Aside from the top five, there are also twenty honorable mentions with this year's contest, and all have been put together in a gallery for viewing. Given that it's actually Hallowe'en today, this is an incredibly appropriate piece to be doing rather well on Reddit. It's an amazing pumpkin carving of a Cloud Serpent, that's caught the attention of many Blizzard people, and with good reason! It might not be totally clear unless you look at the picture at the bottom right of the header, then progress back through them, but the detail on this is just stunning. I am blown away by the pumpkin carving that people do every year, and this one really takes the cake. The use of varying depths of carving to create the detail of the scales, the faded-out saddle, and the bright glow of the eyes and the fire the dragon is breathing just blow me away -- it's all I can do to cut two eyes and a mouth! You should definitely hit up the Imgur to see the rest of the pumpkin, even the less interesting sides are amazing. And if remarkable pumpkin carving is your thing, Blizzard's contest is a must-see. Some of the things people create just blow my mind. And whoever carved this Cloud Serpent pumpkin should definitely enter the contest!

Are you handy with the tools necessary to create a magical masterpiece of pumpkin art? Blizzard has just announced its annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest for 2013. Aspiring entrants need only carve a Blizzard-themed pumpkin from any of its licenses, including Warcraft, Diablo, or StarCraft, and then take a photo of said pumpkin to submit for entry. Pumpkins must be lit up by a candle or other light source, although you can also submit a photo of the unlit pumpkin if you wish. Five winners will be chosen from all entries, and the winners will each receive a copy of Diablo III: Book of Tyrael, the latest in Diablo lore compendiums. If you're not sure on just what kind of cool design to carve, you can always check out last year's winners for inspiration. Head to Blizzard's official contest page to submit your entry -- you have until October 29 to get it sent in. For more information, take a look at Blizzard's official rules for the contest. Good luck to all who enter -- I wonder if we'll see any Hearthstone-related entries!

Hallow's End is almost upon us, and Blizzard has once again announced their annual pumpkin carving contest. This is always a hoot -- I was only ever able to do the usual jack-o-lantern (once I did a Batman symbol, but it never really worked out), but there are always some real professionals in the mix on these contests, as you can see in the gallery below. Basically, carve a pumpkin featuring something Blizzard-related, showing "high levels of originality, craftsmanship, and possibly humor," light it up with a candle or other source, and then submit a picture over on the site by two weeks from today, Wednesday, October 28th.And some nice prizes this year: the top five submissions will all pick up a nice 32gb iPod touch, apparently supplied by none other than Apple (and of course you'll be able to run those Blizzard mobile apps if you win). Good luck to everyone who enters -- go grab your knife and the biggest "gourd-like squash" you can find and get to carving!%Gallery-75579%

  • Blizzard's 2008 pumpkin carving contest winners announced

Blizzard's annual pumpkin carving contest has come to a close and the winners have been announced. I gotta say, some of them look incredible. The sheer amount of detail these people are able to pack into a pumpkin is pretty mind blowing. Like I mentioned when we displayed the Ghostcrawler pumpkin here, I'm barely capable of cutting big triangle eyes. My oafish hands would scream in horror if someone asked me to do something like these carvings. I wonder if the people who did these carvings are the sort that do it professionally for various holiday events. If not, they should be.The winners of the contest were each awarded a Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speaker System. That rig retails for about $200, so that's not a bad deal at all. Since I don't even currently own speakers and use a pair of $15 headphones, I'm a little jealous. Maybe I'll go out and buy some speakers soon. Not a $200 set, but speakers nonetheless.

  • Vote on Joystiq's Halloween pumpkin finalists

Our beloved parent blog, Joystiq, is running a videogame-themed pumpkin carving contest. The finalists have been chosen and now it's time to vote. Honestly, I don't know how to single out one winner. The Illidan carving is so intricate, but the other finalists are just as clever and creative. It amazes me what people can do with a gourd and a teeny, tiny serrated pen knife. I tried to carve The Little Mermaid into a pumpkin for my daughter last week and it turned out more like Quasimodo. Then the mold set in and Ariel suddenly had a beard. All, all bad.Head on over to Joystiq to see all the eye-popping finalist and vote on your favorite design.

A hearty Halloween hello to all the fanboys who put their squash fruit skills to the test in our 1st Annual Xbox 360 Fanboy Pumpkin Carving Contest. Some of you obviously know how to carve pumpkins. Richard and I have narrowed down the entries to 10 finalists based on carving skill and originality, which we now present to our readership for a vote. The owner of the top Xbox-O-Lantern will receive a copy of Gears of War courtesy of RockMeTV with slightly less cool prizes for 2nd and 3rd place (XBL Unplugged Vol. 1 and UMK3 respectively). The ballot will close at midnight tonight, with any ties decided by a random drawing, so pick your favorite. This isn't Chicago, so please vote only once. We'll be plugging this post throughout the day to ensure as many participants as possible besides your Mom and friends. Pics are listed after the break in no particular order.
