  • WoW Moviewatch: Depth of Field Wonderland

This video by Baron Soosdon is described on its YouTube page as "not machinima." Of course, the good Baron has the right to say that about any of his work he'd like, but this is still one hell of a gorgeous video. The video is called Depth of Field Wonderland and was created to test out Malu05's machinima tool. The big deal about Malu05's tool is that it allows machinima creators to introduce depth of field to their creations. Depth of field in photography refers to the areas in front of and behind a subject being in varying degrees of focus. By manipulating depth of field, machinimators like Baron Soosdon can create visual excitement and focus in their work. The Baron's work is always outstanding and beautiful. Depth of Field Wonderland shows off both the Baron's talent for visuals and imagery as well as the power of Malu05's tool. Interested in the wide world of machinima? After the good Baron Soosdon worked with Olibith on Never Stay Tuned 4, he continued to chase an interesting idea. Warriors Dance is the result of that idea. According to the Baron's description of Warriors Dance, the dance club Shortchange was created after the liberation of the gnomish people from the traitorous Alliance. However, things get a little different by the end of opening night.Baron Soosdon has created another entertaining, fun location, though this one is wildly different from the paradise he put together for Happy Up Here. I think if the Shortchange were an actual, functioning dance space is Azeroth, you could probably find dozens of Alliance jostling to get in. I continue to be amazed at how well Soosdon pieces his musical choice together with the video he puts on screen. The rhythm, words, and general vibe of the music matches the thriving, vibrant graphics. Ultimately, this video was awesome, and is going to be one I replay frequently. In case the embedded video doesn't work out for you, you can check out a few different streams on the Baron's blog. Note: Not everything in this video is safe for work.Olibith's Never Stay Tuned series is more than just a collection of videos. The original series has come to be an institution, filled with fun, glory, and legend! Olibith has created the finest collection of parody and culture references in the machinima world. He's now back with the last installment Never Stay Tuned 4.The guest list featured in Never Stay Tuned 4 is a wonderful nod to the work Olibith has done. You'll see work by Baron Soosdon, Ian Beckman, the AFK pl@yers, Pinkhair, and Goldskin. Each has brought unique aspect to the work, and the vast collaboration has created something epic. You'll probably recognize the unique styles, but there's an itemized credit at the end. Never Stay Tuned 4 was as hilarious as the first ones in the series. Now, if you didn't like those previous videos, then chances are that the fourth installment won't radically change your mind. There's quite a few jokes and gags in the video that are a little rough or tawdry, and a few spots of nudity and violence, which will also affect your opinion. The entire video is incredibly well done, with absolutely amazing graphic work. Go to the effort to check it out, but take your time do so: the video clocks in over 18 minutes. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! • WoW Moviewatch: Happy Up Here

Happy Up Here is the new machinima by that maestro of Gnomes, Baron Soosdon. He spelled out the premise of the video best when he said, "So, I was flying around in Elwynn and found this lonely little house in mountains. It had no residents so that had to be changed!"Happy Up Here shows the same inspired music choice as the Baron's previous works. According Soosdon himself, he's not done "area creation" before this video; he just wanted to make a video that would help folks smile. Considering the laughs and smiles the gnomes seem to be having, I think he succeeded. The little gnome resort he's created looks like it would be a rolicking good time, complete with dance space, rockets, swimming pool, bars, and more. This is definitely a fun video to watch, though I could see some folks might be confused if they're looking for something like Little Nikita's action. This video just doesn't work that way. It's a short vignette of fun, and just meant to be enjoyed in its bite-sized lightheartedness. If you have trouble with the YouTube stream, you can also see Happy Up Here on Vimeo or WeGame. Some days, it's a little slow in the world of WoW machinima. Other days, I log in to my email and find out we're starting the week with a Baron Soosdon machinima. Which is, frankly, awesome. The good Baron got a tip about this song from his YouTube activity. He was drawn, motivated, and compelled to create a signature machinima for it. Thus was A.D.I.D.A.W. born. After hearing the music, how could you not empathize with the frenzied, holy compulsion to put gnome-to-screen for this song? The song in A.D.I.D.A.W. is a take-off from Korn's A.D.I.D.A.S.. This musical re-creation is the brainchild of the band Electric Sex Pants. And, man, they really do hit the sweet spot for lyrics. All day I do, in fact, dream about WoW. I admit I've not been into scream metal for a while, but these guys just "did it" for me.The video story itself is pretty awesome. I don't want to give it away, because the action is totally worth the watch. I'll summarize as best I can. Some horde are mistreating gnomes, in a wide variety of ways. But at the end, the song ends, and the abuse stops. Then, a little revenge comes their way. (No pun intended.) The graphics and animation are all clean and sharp. The action is easy to follow, and instilled with enough "whoah, cool" to make you want to reroll a Gnome. As always, I'm thankful to the Baron for continuing the people's revolution, making gnomes cooler and cooler every day.You can find multiple options for a video stream at the good Baron's blog.If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ..

As a note, if you're having trouble viewing this video through the stream, there are many more viewing options at the good Baron's blog. I highly recommend downloading the HD options for best experience.I first got word a few days ago. A small wisp of warning, a whisper that today's big news was coming. Time passes, days go by. Then, yesterday, a heads up sent by Selserene (whom I thank vastly for the message). Then, a promotional message on the front of one of my favorite sites, Myndflame. And, finally, a link! Confirmation! It was true my friends -- the good Baron Soosdon has released his 30 minute masterpiece, No Point: Stretching Time. Now, I feel that me reviewing Baron Soosdon is a little like a college newspaper fantasy columnist trying to review Peter Jackson, but I'll share my thoughts on his new movie.

Calling all Gnomes... Calling all Gnomes... Baron Soosdon, one of the best machinima creators out there, wants your Gnomes. In a post over on the EU forums he tells everyone "[I] need gnomes, gnome dying and flying into the air." The gnomes will be used for an upcoming machinima project of his. Some of his previous work is great, and I really suggest you check it out. The Device Has Been Modified is one of my favorite pieces of machinima, and Child Escapism also ranks quite high. If you want to get into this project you'll need to follow the instructions he outlines in his post. EU Community Team member Wryxian points out Soosdon is looking for gnomes and not crocolisks, so let's try to remember that (if there is any confusion, that is).And in case you're worried about gnome hate, a very serious problem in Azeroth, Soosdon lets us all know that he doesn't hate Gnomes, and that the video itself won't be about killing gnomes. Are you still there?

Soosdon. With a name like that and the skills he has, any machinima or even a sneak peek at his machinima deserves mention. Today on WoW Moviewatch we'll take a look at a trailer for his new work No Point: Stretching Time.I'm going to put on my fanbois hat for a minute and say that everything this man does is golden. I really only started following machinima when I began writing for WoW Insider, and at that Soosdon's The Device Has Been Modified really got me into it. So with this trailer we see a gnome fighting some bad guys. Adal is in there, along with some spirits of resurrection. A brief kiss between some gnomes and more epicness. The quality of the trailer is what you'd expect from Soosdon – professional quality that is nearly as good as what you'd see on the big screen.Take a look at the trailer, and keep your eyes out on Moviewatch for when the full length machinima hits.If you have any suggestions for WoW Moviewatch, you can mail them to us at machinima AT wowinsider DOT com.Previously on Moviewatch ...

The fascinating things about Baron Soosdon's machinima is the way he tells us an entire story with images and editing rather than pages of dialog. (And I cannot hope to sum up the story being told -- take a look for yourself!) It's different than many of the pieces of machinima we post, but I think no less entertaining for it.Previously on Moviewatch...

I don't think I ever really understood the How to Paladin videos. I tended to watch them with a sort of morbid fascination, trying to glean some comprehension of their purpose and meaning -- obviously crucial to my understanding of the Paladin class. However, for Baron Soosdon's tribute to the series (seen above!), I can safely say has nothing whatsoever to teach you about the Priest class. It is, however, entertaining in the same way the original How to Paladin videos are.Previously on Moviewatch...

If you aren't familiar with the movie Sin City, this World of Warcraft recreation by Baron Soosdon should give you an idea of what to expect from the movie or comics. And my only question is... Gnomes? Of all things, Gnomes?! I suppose the female Gnome works best for the line about eyes, but somehow Gnomes don't speak to me of the atmosphere presented in the original.Previously on Moviewatch...
