Although Capcom had previously responded to the flack it's received for the $5 charge on the Resident Evil 5 "Versus" DLC, a VP for the publisher has had enough with all the complaining and is calling "BS." Christian Svensson, VP of strategic planning and business development, explains on the company forums that people are getting plenty of bang for their $60 and says that if people don't see the value in the secondary offering that, "the choice is simple, don't purchase it."Svensson goes on to explain that paid DLC at Capcom has its own budget, with its own profit and loss analysis. He emphasizes that without this method, the Versus content wouldn't exist in the first place, because it "did not fit within the production budget of the base product." He continues that to hit the sweet spot of DLC releasing within 3 to 6 weeks of initial launch that development on these products starts before the actual product hits shelves.Although the whole situation definitely has some debatable points, Svensson certainly hit the nail on the head when he said if consumers don't agree with what Capcom did: Don't buy the product.[Via Kotaku]

A Capcom Europe publicity stunt for Resident Evil 5 took an unexpected turn when organizers lost some fairly realistic-looking (and quite) fake severed limbs. Gamezine reports the publisher held a competition in London earlier today, where participants were asked to find bloody body parts hidden around the city (the winner received a trip for two to Africa). Things went a tiny bit awry when not all the appendages were discovered by the limb hunters -- and were no longer found in the organizer's designated locations.Capcom is asking people who find the limbs to return or dispose of them in a "careful manner." For "added gore," chicken livers were used to make the parts more realistic and could be harmful due to bacteria -- if you found a severed appendage in London, don't eat it. Although residents did complain to police during the competition, no charges were made. We're not even going to discuss what would have gone down if this stunt had been attempted in Manhattan.

  • Pinpoint exactly when Resident Evil's Chris Redfield started taking steroids

Having watched GameTrailers' video on the evolution of Chris Redfield through the Resident Evil series, it becomes quite clear that he began his steroid abuse sometime after the events of Code: Veronica ... maybe Umbrella Chronicles. We understand the stresses of holding back the zombie apocalypse may have taken its toll on Redfield, but there's no need for him to hit the juice. Although we can't verify his steroid use from the bulging biceps and mountainous veins he has in Resident Evil 5, we're sure a testicular exam and a bacne (back acne) check could confirm our suspicions. Chris, we're only calling you out in public because we want you to get better, brother. See you later this week -- if Avon doesn't kill us all first. Check out the full Chris Redfield evolution video after the break.%Gallery-5253%

Considering Resident Evil 5 revolves around the effects of a virus, it's interesting that Capcom will partner up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive for the game on launch day in Los Angeles. Those looking to participate can head on over to the World of Wonder Gallery, 6650 Hollywood Blvd, LA between 11AM-5PM on March 13. Donators of the life juice will receive RE5 "limited edition items created specifically for this event." These include: posters, bumper stickers, buttons and a chance to win the game or a red RE5 Xbox 360 console. If it's your first time donating, it's best to check the regulations -- those with Las Plagas need not attend.

It appears that Resident Evil producer Jun Takeuchi is ready to hit the reset button for the next game in the series. Speaking with 1UP, Takeuchi believes that a reboot is possible for Resident Evil 6. No further details were given, so it's unclear whether he means RE3 to RE4 type change, or something bigger. In our interview with Takeuchi, we did ask what the plans are for RE6. The producer told us that Capcom is simply in the "thinking about it stage" of development. However, he does believe that if too much time goes by between this installment and the next, that people lose expectation. Probably not a good idea to wait too long between franchise installments, though, as other games can fill people's heads with new expectations. [Image]

Resident Evil 5 Producer Jun Takeuchi tells MTV Multiplayer that the demo has infected over four million consoles worldwide. Capcom previously revealed the demo was downloaded 1.8 million times during its first week on Xbox 360, but the latest figure incorporates the PS3 numbers and downloads in the month since.Takeuchi also took a moment to talk about concerns brought up by those who played the demo. He states that the staggered couch co-op split-screen was designed to prevent the lead characters from standing in "one column." He continues that people will understand the controls better once they have the full game, and he says they'll respond if any racism issues come up at a later date. RE5 finally shambles onto consoles next month.%Gallery-5253%
