Just when we thought the Trace had stolen every last bit of the older T509's thunder, it looks like Samsung and T-Mobile plan to breathe new life into the 10mm-thick candybar by... well, turning it purple. The aptly-named T509s "Plum" brings the same tri-band GSM / EDGE love as its elder sibling, but in a slightly more colorful package -- more importantly, the T509s will rock myFaves support out of the box, and it's available at the same $50 price point (after discounts and contact) as its predecessor.[Thanks, Calum B.]

We knew this phone was US bound, and while it might not have the whiz-bang aspect of their recent T509, Samsung's new T609 for T-Mobile might do the trick for a few world roaming flip enthusiasts. The 0.88-inch thick clamshell has a 1.3 megapixel camera, MP3 playback, video capture and playback and Bluetooth functionality. The phone can also do world roaming with quad-band GSM radios, and EDGE data ability. Sadly, while the camera-free yet incredibly skinny T509 is going for a mere $50, you'll have to spring $150 to get the T609.

It's quite refreshing to see so many "World's ____s" at Samsung's booth. This time we've got the World's First 10 Megapixel Cameraphone, the World's Best HSDPA Handset, and the World's First Mobile WiMAX rig. We got hands ons with their new T509 slimphone, B600 10 megapixel cameraphone, their 8GB i310, S4300 musicphone, Z540 Vodafone phone (which happens to remind one a little much of the V3x), the Z510,  D520 slim slider, Cingular's forthcoming D407, and, of course, some Samsung execs shooting the breeze about their devices.

That 0.39-inch thick SGH-T509 phone from Samsung -- the slimmest candybar phone so far announced for the US -- just got confirmed today, and should be available in the states this May. The phone features EDGE data, Bluetooth 1.2 connectivity, and a camera of undetermined resolution. Samsung actually isn't spilling much info on this phone for as hyped up about it as they are in their PR. We still know barely more than we skimmed off the FCC site in March, but it does look like this phone will be making its way to T-Mobile users. Catherine Zeta-Jones will be so proud.
