Star Trek Online getting another expansion 'late in 2014'
Star Trek Online fans, you've got a new expansion coming your way in 2014. So says the latest STO dev blog. The entry is basically a year-end recap, and it offers up plenty of thanks for making 2013 "the best year ever for STO." It also says that "your enthusiastic support has put another expansion on the schedule for late in 2014." STO's Legacy of Romulus expansion adding Nimbus adventure zone
Cryptic is pumping out the Star Trek Online dev blogs as the game's Legacy of Romulus expansion draws near. The latest comes to us from content designer Sean "Commander Ander" McCann, and it's all about the Nimbus adventure zone. Nimbus is a crime-ridden locale currently lorded over by the Orion Syndicate. The new episode series Wasteland takes gamers all over the planet, from the run-down fugitive haven of Paradise City to a destroyed ship that doubles as an Orion stronghold to a Gorn-filled canyon that houses some sort of mysterious project. Nimbus also boasts dailies, open missions, and accolade rewards for said missions and for exploration. More details are yours at the official STO website.
Star Trek Online's Legacy of Romulus expansion coming May 21 [Updated]
All those, ahem, Cryptic hints we've been receiving about something Romulan-related making its way to Star Trek Online have finally been revealed this morning thanks to the unveiling of the game's first expansion. It's called Legacy of Romulus, and it's coming your way on May 21st. Features include the ability to play as a Romulan and captain one of the empire's fearsome Warbird-class vessels. Cryptic and Perfect World are also tweaking STO's trait system and its UI. And of course there will be plenty of new story and mission content in the offing as well. Captain's Log: Ask Cryptic raises questions about STO's future
The future of Star Trek Online comes up a lot in Captain's Log. Whether imagining cool new features or picking apart comments by Executive Producer Daniel Stahl, I ponder STO's tomorrows fairly frequently. But, hey, it's not my fault the folks at Cryptic Studios talk about the game's near and far future so much, right? Especially with their monthly Ask Cryptic feature, the developers address the game's, er, development all the time. This month's extra-hefty Ask Cryptic offers players a lot of tasty food for thought -- but a forum post I missed last week has given me indigestion.
