  • Streaming HD video games demonstrated at IPTV World Forum

IPTV set-top box manufacturer Amino made a first recently, when it showed a live demo of G-Cluster streaming games played in high definition via its AmiNET130 STB. The G-Cluster service has been around in Japan for a while, it runs all the processing on a server, while the audio and video streams back to the user, but this is the first time its shown the technology used in HD. Resident Evil 4 and Sensible Soccer aren't quite as detailed as Call of Duty or Gears of War, but with enough bandwidth, it might not be long before we don't have to buy a disc or download a game at all.

Our friend Major Nelson informs us that Sensible World of Soccer is now back up on Xbox Live Arcade and ready for download. Arcade soccer fanatics (and there are more than a few of you, apparently), will know that a broken version of the game was put up on Xbox Live Arcade earlier this week. The new version is apparently bug free and ready to free kick its way right into your heart. Major Nelson advises those who downloaded the borked version to delete it and redownload it from XBLA. The download will be free of charge for those that have already paid for the full version.

Update: It's sounding like an incorrect build of Sensible Soccer was placed on the Marketplace. Oops! It's Wednesday and it's time for some new Xbox Live Arcade releases. Today, both Tempest and Sensible World of Soccer are available for 400 and 800 Microsoft points respectively. Actually, Tempest is only available right now ... Sensible Soccer not so much. You see, as soon as Sensible Soccer hit the XBLA this morning downloaders noticed a major problem. Supposedly, there's a bug in the game that signs users out of Xbox Live everytime it loads. So, the Xbox Live gods pulled Sensible Soccer from the Arcade until a fix can be deployed and now everyone is sad. It's not like Codemasters didn't have plenty of time to test. They should have spotted this major flaw during the four months the game was delayed. Why Codemasters, why must you constantly tease us with Sensible Soccer only to let us down again? We'll keep you updated on all the Sensible Soccer drama, but until then ... just download Tempest.Read - Sensible World of SoccerRead - Tempest

This week's Xbox Live Arcade release announcement just landed in our inbox and from the looks of things, the soccer gods have finally come through! Sensible World of Soccer is releasing to the XBLA this Wednesday and this time it's a guarantee. And that's a good thing, seeing that our cleats have been ready to go since August. Also releasing alongside Sensible Soccer this week will be some old-school Tempest action as well. What more can be said, Tempest is Tempest. An XBLA twofer this week, one being Sensible Soccer and the sun in actually shining today. Life is good.

Yes, Codemasters has already unofficially announced on their forums that Sensible Soccer will release December 19th, but we didn't want to get too excited knowing how a developer's release plans don't always match that of Microsoft's. But now we're a bit more comfortable in locking in Sensible Soccer for a release next Wednesday, because AceyBongo (he's the UK's Major Nelson) has just confirmed the news too. Now we're 99.632% sure that the once delayed, then promised for August, then delayed again Sensible Soccer will make its way to the XBLA next Wednesday, December 19th ... pending any further delays. Or so we think. Man, we've been burnt way too many times.[Thanks, John Boyle]

  • Sensible Soccer arrives December 19

After numerous delays and reschduling, it looks like Sensible World of Soccer has finally settled on a solid release date. The announcement comes with little fanfare on the Codemasters forum, where Community Administrator Rubbergenius declares that the game should arrive on Xbox Live Arcade on December 19. We're assuming the post is referring to 2007. So, we've slipped from a generic "summer" date to August to November and now to December. We know that fans are frothing at the mouth to get a shot at this game. Let's see if this release date sticks, shall we?

Fans of, well, Soccer, will be pleased as punch to learn that the remake of 1994's Sensible World of Soccer will finally be making its way to Xbox Live Arcade sometime this month. At least, it will if everything goes well, according to developer Codemasters.Codemasters producer Jim Brown tells Eurogamer that the classic Soccer/Football title still has another round of submissions internally, as well as Microsoft's own certification process, but that the team anticipates the game's availability on XBLA within the month. According to Brown, delays on the game's release have been due to the multiplayer network code, which has been reworked significantly for stability. Sensible World of Soccer was deemed one of the ten most important games of all time back in March, by a panel including our very own Chris Grant.

  • Codemasters hopes for Sensible Soccer this month

Sensible World of Soccer has been on something of a release date roller coaster this year. Originally scheduled to release this summer, the game was set for August 29th. After this date was missed, the game was delayed for an indeterminate amount of time, though Codemasters warned it would not arrive in September either. Now November is upon us and Codemasters is shooting for a release late this month according to Eurogamer. That, however, is dependent on whether or not the game makes it through Microsoft's certification process on time. Given the history of this process, it's still quite possible that we won't be playing any Sensible World of Soccer this month either. Still, keep the faith fanboys, you may yet get your chance to play some classic football on XBLA this month.

  • FIFA '08 headed to Mac?

Inside Mac Games reports that one of their readers, while registering FIFA '08 for the PC on the Windows side of Boot Camp, noticed that EA has both PC and Mac versions of the uberpopular soccer -- sorry, football -- videogame listed for registration. And that's a pretty good indication, of course, that FIFA '08 is on its way for the Mac.Personally, I've never really gotten into videogame soccer-- the last soccer game I really loved was Nintendo World Cup way back in 1990. And while I hear that Winning Eleven is the biggest star in the genre right now (although Sensible Soccer, I know, has its fans), FIFA is definitely still competitive. Lots of football fans, I'm sure, would love to see it on the Mac.So we'll see. Obviously no release date yet (although a good guess would be by the end of '08 -- snicker), and we'll see if EA just slipped up or if they really plan to release this one. But FIFA '08 would be yet another nice addition to the growing line of games for our platform.

Sensible Soccer achievements have just rolled in, detailing what exactly one would need to achieve August 29th to earn their 200 Gamerscore points. The achievements aren't anything uber exciting, although the artwork is pretty nifty in all its 8-bit glory including our favorites "Possession" and "Champs". What can we say, we enjoy zombies and cheerleaders even if they are a tad blocky. Achievements detailed in a Codemaster provided graphic after the jump with actual Gamerscore points still pending.[Thanks, Shawn]

Yesterday, developer Codemasters confirmed with Pro-G that upcoming XBLA game Sensible Soccer will be releasing on August 29th, which is just a few weeks after the soccer FA Premiership season kicks off. Marketing genius! Not only did Codemasters confirm the release date, but they also mentioned that the Sensible World of Soccer 96-97 remake will cost 800 Microsoft points. Now only if we could learn to cut our grass into those beautiful diamond shapes.

  • New details on Sensible Soccer for XBLA

North Americans don't get soccer. Europeans don't get American football (and are understandably confused as to why it's called football). Still, both sports have their classic iterations. America has Tecmo Bowl, and Europe has Sensible Soccer. It was revealed some time ago that Sensible Soccer would be making its way to Xbox Live Arcade, and IGN has unearthed a few details about the game. Like many classic Arcade releases, Sensible Soccer will feature enhanced graphics and sound. Codemasters, developer of the series, notes that they intend to maintain the classic feel of the game, and all work will be based on the source code developed for Sensible World of Soccer 96/97. Finally, the game is scheduled to release this summer for both Live Arcade and Windows. Are any of our European readers excited about this?
