  • Another Week in Japan: Hardware and software numbers 7/7-7/13

We're kind of glad to see Persona 4 blow away the competition in software, even if it's not a Wii game (cough -- it should be). Nothing else really sold all that well, not even the games in the top ten. Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii keep piling on copies to their ever-growing mountains, though, and remain snug in the top ten.The other big news in terms of Japanese software is the release of Resident Evil 0. Capcom's port did debut at spot six, but only sold 20k copies in its first week. This game won't come even close to being the cash cow that Resident Evil 4 was, but we're sure Capcom will still make a pretty ported penny.Hardware sales show that the Wii was stuck in third, again:You can check out Japan's software sales and rankings from last week after the break.

We were talking about Capcom and the Japan-exclusive Wii port of Resident Evil Zero yesterday, so we figured the question is valid. Sure, we all would like to see Capcom's newest entry in the series, Resident Evil 5, ported to the Wii, but what about this GameCube remake?Do you want the game localized to your region? Big Resident Evil fan? We are, so we're usually quick to pick up a title even if it just has a new coat of paint on it. What say you all?

Imagine our surprise when Capcom's blog updated to our RSS about the Wii port of Resident Evil Zero. We thought yesterday would be the end of talk pertaining to the game releasing here in the west. But, for you European readers, know this doesn't apply to you. Capcom Europe passed on the project, so apparently there's no hope there. But, back to us in North America. The latest entry in the Capcom blog says they "are watching the progress on the game, and if it ends up blowing up huge like RE4 Wii did, we'll evaluate the possibility of bringing it over here and flipping the lingo sos that y'all can read it." For those of you that don't speak hip blog, that last bit at the end means that they'll localize the game over here with English text and speech. You all pretty much know how we feel (Resident Evil = we buy) about the whole thing, but what do you think? We know a lot of you aren't looking for another Resident Evil port unless it, you know, validates itself.Read - Capcom's latest blog entry about Resident Evil ZeroRead - Resident Evil Zero on Famitsu

  • 'No plans' for Resident Evil Zero on Wii in Europe or US

Just after Japanese gaming-mag Famitsu broke news of a Wii port of Resident Evil Zero, Capcom has responded, telling Eurogamer, "We currently have no plans to bring the Wii version of Resident Evil 0 that you saw in Famitsu yesterday to either US or Europe at this point in time." Of course, we all know that, in PR parlance, "no plans" doesn't necessarily mean "no" but something closer to "don't hold your breath."While many bought (at a high price) the already excellent Resident Evil 4 on Wii, RE0 is a far more old-fashioned affair, employing the series' trademark Cumbersome Tank Control™ and Ridiculous Door Loading Screen™ technologies. Without some significant overhauling, we think Capcom's probably right to be skeptical of a US or European release.
