Infinite Space takes space at top of Japanese charts
Platinum Games' first release may not have been a sales phenomenon, but the company has found (relative) success with its second, the DS sci-fi roleplaying game Mugen Kouro (Infinite Space). It was a slow week for Japanese software sales, which allowed Infinite Space's 38,394 copies to put it at the top of the Media Create sales chart for last week, its first week in stores.The three spots below that on the chart also belong to DS games: last week's top seller, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days sits at #2, followed by Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth and Sloane and Machale's Mysterious Story. Level-5's Layton-esque 'Sloane and MacHale's Mysterious Story' launches this week in Japan
Last year, in the midst of a pile of news from Level-5, the company quietly announced three DS puzzle games called the Atamania series. The first game in that series comes out on May 21 in Japan, and it looks like something worth getting excited about!Sloane and MacHale's Mysterious Story is, like Level-5's Professor Layton series, a collection of brain teasers wrapped up in an overarching mystery tale. The puzzle content in this game consists of lateral thinking puzzles from Paul Sloane and Des MacHale, presented as both animated scenarios (in a very cool silhouette style) and text. The puzzles seem to involve moving the text of the puzzle around with the stylus to make connections. Of course, Level-5 has yet to say anything about localization on Mysterious Story. We'd say it's an obvious choice given the success of Professor Layton, but we have yet to see any of the Layton sequels!
Two more new DS games from Level-5?
While we're not sure why these two weren't announced with the same fanfare as Inazuma Eleven 2, Professor Layton and the Third Game with a Long Title, and Ninokuni: The Another World, it looks like Level-5 is kicking out even more DS titles. These latest two just aren't as high profile.Akira Tago's Brain Exercise Vol. 1: Travel Around the World Solving Puzzles and Sloane and McHale's Mysterious Story were both listed in the same issue of Famitsu in which the other games were announced, though these two were buried in the schedule for 2009. We don't know much about Sloane and McHale, but Akira Tago is the puzzle master whose works inspired Professor Layton. That's all we need to know![Via Gamekyo]
