Spider-Man is seemingly everywhere this year. The web slinger jumped off cinema screens in Avengers: Infinity War and on to his first console game in years, the universally-acclaimed Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4. Just in time to cash in on the craze, he's getting his own Garmin Vivofit Jr. 2. The shrunken activity tracker for kids already boasts a bunch of colourful editions (including Disney Princesses) and now you can get it in two new Spider-Man themes that match his outfit, red and navy (sold separately).

With its high rent, heavy traffic and unreliable subway system, New York can be a tough place to live. For many, it's a nonstop grind of work and sleep to make rent and pay the bills each month. It's also an exciting city full of diverse people and enormous skyscrapers. It's both aspects of Manhattan -- the hectic lifestyle and stunning architecture -- that make it a perfect fit for Spider-Man, a witty web-slinger who struggles to balance his work and love life with the responsibilities of a powerful superhero. The latest Spider-Man video game, developed by Ratchet & Clank studio Insomniac, treats New York as a character. A place that can pose real, relatable problems for Peter Parker and his alter-ego.

We're only a few short weeks out from swinging through New York City in Marvel's Spider-Man, but today the team at Insomniac is talking about everything you'll do after you wrap the story. Because this is a huge AAA game, of course there's a season pass with additional episodes. Collectively, they're called "City That Never Sleeps." It's a trio of add-on stories in this case, with the first, "The Heist" out October 23rd, or, a few scant days before Red Dead Redemption 2.

Remember when the PS3 shipped with the Spider-Man font running across its belly in an awkward mix of corporate synergy and Ken Kutaragi's typography obsession? Twelve years later, and Sony's having another go at smashing its flagship console and its beloved web slinger together in a way that makes more sense.

'Spider-Man' is my web-slinging dreams come true

Sony first revealed Marvel's Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 at E3 two years ago, but how it actually plays remained a mystery until now. At this year's show I finally got to go hands on with the PlayStation 4 exclusive. My demo was a little different than what Sony showed off at its media briefing. Rather than a frantic mission during a stormy night above and around New York City's East River, I had an hour to explore a sunny daytime chunk of Manhattan's Lower East Side, mostly as I pleased.

Last month, Sony poured cold water on the idea that its E3 press conference would be a big, blockbuster show. Instead, Sony said that we could expect more intimate, deeper-dives on games like Death Stranding, Ghosts of Tsushima, The Last of Us: Part II and Spider-Man. Sony was aiming for something close to a Revival Meeting vibe, hosting its event in a church hall with ribbons of bulbs running along the ceiling and pews for the attendees.

Were you worried that Marvel's Spider-Man would have a lightweight, no-stakes story? You can rest easy. Insomniac and Sony have posted a fresh gameplay trailer for the game, and it's clear the two want a game that puts Spidey in real peril. The clip sees virtually every one of the hero's main rivals confronting him during a prison break, including Electro, Rhino and Scorpion. And by the end... well, it doesn't look good for our champion.

Sony is once again showing its PlayStation E3 event in movie theaters, although this year there's a slight twist. The tech giant has announced that its PlayStation E3 Experience will come to certain screens in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Chile on June 11th at 9PM Eastern. Unlike in the past, though, you already have an idea of what to expect: Sony previously teased that you'd see Death Stranding, The Last of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima and Marvel's Spider-Man in addition to news from the usual round of third-party studios. You're attending more for the cinematic experience than to be bowled over by surprises, although we're hoping there are a few unexpected twists and turns.

Sony is doing something different for its E3 keynote address this year. Specifically, it'll focus on doing deep dives on a small handful first-party games, rather than unleashing a barrage of trailers. Chairman of Sony's Worldwide Studios Shawn Layden confirmed a "complete new report" for Death Stranding, in addition to more info on Ghosts of Tsushima, Spider-Man and The Last of Us: Part Two. On a new episode of the PlayStation Blogcast, Layden also said that there will be third-party games as well, in addition to indie titles.

Spider-Man swings to PlayStation 4 on September 7th this year. Of course, developer Insomniac Games' web-head adventure comes in three flavors: standard ($60), digital deluxe ($80) and collector's edition ($150). The digital deluxe and collector's edition are identical in terms of bonus features, aside from the collector's edition coming with an art book, a steelbook case, the game on a Blu-ray and a pretty cool statue. According to the PlayStation Blog, pre-ordering the digital deluxe version will net you a custom pin. Both have special cosmetic items like alternate Spider-Man suits and add-on missions. The trio of post-launch narratives will feature new villains, characters and suits as well. For a sneak peek of the game in action, check out the brand new video embedded below.

Last year, Insomniac Games got our spidey-senses tingling with the announcement of Spider-Man for PS4, and a gameplay trailer at E3 2017 amped up the buzz even more. At Sony's PlayStation Showcase event at Paris Games Week (PGW), we learned more about the characters, which will include Mary Jane Watson, villain Negative Man, Aunt May, and, intriguingly, Miles Morales. Engadget chatted with Insomniac Games' Creative Director Bryan Intihar and Community Director James Stevenson about what role those characters will have in the game.

Marvel joins Madefire's digital comic book collection

Madefire's digital comic book platform is a good way to spice up stories that you may have read countless times, but its catalog has always had a conspicuous gap: namely, there were no Marvel comics. That ends today. Madefire has added Marvel to its collection, giving you the likes of The Avengers, Black Panther and X-Men through its Android, iOS, Windows and TV apps. There's no mention of taking advantage of Madefire's pseudo-3D Motion Book format, but having access is clearly the big deal here. You don't have to switch apps when you're ready to jump from Wonder Woman to Squirrel Girl.

Doctor Otto Octavius may have been a power-mad scientist bent on world domination and the utter ruin of his nemesis, Spider-Man, but the guy had some surprisingly cogent thoughts on prosthetics development. And although mind-controlled supernumerary robotic limbs like Doc Oc's still only exist in the realm of the Marvel Universe, researchers here in reality are getting pretty darn close to creating their own. And in the near future, we'll be strapping on extra appendages whenever we need a helping hand -- or supplemental third thumb.

You probably don't think of a Disney fan expo as a go-to source for video game news, but you might need to reconsider this year. The media giant is livestreaming a Video Game Showcase starting at 4PM Eastern, and it promises better looks at Disney-themed games than you might have had in the past. The event will center around Square-Enix's elusive Kingdom Hearts III, Insomniac's take on Spider-Man and EA's much-hyped Star Wars: Battlefront II -- those first two in particular haven't had much screen time. Whether or not there are any big revelations, you'll have plenty of opportunities to tune in. Hosts Jacksepticeye and Strawburry17 are streaming the event on their respective Twitch and YouTube channels, while Disney itself is offering a live feed through the D23 website as well as its Facebook games page.

'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Is One of the Best Superhero Movies in Years Christopher Orr, The Atlantic Well folks, the time has come. The team-up between Sony and Marvel for the third different take on Spider-Man debuted this week. When Sony revealed that Insomniac games was working on a PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game set in an original universe, the specter of another game hung over the announcement -- 2004's Spider-Man 2. This movie tie-in is widely regarded as the game that perfected web swinging, as well as the title that no subsequent Spider-Man game ever lived up to. Creative director Bryan Intihar is aware of the stigma, but he doesn't seem worried. He's confident his game will make players feel like Spider-Man. His goal is more complicated. He wants players to feel like Peter Parker.

Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter ego seem to be everywhere these days. Sony showed off a lengthy gameplay sequence from the upcoming Spider-Man video game at E3 this year, and the company's reboot, Spider-Man: Homecoming, arrives in theaters this July. It's no surprise, then, that Sony Pictures has decided to hype the movie with a free "multi-platform promotional VR experience" developed by CreateVR and available on Oculus, Vive and PlayStation VR platforms June 30th.

Today, however, Amazon-owned ComiXology announced that it had finally harpooned one of the big white whales, adding select Marvel titles to its library. You'll also be able to grab several Marvel collected editions via Amazon's Prime Reading service and Kindle Unlimited.
