'Super Smash Bros.' gets tournament modes and YouTube replays
Nintendo isn't done with the 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. just yet. The company has released an update today which adds tournament modes and the ability to post video replays to YouTube. Both features were teased just before E3, but we weren't expecting a slew of new character outfits and stages to go along with them. Nintendo is offering the Hyrule Castle and Peach's Castle arenas from the original Super Smash Bros. on N64, priced at $1.99 per platform or $2.99 across both. They're joined by a deluge of Mii fighter costumes, including King K. Rool from Donkey Kong, Chrom from Fire Emblem: Awakening and Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia. All eight are available for $0.75 or $1.15 across both 3DS and Wii U. Alternatively, you can get everything as a bundle for $9.98 or $15.18 on both Nintendo systems. One last thing: there's a K.K. Slider Mii Fighter costume from Animal Crossing too. It's free to download and looks darn cute.

Joystiq hands-on: Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii)
Hello, I'm Zack, and I had never played Smash Bros. until today. I don't know if that should be a confession or proclamation. Let it be both. Let the flaming begin.Super Smash Bros. Brawl felt frenetic. To me, it seemed like too much was happening on-screen to play with precision. But apparently people wring ever moment of control out of this fast-paced game. Just not the first time they play.In my games, Brawl always had a lot going on. A power-up poured out 2D sprites lifted directly from Advance Wars. Another caused a Nintendog to briefly paw playfully at the screen, for no reason other than to annoy us. I just laughed at the puppy as I was knocked off the platform to my loss.I like my fighting games with more of an immediate sense of cause-and-effect and without this power-up focus. But I could see the appeal of Brawl. It had so much happening that I was always entertained. And the sense of humor and strangeness -- Mario versus Sonic in a fighting game -- also hooked me.%Gallery-8530%
Wii Warm Up: All my Smash Brothers
Considering the continuing excitement over frequent updates to the official Super Smash Bros. Brawl site, we can't get the game out of our heads. It's always there, lurking, and sometimes it just bursts out as though emerging from a Poké Ball, so we thought it might be a good day to sit down and discuss both Brawl and Melee. Specifically, who did you wield as your weapon character of choice in Melee, and who do you think you'll use in Brawl? Will you stick with the same character (if you can), or perhaps switch to someone new (may we suggest Solid Snake?)? Of course, the best laid plans of mice and gamers sometimes fall by the wayside once we actually have a controller in our hands, but we'd love to hear what you think you'll do.
Wii Warm Up: What's next?
So what's the next thing you expect to buy for your Wii? An extra controller or nunchuk? Some of you may be planning for a nifty accessory or a game from the list of upcoming releases. On the other hand, some of you could be holding out for the Next Big Thing -- nothing short of Mario, Samus, or both is good enough for you. So tell us... what's next?
Guess a Small Arms date, kill a kitten
After K1lla's Xbox Domain took a wild guess (September 13) at the date for the XBLA beat'em up Small Arms, Don from Gastronaut responded with the following insight into what really goes with these release dates : Every time someone guesses a date, we push back the release a week... And kill a kitten. He's joking...I think. For Toonces' sake people -- stop speculating.[Thanks Joey]
Smash Bros. Creator Back For More
What is it about Super Smash Bros. that makes it so insanely addictive? Is it the frenzied four-player fighting? The magnificent mish-mash of Nintendo characters? Or is it simply the ability to punch Pikachu in the face? We're not sure, but having the word "SMASH" in the title is usually a good way to get us excited about something. The series really hit a high note with Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Gamecube, a note which may be surpassed by the upcoming sequel slated for the Revolution's launch.A good deal of reassurance can be found in the fact that the game's original creator, Masahiro Sakura, is returning to his comfy Nintendo office after having been away for two years, no doubt on some silly journey of self-discovery. The reason for his return? To head up a big development team that hopes to crank out a new Smash Bros. game just in time for Nintendo's next console launch. But how will the game work with the unique controller? Your guess is as good as ours.
