Chroma Squad developer Behold Games added a backers-only update to its Kickstarter page yesterday informing the game's funders that it is negotiating a royalty-share deal with Power Rangers owner Saban. According to the update, Saban contacted Behold Games about Chroma Squad and found the game was too similar to the Power Rangers brand, agreeing to either split the game's royalties or go to court to ensure the game would not launch. As Behold Games told Joystiq via email, the developer opted to "make a win-win negotiation" by discussing terms with Saban, though it did not note how royalties from the game's sales would split between the two parties, should they come to an agreement. The developer also stressed in its Kickstarter update that Chroma Squad "is inspired by something much broader than Power Rangers. We're talking about an amazing Sentai culture that is mostly Japanese, but got even bigger with fans from around the world."

Say what you will about the decidedly kid-oriented Power Rangers franchise, but it's made for some pretty enjoyable beat-em-up video games in console generations past. Hence our interest in Namco Bandai's recent decision to renew its partnership with Saban Brands to start making games based on the Mighty Morphin heroes once again. According to Eurogamer, this collaboration was made possible by Saban's recent move to re-acquire the Power Rangers IP from Disney, which has owned the rights to the franchise since 2001, and has used it to launch like, a zillion spin-off series. We hope any games Namco Bandai creates under the partnership focuses on the original crew. You know, Zack, Kimberly, Trini ... the Red one, and ... the nerdy one. Also, the insufferable robot.

If you won't get a chance to take advantage of the Warhammer Online preview weekend this weekend, we've found the next best thing. A WAR fan named Saban is streaming his gameplay from this weekend completely live for all to see. Not only that, you can chat with other observers and comment on what's going on in the game. Saban even includes information on the computer he's using, his character and Vent server info to join him and others in some hardcore WAR discussion. We anticipate once this site gets more popular, the streaming won't be so... streaming, but it's worth a shot for anyone still on the fence about what to expect with WAR. From what we're watching at the time of this writing, the streaming is still flawless, which even includes streaming music from Saban, but of course that depends on your connection and your computer.[Via Cuppycake] Did you enjoy this?
