Microsoft will replace your Surface Pro 4 if the screen flickers
Since Microsoft released the Surface Pro 4 in 2015, many owners have wrangled with a maddening screen flicker. Two and a half years later, Microsoft still can't fix the issue on "a small percentage" of Pro 4s through firmware and driver updates, so the company is offering customers refurbished replacements.
Apple TV update reportedly causing screen flicker issues with HDMI to DVI adapters
We've seen reports of strange video behavior with Apple TVs before, and it looks like a new problem has now cropped up with the most recent update. According to a growing number of reports on the Apple support forums, those using an HDMI to DVI adapter to connect the device to their TV seem to have been hit with an annoying issue that causes their screen to flicker every few seconds. That's apparently happening with a wide range of TVs, and at least some are also reporting the same thing happening even if they aren't using an adapter. A few folks have apparently been able to fix things in the interim by simply pulling their HDMI cable and plugging it back in, but most are stuck with the annoying issue -- or worse, a downgraded 480p signal. 27-inch iMac shipping delays extended 3 more weeks
Did you order one of those sweet 27-inch iMacs from the Apple online store recently? Well, if you did, expect to see a delay in getting it. AppleInsider is reporting that the 27-inch models currently have a three-week shipping time. Earlier this week, Apple's web store showed estimated shipping times of less than a week. The delay could be due to several factors. First, initial users of the 27-inch model had been experiencing screen flicker issues, which caused orders made in December to be delayed about two weeks. Apple released a software patch for the big-screen iMac on December 21st that was meant to resolve the screen flicker issues, but many purchasers are still experiencing the problems. It could be that Apple is slowing the pace of manufacturing until the situation is resolved. Another possibility not addressed in the AppleInsider post could be that the demand for the 27-inch iMac is reaching a new peak. The iMac line made up the best-selling desktop computers in the U.S. in the last quarter of 2009, with the 21.5-inch model topping the charts. It's not entirely out of the question that demand at Apple resellers, including the Apple Stores, is finally being met by the supply of the 27-inch model and that fewer of the machines are available for purchase online. Screen flickering problem plagues MacBooks
MacBook owners just can't seem to get a break, it seems. The loveable laptops have had a handful of problems since their debut, ranging from the random shutdown syndrome (which was later fixed), to the whirring moo problem (also fixed), to the discoloration issue (yep, fixed), to the plastic cracking crisis (no idea what's going on there). The latest problème du jour apparently has to do with flickering screens, which seem to crop up on an unpredictable basis, but might possibly be triggered by high CPU load. Apparently this issue has been discussed on Apple's own web forums for months, but the particular thread was recently locked for no reason, reports AppleDefects. Further, other Mac sites, including MacinTouch and O'Grady's PowerPage, are reporting similar problems with older PowerBook and MacBook Pros. Hopefully this will all be swiftly resolved with a firmware update in short order.
