Street Fighter Alpha 2, the second entry in Capcom's Street Fighter Alpha sub-series built for its CPS II arcade hardware, is now available for PC via GOG. For six bucks, fisticuffs enthusiasts receive the game, its soundtrack, 24 avatars and 41 pieces of related artwork.Since this is a straight port of the Windows version of the game from the late 90s, anyone plugging a PS3 or Xbox arcade stick into their USB port and hoping for built-in compatibility will be disappointed. Regardless, if PC is your fighting platform of choice and you, like many others, pine for the simpler days of the Alpha era, here you go.

It's time to show those ... animated ... cans ... who's boss. Intelligent Systems's patently odd shooting game 530 Eco Shooter arrives on WiiWare this week, aiming to fill you with terror at the sight of any preserved vegetable. For those among you who shun can combat, Street Fighter Alpha 2 is also available, in a surprisingly competent SNES port. On DSiWare, Gameloft has released Legends of Exidia, which is reportedly a port of its mobile game Might and Magic II (not to be confused with the real Might and Magic II) with all the license stuff excised. That's pretty weird. 530 Eco Shooter (WiiWare, 1 player, 1,000 Wii Points) Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) Electroplankton: Luminarrow (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Electroplankton: Sun-animalcule (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Legends of Exidia (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

Martial arts is the theme on the Virtual Console this week, as Sega and Capcom both offer up entries in their respective franchises. Unless you like to punch things, throw pointy things at things or kick things -- or maybe some kind of mixture of all that -- then you'll probably want to skip this week's downloads. Pacifists need not apply! Street Fighter Alpha 2 (SNES, 1 - 2 players, 800 Wii Points) Shinobi (VC Arcade, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Every week, we like to check out what's new on the Virtual Console. We offer these videos as a sort of taste to help you decide whether or not you would want the game in question. We also toss in our own two cents because we're pushy jerks like that.

There's some classic platforming to be had in both Rayman and Shinobi in this week's Nintendo downloads, and even a way to deal with Jack's overabundance of stress in Stop Stress: A Day of Fury. There's over ten titles in all, so cruise past the break for the full list.

  • ESRB rates Street Fighter Alpha sequels for PSN

The ESRB has rated both Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3 for PSP and PS3, meaning that both titles are more than likely coming to PSN.Hopefully, the sequels won't take the same eight-month path from ESRB rating to PSN debut like the original title did. With Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix BBQ releasing in the relative future, we'd hope that the Alpha sequels are meant to return before those titles.[Via Siliconera, 1UP]

The ESRB spills the beans yet again. The ratings board has listed Street Fighter Alpha II and III for release on the PS3 and PSP. So expect to see both games appear on the PSN Store at some point in the future. This might all be moot though, considering Street Fighter II HD is on its way "soon" and Street Fighter IV will be arriving next year. Honestly, how many different Street Fighter games do you need? If all this news of imminent Street Fighter goodness has you itching to play, you can always grab Street Fighter Alpha from the US PSN Store right now.
