The Lego Movie Videogame achieves something of a rarity in the UK charts this week - not just keeping FIFA 14 off the top, that is. It's one of few games to achieve more sales in its second week than in its first, albeit only 7 percent more, but it's still something to build on. A price reduction helps FIFA 14 back into second, while lower down the charts Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze debuts in ninth. The Wii U game is just ahead of Rayman Legends, which sees a 300 percent rise in weekly sales on the back of PS4 and Xbox One ports. All those games beat Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 to the top ten, as the last chapter in the FF13 saga sinks from a debut third spot to 11th.

  • Lego Movie Videogame is the new UK No. 1, Lightning Returns in third

We expected Lightning Returns to take Final Fantasy back to the top in this week's UK charts, but we hadn't counted on a blockbuster start for the Lego Movie Videogame. The film debuted across the country last week, after stacking up a $69 million opening weekend in North America. Enough of that yellow fever spread from big screens to smaller screens in the UK, with 15,000 more copies sold than a discounted Call of Duty: Ghosts in second place. Last week's chart leader, FIFA 14, turfed off down to fourth. That means the final game in Lightning's saga failed to take top spot, having to settle for an apt third place. For the record, there is some symmetry here: Final Fantasy 13-2 arrived in second place back in 2012, while Final Fantasy 13 itself debuted as a No. 1 game in 2010.

The Lego Movie Videogame, the toy-turned-film-turned-game adaptation from developer Traveller's Tales, is now available, and the kids in the above trailer couldn't be more thrilled; they're getting literally blown away. Okay, so maybe they're getting a gentle breeze in their face. Still. The game about a movie about a toy is available on just about every console: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, Vita and 3DS. You may have noticed that the release date given in the trailer is February 14, which has not yet come to pass. That's because February 14 is the date for the game's European territory release. Or at least, that's what they want you to think. Notice how the controllers being held by the children in the trailer don't match any platform that the game is available on? We can only assume these people are time travelers. That or wizards. Yeah, wizards makes more sense. The Lego Movie Videogame: out now in North America and February 14 in Europe, played by child-sorcerers.

  • Lego Movie Videogame is the tie-in to end all tie-ins

Warner Bros. announced The Lego Movie Videogame this week, a video game tie-in to a movie about a toy. We're consequentially expecting the world to end when the toy-movie-video game comes out next year for just about everything - that's PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3, Vita, and 3DS if you're after specifics. The game pits players as Emmet, acted by Everwood star Chris Pratt in the film, the figurine hero of the movie who's mistakenly identified as the Master Builder capable of saving the world. Going by early screenshots, it looks like the game won't deviate far from Traveller's Tales' tried-and-tested formula of platforming, exploration, and construction. There's no news on whether or not the movie's all-star cast, including Will Arnett (as Batman), Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Will Ferrell, and Elizabeth Banks, features in the game. We'd have to say excluding Arnett in particular would be a huge mistake. %Gallery-193928%
