Though not many Americans can quite tell you why they are celebrating St. Patrick's Day or wear a bit of green. they do love an excuse to head to an Irish pub and drink a Guinness. And this year is no different with the holiday being observed anywhere from March 15 to March 17 this year. A few MMOs are getting in on the action as well. EverQuest II is celebrating all week long with their pub-crawl inspired Brew Day Festival which has in turn inspired a video parody. And Pirates of the Caribbean Online has turned the seas green as well as offering shamrock tattoos and green hair to players to customize their avatar.Even Lord of the Rings Online is slipping in its own St. Paddy's Day celebration with a quest that rewards you with a giant size keg during Spring Festival. Tapping that beast gets you so drunk, your character passes out and wakes up in another part of Middle-earth! Better in-game, than in life, eh? Finally, if Virtual Worlds are more your style, there are sure to be many player run St. Patrick Day events in Second Life. You may have missed yesterday's float parade, but you can always visit virtual Dublin any time of year. %Gallery-18489%

  • Breakfast Topic: How are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day in game?

Today is St. Patrick's Day, and I'm sure my Irish Catholic grandmother will be proud of me when I show her this Easter holiday that I've managed to write something up on this Irish celebration. In fact, pictured above is my Irish leaning main character Osullivan overlooking the green river in Chicago. My friends in Defenders of The Pass over on the Eldre'Thalas server have teased me for years with green beer, and today, I'm going to have one and salute them all. /cheers!While there isn't any official World of Warcraft holiday for St. Patty's Day, festivities are bound to be popping up everywhere. Perhaps some merry drinking, maybe a few kisses to a stone, or maybe everyone rolls a red headed female dwarven warrior and dances around a bit.Besides my real life green beer that I'll be enjoying (most likely a Budweiser Select with green dye), I'll have to saunter over to a tavern and pick up some sort of Potent Ale. I think I'll drink it right before I go off to pull Archimonde, no doubt causing everyone to yell in bewilderment over vent. What are you doing in game for this St. Patrick's Day? And if you can, share with me and tip back the ol' glass at 9:00 EST tonight!

  • Sprint re-launches LG Rumor, this time with more green

Between the Scoop and Rumor spectrums, Sprint has managed to find a color that LG's affordable text machine has yet to feature: green. The features carry over from its black and white stablemates -- yes, including the lack of EV-DO -- but the green model gets to revel in the clever St. Patrick's Day tie-in, which Sprint really plays up in its press release. Some of our favorite groaners: "Sham-rock it out with the built-in MP3 player" "Take pictures of...a Leprechaun sighting using the 1.3MP camera" "Check your stock quotes to see if you are 'in the green'" "Avoid getting pinched for not wearing green just by carrying the new Rumor by LG" Yeah, you get the idea. Get the latest Rumor shade in a box of Lucky Charms in the Sprint store of your choosing for $49.99 on a two-year contract after rebates.[Thanks, Ryan G.]

Today, St. Patrick's Day, is the one day where we mourn a great man by the name of Saint Patrick by drinking a whole bunch of green beverages. With alcoholic (or not so alcoholic) drinks in hand, we gather with friends and family to have fun, chat it up, and take it easy. And we can't think of a better day to relax and jump on Xbox Live or go over to a friend's house to play some video games. It's no coincidence that one of the Xbox 360's main colors is green, but don't you find it odd that those green TMNT just came to the XBLA? Gaming with friends on St. Patrick's Day just makes sense. But no matter what you do today to celebrate Saint Patrick and those green leprechauns, be sure to have fun and stay safe. Now ... bottoms up fanboys!
