League of Legends features a lot of diversity among its male champions, but the female champions all feature a fairly uniform body type. That's something the developers at Riot Games are keen on changing. In response to a fan question at SDCC, producer Omar Kendall said that the company has been introducing new ways of looking at body types and shapes, with the end goal of making female champions who don't look like the others. Kendall went on to specify that the call for more diversity is one that players should see represented soon in a new character coming out. He also noted that diversity is being strongly considered with further character designs and any new champions. Game designer Brian Feeney noted that it would be a net boon to the game as a whole -- as Riot is very concerned with distinctive silhouettes, a more robust selection of body types makes it easier to tell champions apart.

  • Adweek Media's Campaign of the Decade: Apple's Get a Mac ads

As Apple fans, we've loved Apple's "Get a Mac" ad campaign. With Justin Long as the cool, laid-back Mac and John Hodgman starring as the stodgy, uptight PC, the ads have managed to make us laugh since they first appeared in 2006. The campaign has spawned the "I'm a PC" response ads from Microsoft, which aren't nearly as fun or effective as the original (if we do say so ourselves). The ads have been incredibly effective at getting Apple's message across -- Macs just work, with no bloatware, few viruses and little malware, and Mac users can do a lot with the provided iLife software. AdweekMedia has paid tribute to the campaign in its Best of the 2000s awards, giving the Campaign of the Decade plaudits to Apple and TBWA / Media Arts Lab for the memorable ads. That's not the only Apple campaign that received an award -- the iPod "Silhouettes" campaign won the Out of Home Ad of the Decade prize. Out of Home ads (AKA outdoor advertising) consist of those advertisements that are shown on billboards, buses, and kiosks rather than on television or in print. The awards were voted upon by the editors of AdweekMedia, and reader's choice awards were also listed. The "Get a Mac" campaign was third place in reader voting, while "Silhouettes" picked up the number one spot from readers in its category.

It's been a long time since we've seen new iPod ads featuring the old silhouettes. Well, after taking a break from them, Apple has decided to release a new silhouette ad. It was shown on TV in the US today and can be seen by going to the Apple iTunes page and clicking "Watch the new ad" underneath the "Featured on iTunes" section. The music is apparently "Shut Up and Let Me Go" by UK band the Ting Tings. Thanks for the tip, Bren.

  • The iPod Silhouettes: Before and After

The iPod silhouettes have become nearly as iconic as the iPod themselves. As we've previously noted, Apple's signature ad campaign has even spawned some unsavory copycats, which Apple has had to beat down. Now Rocket Studio, which apparently created the idea for Apple's ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day, L.A., has posted a couple of sample before and after shots. It's neat to see what the original photos looked like before they were turned into silhouettes, and I think a kind of confirmation that the imagination can be more powerful than the eyes (i.e. I think the silhouettes look much cooler than the originals).Note: the original site has already succumbed to the "Digg effect" so you might rather check out this coral cache mirror.[Via Digg]
