Hulu to let you watch classics like Pulp Fiction, Clerks and Trainspotting whenever the urge takes you. While there was no official confirmation of a launch window, a cursory check of our own account reveals that some of the titles (including Kill Bill) are already popping up on the instant service.
Must See HDTV (October 3rd - 9th)
How can we still have fall premieres left? After the onslaught of the last two weeks it seems there's still a few to go, as old standbys like House join fresh faces like American Horror Story and Penn & Teller Tell a Lie on the premiere list. It's also a big week for Blu-ray discs, as seen above with a couple of classics showing up, some Disney favorites returning for the first time and special treats like Daft Punk's Interstella 5555 and Planet Earth Special Edition. Look below for the highlights this week, followed after the break by our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and videogames. Pulp Fiction After waiting far too long for Quentin Tarantino's hit movie to debut on Blu-ray we got an early look at this one and it's worth the wait. Both the picture and audio quality are impressive, while we didn't have a copy of the imported version to compare them to the picture is clean and artifact free, while the 5.1 soundtrack gives equal time to the witty dialogue and occasional action. There's no audio commentary present, but there is about an hour or so of new HD extras included for the fans. If you've somehow avoided seeing this movie so far we don't even know what to say to you, but this is the best way to watch since it debuted in 1994. ($15.99 on Amazon, October 4th) House Everyone's favorite jerk of a doctor returns for an eighth and possibly final season tonight. With Cuddy gone and Dr. Gregory House locked in jail we're wondering if it can keep the medical procedural formula fresh for another year, but so far it's held up well despite cast rotations and the so often under-appreciated main-character-loses-his-mind plot twist. Don't have enough reasons to watch? Jaleel White is guest starring in tonight's season premiere episode, so there you go. (October 3rd, Fox, 9PM) The League If you've listened to our podcast or are participating in either of the official Engadget HD leagues, then you already know we're all in when it comes to fantasy football. The League returns this week for a third season and captures all of the insanity that happens when people stop being friends and start getting real... pretend. Despite its very intense focus on a group of friends and their over the top competition, as well as guest appearances by NFL stars, there's enough comedy there to keep watching whether you're watching tonight's game hoping a backup RB gets 75 yards and a touchdown or not. Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown Blu-ray discs get release dates (again)
Yes, we've been here before, but with Miramax back on its feet and under a new distribution deal with Lionsgate we're pretty sure these new October 4 release dates for Quentin Tarantino classics Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown on Blu-ray will stick. Reportedly, Jackie Brown will be a Walmart exclusive but other than that no details are known just yet. We'll keep our eyes out for official information, but for now you can check out the trailers again after the break.
Hulu, Miramax deal means Netflix, Hulu Plus both add Pulp Fiction and more starting today
According to a blog post and press release (after the break) Hulu is bringing Miramax films to its free and paid Hulu Plus services. This is also the same day the Miramax deal kicks in for Netflix, so both just added notable movies including Clerks, Swingers, Basquiat, The Crow and Reservoir Dogs. Miramax movies on Hulu Plus are presented ad-free and in HD, just like on Netflix Watch Instantly, and both appear to have the same selection available, although one negative side effect of parity is that neither has optional closed captions on streaming for any of them. The only difference so far? Soon, Hulu will offer a rotation of 15 Miramax movies per month through Hulu.com for ad-supported viewing. While we're sure some will wait for Miramax to work through its Blu-ray release backlog (CEO Mike Lang is on it, although we still don't have a date for Pulp Fiction) it's good to suddenly see a catalog that had been locked away due to the studio's pending sale suddenly become available through so many outlets.
Lionsgate, Studiocanal to distribute Miramax movies, Pulp Fiction Blu-ray coming in June
Lionsgate and Studiocanal have signed a deal with Miramax to distribute its library of movies around the world, with Lionsgate handling things in the US while Studiocanal takes over the UK and Europe. Most specifically, Miramax CEO Mike Lang reveals in a blog posting that the first three Scream movies will be rereleased when Scream 4 comes to theaters in April, and the long awaited Pulp Fiction Blu-ray will finally be released in the US in June. All the rest of the details are in the press release after the break, check the blog post for more of his thoughts on DVD extras and the future of digital delivery -- Ultraviolet isn't mentioned by name, but clearly he thinks the digital locker concept is the future of video.
New Miramax boss makes releasing Pulp Fiction on Blu-ray a priority
Disney's sale of Miramax put high definition releases of much of the catalog on hold, so while a few snagged imported versions from Poland most US buyers have been without a copy of Pulp Fiction on Blu-ray. According to Forbes, getting the disc out and on shelves is among new CEO Mike Lang's first priorities. we thought were close back in 2009 but that didn't pan out, now that the $663 million sale has gone through, it seems increasingly likely that the gimp will return in 2011.
The Tattered Notebook: Harsh language(s)
So a few days ago I posted an image of Jules Winnfield (the incomparable Samuel L. Jackson) doing his thing atop the early-morning discussion-starting post that we here at Massively like to refer to as The Daily Grind. Little did I know that said image would set my mind to quoting Pulp Fiction for the better part of a week, and I remembered why Quentin Tarantino's 1994 crime epic is a marvel of snappy dialogue and the clever use of language. Before this edition of The Tattered Notebook turns into an impromptu film review (or an ode to four-letter words), allow me to segue as smoothly as possible into my point, which is that language can also have a profoundly nifty effect on MMORPGs if properly utilized. EverQuest II provides a few examples of what I'm talking about, so turn the page for a bit of an explanation.
Exploring (the rest of) Eberron
By the time you read this, I'll be scampering about GenCon in Indianapolis, thick in the middle of four days of gaming and geekery. Don't weep for me, for I am already gone! One of my hopes for this weekend is to reconnect with pen-and-paper RPGs, a part of my gaming life that has almost withered into nothingness. That got me thinking about Eberron -- the D&D campaign in which DDO is set. You don't hear DDO players fussing about it so much any more (people either made their peace with it or moved on), but way back when, the Eberron setting was a fairly controversial choice for Turbine to make. After all, there are dozens upon dozens of campaign settings, including some (like Forgotten Realms or Dragonlance) that most people associate with the franchise. Eberron, on the other hand, was a relatively wet-behind-the-ears upstart with a quirky setting that can best be described as "Indiana Jones meets steampunk meets flashy, practical magic." Personally, I've grown to like the campaign, and I want to take a look at how the pen-and-paper version was constructed, how the Eberron setting shines in DDO, and how Turbine could be using it more.
WoW Moviewatch: Pulp Fiction trailer - WoW style
This is the first machinima attempt by Mindless Pop Productions. It's a simple interpretation of the Pup Fiction trailer in a World of Warcraft style. Very little of the trailer's soundtrack or voices have been changed at all, so it's just layering those sounds over in-game graphics. What the Pulp Fiction trailer - World of Warcraft style video does very well, however, is match the original characters to WoW parallels. While the animation itself can be a little jumpy, the characters all look spot-on appropriate and absolutely like their Tarantino counterparts. Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown get Blu-ray release dates
Put down that import order form Tarantino & Samuel L. Jackson fans, Disney/Miramax has apparently set a date for Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, with both coming to Blu-ray August 4. High-Def Digest notes they're tagged special editions, so in lieu of any official information about specs, extra features or price, we still expect only the best fo these long awaited flicks.

What still ain't no country we ever heard of, and we're still trying to find out if they speak English in What. The creative guys at Bonesaw Productions have taken Team Fortress 2 and mashed it up with the classic Tarantino flick, Pulp Fiction. The scene on display here, reenacted using Team Fortress 2 assets, stars the voice talent of Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Whaley, who was in pretty much every movie made in the early-to-mid '90s. Also, it's a little NSFW for excessive use of the word, "What." You know, among other words.
