'Saturday Night Live' is coming to UK screens in early 2020

If you want to watch Saturday Night Live in the UK, then you've got one of two options: pirate it, or watch the edited highlights on YouTube. One is illegal, the other's not very satisfying, but it's not going to be that way for very much longer. At the start of 2020, Sky is going to start broadcasting the full-length versions of the US comedy behemoth in the UK for the first time in a decade.

  • Twitch bans streamer who faked his own swatting

There are a couple things you probably shouldn't do to celebrate acquiring 800,000 followers on Twitch. Faking your own swatting at the end of a 24-hour live event, as streamer Trick2g recently did, is at the top of the list. Trick2g, who focused primarily on League of Legends during his broadcasts, can be seen casually chatting with viewers when two "police officers" bust in and haul him away.

  • Must See HDTV for the week of March 24th: The Walking Dead, Psych, Fez, Louis CK on SNL

March Madness rolls on this weekend with the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games, but with our billion dollar brackets already destroyed, what else is there to watch? The Academy Awards Best Picture nominee march continues this week with the release of The Wolf of Wall Street on Blu-ray (how can Leo not have an Oscar?) and Continuum S2, while on TV The Walking Dead wraps up its fourth season, Helix reaches its first season finale and Louis CK brings his talents to Saturday Night Live. We'll have to put our DVRs to work on Saturday though, since Hannibal Burress' special is airing on Comedy Central around the same time. Before all that however, we'll bid a final farewell to USA's Psych, which is airing its series finale this week after eight seasons (and a movie?). For games there's no next-gen exclusive blockbusters this week, but PlayStation owners can cross buy a port of Fez across Vita, PS3 and PS4. Check after the break for trailers plus our weekly listing of what to look out for in TV, Blu-ray and gaming.

  • Comedian Jay Mohr rejoins star-studded Saints Row cast

    by

Former Blizzcon host Jay Mohr is again lending his voice to the Saints Row franchise, a series that also boasts Hollywood notables such as Neil Patrick Harris, Burt Reynolds, and in possibly the greatest cameo appearance ever, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. Mohr broke the news on Twitter, stating simply, "About to do my voice over work for new Saints Row video game." Alongside this message Mohr posted a photograph of the recording studio he was using where a screen clearly shows several fan-favorite Saints Row characters. Unfortunately, Mohr's image offers no further hints at what the actor's involvement might be in the Saints Row universe. Saints Row 4 is a new enough game that this recent recording session may be related to an upcoming, as yet unannounced DLC addition for the game. On the other hand, the game is also old enough that developer Volition could have pulled Mohr in to record lines for Saints Row 5. While not necessarily a direct indicator of his role, Mohr previously voiced Dane Vogel, antagonist of Saints Row 2. Whatever the case, we likely won't know more any time soon. Mohr's become coy since his initial reveal, and neither Volition nor publisher Deep Silver will say anything further. Edit: This article has been altered to note that Jay Mohr previously appeared as a voice actor in the Saints Row series. [Image: Flickr]

  • Wizard101 soundtrack adding a 'mystery composer'

As Wizard101 gears up for its latest expansion world of Wintertusk, the folks at KingsIsle Entertainment have a secret or two up their sleeves. According to the studio, the soundtrack for Wintertusk was composed by "one of the hottest young musical talents in the entertainment industry." Who is this composer? Well, that's the big secret -- the studio isn't saying. Instead, KingsIsle has set up a Wizard101 Mystery Composer page that will reveal hints, one at a time, until the artist is revealed. The only hint that's up so far mentions that this person performed on Saturday Night Live. KingsIsle's J. Todd Coleman feels that when the artist is revealed, it'll be a big deal: "This is a cool idea, because our mystery composer has a huge name in the music business but has never created music for a video game. I'm really impressed by this artist's adaptability and talent. I think our players are going to be very surprised and totally blown-away." The Wintertusk soundtrack is made up of seven original pieces of music. Currently, the expansion world is on the test server.

  • SNL's Black Friday doorbuster ad promises waxed floors and fire hazards galore

We all know that there's nothing funny about actual injury or death caused by a stampeding crowd rabidly in search of cheap TVs. There is, however, plenty to laugh at in the video below from the most recent Saturday Night Live. The mock Black Friday ad for Mega-Mart includes all the post-Thanksgiving hallmarks of consumerism we've come to love: super cheap electronics, scary-looking shoppers and a sales rep who sounds an announcer at a horse race. Enjoy the full video below.

For iPhone and iPad owners who are also old, Capcom has released a new game starring the 1970s Saturday Night Live character Mr. Bill. In Mr. Bill, players guide the unlucky clay character through a series of jobs given to him by the Sluggo Employment Agency. Two jobs are available in the initial game: human cannonball and farm hand. Capcom plans to release more levels and jobs in the future -- for free. The first update will be a zombie-themed level due on Halloween. Do zombies eat clay? If you're at all curious about this vintage character's new adventure, Capcom has temporarily priced the game at 99 cents for the launch. The publisher didn't mention the regular price, but it's, you know, more.%Gallery-103224%

  • Found Footage: SNL parodies Steve Jobs again

    by

Saturday Night Live (SNL) has done a great job of satirizing Steve Jobs and Apple over the years, and the tradition continued last week. "Undercover Boss" is a TV show in the states that has big business CEOs perform their company's entry-level jobs. SNL expanded the idea to Undercover Celebrity Boss, and featured Steve Jobs as the first target. In the clip after the break, watch "Steve" explain to an employee that the trash can he's filling, which he calls the iTrash, "...holds over 35 gallons of trash, and plays music." There are other "celebrity bosses" in the clip (Martha Stewart is especially funny), but it's Steve that got our attention. Good job, SNL! You can watch the video after the break. • SNL: Google phone to challenge iPhone by "making calls"

Saturday Night Live's 'Weekend Update' with Seth Meyers joined the fray of people who were sick of AT&T's poor network reception: "It was reported this week that Google would soon launch its own cellphone as a challenge to the iPhone. Also a challenge to the iPhone? Making phone calls." While Saturday Night Live hasn't been funny for years (IMHO), and the joke was rather feeble, this is further cause for embarrassment from Apple and AT&T and just additional fodder for Verizon's case as to why they should have the iPhone. • New SNL title sequence and segments shot using Canon EOS 7D, 5D Mark II

Sure, we'd heard of indie flicks and rumors of studio films being shot on Canon's EOS 5D Mark II, but DSLR video just got a big kick into the mainstream: Saturday Night Live's new opening title sequence was shot using an EOS 7D. SNL director of photography Alex Buono saw that Dublin's People short and was so impressed that he switched over -- and what's more, he's even using the 5D and 7D to shoot various segments, like the faux-mercial for "Bladivan" embedded below. That's a big win for this new breed of video cameras -- and while we're stoked to see new tech take over the old, we're also patiently waiting for someone to start a site dedicated to identifying jelly-motion on network television. • Alec Baldwin waggles Wiimote on SNL

    by
    Justin McElroy

    02.16.2009

We're used to Alec Baldwin swooping down like some sort of comedy angel to save even the worst episodes of Saturday Night Live, but we doubt even Della Reese crossed with Don Rickles could have preserved the chuckles this week. A skit involving Wario Land: Shake It is a prime example of Baldwin's ability to bail out what's essentially a sinking ship.Jokes that tie Wiimote motion to masturbation are so old now as to be almost quaint, but Baldwin manages to bring a certain classiness to the proceedings, and the bit (which you can see after the break) ended up a semi-bright spot in an otherwise crushingly dim evening.
