Fashion-forward fighters, take note: Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition's Color Pack DLC has been removed from the Xbox Live Marketplace following a statement issued by Capcom, stating that the Color Pack contains "incorrect files," and that a Color Pack containing correct files is being constructed. If you purchased the DLC before it was removed from the Marketplace, tell Capcom about it here by clicking the "Ask a Question" button and selecting "General" or "Tech Support - General" from the category drop-downs. As soon as the updated DLC is back on Live, you'll receive an email containing a code to re-download your snazzy new digs. Just don't forget to delete your old new digs before downloading your new new digs.

  • Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition review: Aged to perfection

Going into Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition, the question wasn't "Will it be any good?" so much as "Will it still be any good?" See, a lot has happened in the twelve years that've passed since Third Strike hit Japanese arcades in 1999: The fighting game scene has died and been reborn anew, and our conventional understanding of the genre has seen its own phoenix-like regeneration. Can a game that was considered nearly perfect at the peak of its relevancy still be considered as such years later? Does our crazy, modern world of Reptiles, C. Vipers and Cyclopses still need Third Strike? Yes, as it turns out, it can and it does. Like a fine wine, Third Strike has only improved with age.%Gallery-125795%

You're not tired of news about Capcom fighting games yet, are you? If so, uh... sorry. We've got some great posts just below this one, some of which aren't about fighting games. Now, for the rest of you, Capcom announced the release dates for the XBLA/PSN update of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. You'll be able to fight for the future in the online version of a past Street Fighter starting August 23, when it hits PSN. The XBLA release follows the next day. Check out a trailer above to see some of the stuff added to this version of the beloved 1999 fighter -- like GGPO-based online play, graphical filters, and challenges.

Capcom producer for all things Street Fighter, Yoshinori Ono, dropped a bomb on all of us this weekend when he revealed Capcom's intent to re-release Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike. We hypothesized that the game would be distributed digitally -- think: the recently re-released Marvel vs. Capcom 2 -- and Capcom confirmed to Eurogamer that the game is indeed a "downloadable title." No specific platforms were mentioned for the upcoming adaptation, though Xbox Live and PSN are likely safe bets right now. We'll keep you posted as we find out more.

[Fighters Generation] Capcom didn't just announce two Street Fighter games in yesterday's Comic-Con panel -- that would hardly have been worth holding a panel. Producer Yoshinori Ono also announced that the company is working on Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online, an updated re-release of the 1999 arcade/Dreamcast game. It's "not going to come out in the immediate future," Ono told the crowds already daydreaming about online Q matches, "but just let everyone know that Street Fighter 3 is coming back." He didn't have any more details, simply directing suggestions to Capcom-Unity. It seems relatively safe to assume that an online-focused fighting game is being considered at least for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, probably as a digital release like Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

  • Street Fighter IV characters go 2D, revisit the late '90s

If Street Fighter IV were made 10 years ago and lacked all those bulging 3D muscles and gorilla hands, it might look something like the images you see above. Shoryuken forum member Steamboy33 took it upon himself to draw up Street Fighter 3-esque versions of 11 different characters from SFIV, reappropriating sprites from previous SF games as a template. The adorable stature of these sprites almost has us wishing for a Smash Bros. meets mini-Capcom game, but let's be realistic -- no one wants to fight Seth ever again. Ever. %Gallery-21918%[Via iPlayWinner]

This week GameTap hadoukens the Dreamcast version of Street Fighter III: Third Strike onto the service. The game considered by many hardcore gamers as the last great 2D fighter is accessible for both PC and Mac users. The new GameTap titles this week (other than SFIII) are the remains of the year. Metal Combat (PC) - Just say no. Check out Mr. Robot. Mr. Robot (PC) - A little-known independent action RPG from a couple years ago that was well received. Check it out for something a little different. Putter Golf (Genesis) - Hardcore mini-golf. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Covert Ops Essential (PC) - Plan out the mission and repeat it a billion times 'til you don't get your whole squad killed. Classic Rainbow Six game. Sub Hunt (Intellivision) - A submarine game from 1981. Seriously. Street Fighter 3: Third Strike (Dreamcast) - We've gone over this. After the break we have GameTap's list of free games. The new free game this week is Texas Hold 'em and is bolded for easy reference. There will be no GameTap update next week due to the holiday, with the next update on Jan. 3rd.

To the many who know the fine, detailed, beyond-minutia intricacies of fighting games, SFIII: Third Strike represents the last great 2D fighter. GameTap has gotten hold of the Dreamcast version of the game, which means that both PC and Mac users will have access. For those with specialty fighting sticks, GameTap supports a wide range of controllers and there's an official list available, but many more work that aren't listed. The game will not support online play because neither did the Dreamcast version. So check out SFIII: Third Strike and join fighter aficionados everywhere in enjoying a vintage treat.
